About

Steve Morse Band Live in Concert

Renowned guitarist Steve Morse has not only held a long stint as the guitarist for hard rock pioneers Deep Purple for an impressive 28 years as well as a brief tenure with classic rockers Kansas, but he has fronted his own eponymous Steve Morse Band since 1983, when his former band, Dixie Dregs -- an instrumental band known for their innovative mixing of rock, classical, country, and bluegrass music -- parted ways.

Since then, Morse has played in the trio in addition to performing with other legendary rockers. The Steve Morse Band's original lineup featured bassist Jerry Peek and drummer Doug Morgan. Their most recent lineup comprises Morse along with drummer Van Romaine (Blood Sweat & Tears, Kansas, Bernie Worrell) and bassist Dave LaRue (Dixie Dregs). After releasing their aptly named debut album, The Introduction, on Elektra Records in 1984, the Steve Morse Band went on to release numerous albums, including Coast to Coast on MCA in 1992 and Angelfire in 2010.

The lineup of Morse, Romaine and LaRue are reuniting in 2023 for the first time onstage together in almost a decade. Don't miss your chance to catch these legendary rockers when they perform live across the northeastern U.S. in 2023.

Steve Morse Band on Tour

Steve Morse was born in Hamilton, Ohio, in the 1950s, where he grew up listening to classical music and was later inspired by rock artists including The Beatles, Jimi Hendrix, Led Zeppelin, and the Yardbirds. Although the first instruments he played were the clarinet and the piano, he became obsessed with the guitar after he saw a performance by classical guitarist Juan Mercadal, who later became his teacher.

Widely considered a musician's guitarist, Morse honed his craft and formed his first band, the Dixie Dregs, in 1974, which went on to become a pioneer in the instrumental fusion genre. After the demise of the Dregs a decade later, Morse began the Steve Morse Band, to which he devoted his considerable talents when he wasn't busy performing with Deep Purple or doing a brief stint with Kansas.

Morse often tops musician magazines' readers' polls of best guitarists and has been recruited to perform with some of the most renowned rock bands in the business.

    The Ultimate Guitarist's Guitarist

by ChrisC on 2/28/23The Space at Westbury Theater - Westbury

Steve Morse is one of the greatest guitarist's who ever lived. Go see The Steve Morse Band, The Dixie Dregs or Flying Colors whenever they are in your area. You will not be disappointed. John Petrucci of Dream Theater was in the audience if that gives you any indication of what a show it was. John sites Steve Morse as "my Hero" and credits Steve for one of the reason's he got into playing guitar. The show was an incredible experience!

What a great show! The whole band was absolutely amazing! I have been going to see Steve Morse all the way back to The Dregs at My Father's Place in Rosslyn, New York. Always amazing. Always perfection. They did not disappoint! Steve, Dave LaRue and Van Romaine were all on point and left me contemplating whether or not to sell all of my basses and take up the Kazoo.

A true genius and underrated these days. As a musician Morse must be studied for everything from composition to technique and performance. Been seeing him and Dregs for years always blown away and always learn something new and of course always inspired to keep going playing , creating and composing

    Fantastic as always

by Rob on 2/27/23The Wilbur - Boston

I have been a fan of Steve Morse for many years, beginning with the Dixie Dregs and have seen him many times with them, the Steve Morse Band, totally solo, and with Deep Purple. He made Deep Purple better, but I prefer him with the SMB or completely solo. They were fantastic and I would recommend that anyone who loves music to go see them. You will be happy you did!
