About

THE CLAYPOOL LENNON DELIRIUM IN CONCERT:

Boundary-busting rockers The Claypool Lennon Delirium got together in 2016 and wasted little time in taking the concept of a supergroup to far-out, uncharted territory. Featuring the mind-bending bass work of Primus frontman Les Claypool and the experimental indie rock licks of guitarist Sean Lennon, the duo is a match made in bizarro heaven. Claypool's outré vocals and absurdist lyrics are as wonderfully alien as it gets, and Lennon gives their songs an angelic touch with his vocal harmonies and jazzy riffs. The band's knockout performance at Bonnaroo 2016 blew minds and left fans dying to catch more of their spacey sonic explorations and funky grooves on their upcoming US tour. The Claypool Lennon Delirium combines the unique talents and eccentric sounds of its marquee members to brilliant effect in concert, and tickets buyers lucky enough to catch the group are in for a gloriously strange treat.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Les Claypool and Sean Lennon walked considerably different paths before joining forces in The Claypool Lennon Delirium. Claypool got his start with San Francisco funk-metal outfit Primus, whose absurdist humor and virtuoso musicianship slowly but surely earned them a dedicated cult following over the past 30 years. On the other hand, Lennon was born into rock and roll royalty, the son of performance artist Yoko Ono and The Beatles' John Lennon. Starting in the '90s, Sean recorded celebrated albums both as a solo artist and with acts like Cibo Matto, Albert Hammond, Jr., and The Ghost of a Saber Tooth Tiger. The latter band was invited to open for Primus on their 2015 tour, and Lennon and Claypool hit it off instantly. When Claypool suggested that they record a space rock record, the two quickly conscripted keyboardist Money Mike (Beastie Boys) and drummer Paul Baldi (The Fungi Band) to round out The Claypool Lennon Delirium. They released their debut Monolith of Phobos in 2016 before showing off their trippy sound with an explosive set at Bonnaroo just a few days later. The festival appearance has generated serious buzz, and fans across the country are eager to witness the wonderful weirdness for themselves on the band's 2016 tour.

Claypool Lennon Delirium • Madrid Theatre, Kansas City, MO

by D. on 8/19/19Madrid Theatre - Kansas City

I had high hopes for this gig, which were largely unmet. As a long time musician and concert goer, I'd say that the fault lies primarily with local production, whether that be the venue or a contractor. From my seat (Balcony Cabaret Row 1, Seat 11) the overall sound mix for both acts was overly harsh and unnecessarily loud. Also, the lighting for the headliner's performance was atrocious, with both principals standing in the dark for much of the show. Perhaps they didn't want follow spots, but one fixture with a few lamps in front of the proscenium arch could have solved a lot. We exited before the show was over. One other thing - the steps down to the front cabaret seating in the balcony need to be better illuminated. I couldn't see the second step and fell when initially approaching our seats. On the positive side, all the house staff we encountered at the show were friendly and professional. Better luck next time.

Was a pretty descent show but in a small venue like that the artists usually mingle with the crowd afterward but these guys didn’t at all..

I enjoyed the show ,except for the poor lighting on stage and I could not hear Sean Lennons vocals . Lennon even ask for more stage light..never happened. Overall OK...Just wish the sound would have been better mixed..

Fantastic show, but way too many people let in there for the venue. Seemed way over capacity.
