THE CLAYPOOL LENNON DELIRIUM IN CONCERT:

Boundary-busting rockers The Claypool Lennon Delirium got together in 2016 and wasted little time in taking the concept of a supergroup to far-out, uncharted territory. Featuring the mind-bending bass work of Primus frontman Les Claypool and the experimental indie rock licks of guitarist Sean Lennon, the duo is a match made in bizarro heaven. Claypool's outré vocals and absurdist lyrics are as wonderfully alien as it gets, and Lennon gives their songs an angelic touch with his vocal harmonies and jazzy riffs. The band's knockout performance at Bonnaroo 2016 blew minds and left fans dying to catch more of their spacey sonic explorations and funky grooves on their upcoming US tour. The Claypool Lennon Delirium combines the unique talents and eccentric sounds of its marquee members to brilliant effect in concert, and tickets buyers lucky enough to catch the group are in for a gloriously strange treat.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Les Claypool and Sean Lennon walked considerably different paths before joining forces in The Claypool Lennon Delirium. Claypool got his start with San Francisco funk-metal outfit Primus, whose absurdist humor and virtuoso musicianship slowly but surely earned them a dedicated cult following over the past 30 years. On the other hand, Lennon was born into rock and roll royalty, the son of performance artist Yoko Ono and The Beatles' John Lennon. Starting in the '90s, Sean recorded celebrated albums both as a solo artist and with acts like Cibo Matto, Albert Hammond, Jr., and The Ghost of a Saber Tooth Tiger. The latter band was invited to open for Primus on their 2015 tour, and Lennon and Claypool hit it off instantly. When Claypool suggested that they record a space rock record, the two quickly conscripted keyboardist Money Mike (Beastie Boys) and drummer Paul Baldi (The Fungi Band) to round out The Claypool Lennon Delirium. They released their debut Monolith of Phobos in 2016 before showing off their trippy sound with an explosive set at Bonnaroo just a few days later. The festival appearance has generated serious buzz, and fans across the country are eager to witness the wonderful weirdness for themselves on the band's 2016 tour.

    Subpar. Unexciting. Unexceptional. Money grab.

    by C. L. on 4/28/19Varsity Theater - Minneapolis

This particular venue was not the most hospitable. Meet and greet started late and was rushed through. The q&a was okay. Les and Sean where pleasant enough, but seemed disconnected from a majority of the questions. Did not like the reduced time frame as my ticket purchase stated there would be a much longer event. Not being able to get personal things autographed is pretty lame. Yes the custom poster is nice but there is still nothing really personal about it. The unique VIP poster was also used for every date of the tour, so that was very disappointing. It makes the event seem like a money grab and not a chance to interact with hyper loyal fans.

Opening act (Uni) were really good. Claypool Lennon was great. Varsity theater is nice, sound is great, but sightlines on the floor are poor.

    Amazing Artists

by Stacey Hermansen on 4/28/19Varsity Theater - Minneapolis

Venue was great. Varsity Theater was intimate and easy to navigate without being overly crowded at full capacity. Management were friendly and polite and amusing at times. VIP Experience is the way to go. And couldn't have enjoyed the artists' talent more.

Claypool Lennon Delirium Was A Trip

    by C. S. on 4/26/19Delmar Hall - Saint Louis

Their music takes your brain and dances with it. If you are a Primus or John Lennon or Beatles fan, well, that's just a plus. Go see them before you can't anymore.

    A Blend of Two Talents

by W. on 4/26/19Delmar Hall - Saint Louis

Both Les Claypool and Sean Lennon exhibited their vast musical talents. A show that combined Primus with 60’s and 70’s rock and roll vibe. Well worth the time to check out this musical experience!

    Sean Rawks

by Upset on 1/3/19The Fillmore - San Francisco

The tickets cost way too much. The crowd was full but not very festive. The ambiance was decent sorta dark in theme. The opening act Beanpole was enthusiastic. Lennon was stellar impressing me with great guitar and vocals, I watched him most the show. Claypool was classic and right on with Lennon, they make a great pair. The cover songs added to the many originals played with a colorful pallet of sound. Nye itself didn't really have much meaning to me personally but I am festive and was in to it.

Les live is always an event. This show was awesome, Sean is quite a guitar player, and the keyboardist and drummer were superb.

    Great band, questionable venue

by Poindxtr on 8/15/16EXPRESS LIVE! (formerly LC Pavilion) - Columbus

The band, themselves, were dead-on. The sound quality was great and the musicians were very tight. I usually hate when Les sings through his green bullet mic, but it was loud and clear that night. It was a nice overall change of pace for Claypool. I think he and young Lennon work very well together. Anytime Paulo Baldi is behind the drumkit, you're in for a wonderfully thunderous time. My main complaint was the choice of venue. This was the second time I've seen an indoors show during the summer at the former LC Pavilion and both times were incredibly lacking in air conditioning. Years ago, a friend passed out at an indoor summer show due to the intense heat inside. No one passed out this time, but the atmosphere was identical. We walked outside to try to get away from it and there was no difference. I understand this has been a heck of a summer, heatwise, but this seemed a bit ridiculous. With the crowd being far from capacity, The Newport probably would have been better suited for this show (assuming the AC works there). The heat was a real experience-killer.

Les Claypool Never Lets You Down

by UtahgirlinCLE on 8/15/16EXPRESS LIVE! (formerly LC Pavilion) - Columbus

I have been going to Primus and /or Les Claypool configurations (Sausage, Brigade, etc.) of since their first trip to Cleveland back in 1990 I believe. Also attending numerous festivals through out the country and have never been disappointed in a show. He is creative, imaginative and a talented musician. This latest ensemble was a blast. They performed one hit (cover tunes) after the other. Sean Lennon was an added bonus (seen him in the past, GOASTT opening for Beck and as a member of Ciba Motto). He's not a very good vocalist but a decent guitarist. Great Show!

    Great duo, unusual, funky

by meonlyme on 6/15/16The Pageant - St Louis

I wouldnt have imagined these two artists would come together so well. Their very different sounds were fantastic together. Reminiscent of older psychadelic beatles sound, with the addition of Claypool's incredible musical talent. A great concert
