About

The Dead South have never been about constant reinvention, but about full commitment to their own singular way. With confidence in their sound and style and trust in each other, The Dead South arrive at the cusp of explosive global success in an enviable, and well-earned, position: total autonomy. It doesn't really matter what you call their music - progressive bluegrass, alternative Americana, country, folk and western, what matters is that this is theirs, and people from all different backgrounds, beliefs, experiences, languages and ages love it.

True blue right through, The Dead South don't shy away from ruffling traditionalists' feathers from time to time, as they flawlessly execute banjo rolls and lightning-fast mandolin tremolos, 3-part harmonies and songs of classic themes -murder ballads, disloyalty, ghosts and the like, all with a wink and a smile. As they continue their climb to the top, The Dead South have learned an important lesson: If you're going to be outsiders, you'd better be great.

Confirmed by the passion of their Dead South cosplaying fans, who go to concerts in the band's signature look, this four-piece acoustic set from the middle of the Canadian prairies have found their people. Good Company, as they call themselves, is a global community of vastly dissimilar folks who might not see eye to eye, but who stand shoulder to shoulder at the gigs.

The Dead South at TempleLive Cleveland

by Robert on 2/15/24TempleLive Cleveland Masonic - Cleveland

Only 1 line to get people inside. Much faster when they utilize the 2nd entrance. 2 opening bands before The Dead South started at 10. I prefer no opening bands, at most 1. This isn’t a knock on those bands, I was just hoping to hear more of what I paid to go see. Once they did go on it was great. They had a big set behind them of an old western town square. Very cool. The band exceeded expectations and put on a really solid show from start to finish. Just wish I got 2 sets worth instead of 1 medium/short. I like the venue. Parking is a bit steep and traffic is kinda wonky if you’re going east on the south side of the building because you have to u turn and only a couple cars were able to go each time the light turned green. I actually didn’t u turn but I turned left and just parked free on the next street over. Once in line I heard people paid $30. I imagine they had an interesting time getting out too but I wouldn’t know because I left just before the encore and was driving home before the show ended. All in all, 4/5 stars because music is most important to me and I loved The Dead South but they should go on earlier and play longer

    Great concert, OK venue

by Linda on 2/15/24TempleLive Cleveland Masonic - Cleveland

The Dead South put on an unbelievable show. Awesome music and stage & lights. The opening act, Jake Vaadeland & the Sturgeon River Boys were great. People that missed that opening act really missed out. The venue itself was pretty good. Great acoustics, but be prepared to walk up and down some very steep stairs especially if you set in front in the mezzanine. Very little leg room in the mezzanine. The staff needs training (ushers). They were allowing some people to skip the stairs and bother mezzanine people to get up numerous times to allow them through. I'm 70 and went up and down the stairs at least 4 times so when a 20 something smiles and whines "the stairs are so steep", its pretty annoying. Luckily it was the Dead South so I would put up with a lot to see that show.

    Disappointed

by Robi on 2/15/24TempleLive Cleveland Masonic - Cleveland

Arrived at 6:30 for 7:30 show - waited outside in 25degree weather for half an hour before getting inside. Show didn’t start until close to 8 with opening act who played a full set followed by 20 minute intermission. Then, ANOTHER opening act, full set, intermission. It was now past 9:30. Have no idea when or if the band I paid to hear came on because I had to leave. Should have started on time and shorter intermissions between acts. Seems the venue just wanted to drag things out so people could buy more alcohol. Will not return to this venue. What a waste.

    Great show

by Kp on 2/15/24TempleLive Cleveland Masonic - Cleveland

This show was great. If you want to feel the music, go see this show! The Dead South did not disappoint. The Hooten Hallers were amazing being a 3 person band. Both The Dead South & The Hooten Hallers rocked the venue and rocked the people. Jake Vaadeland & The Sturgeon River Boys added a throwback to real country music which I appreciated. The venue, TempleLive at Cleveland Masonic, is under restoration. I've been here before for shows and any improvement is a good improvement. It's great to see the building is not being neglected. This venue could be difficult to navigate for people with disabilities as parking by the venue is limited.

    Great show!

Awesome performance! Third time seeing them. But the bass drum was way too loud that it was hard to hear the band.

    Amazing

by Jane on 2/15/24TempleLive Cleveland Masonic - Cleveland

It was easily one of the most interesting concerts I've seen in the best way possible. Their set was amazing, their performance was flawless, and the crowd was enthralled. I already liked the band a lot, now I think I love them! The concert was top notch. They're coming closer to my home location, and I intend to see them again.

The Dead South, amazing, as always

    by Jerri on 7/31/23

First time attending an event at The Rialto, the atmosphere, venue amenities, seats, value, perfect. My husband and I loved being back in Tucson, and look forward to attending more events at this venue.

    fused back

    by Dead South on 7/28/23

I chose to NOT go - because I was told there were NO seats. No way I can stand for 10 minutes - never mind a whole concert. If that is NOT true please respond.

    Absolutely professional.. amazing musicians

    by Fan Girl on 7/28/23

The band was on spot every song.. very engaged with the audience. Would have loved the venue except for a few rude patrons who thought they had right to push people away and steamrolled their way with no regard to safety.

    Awesome

    by Ronda on 7/28/23

This was the best experience I have had in a long time. The venue was wonderful and we were able to get really close to the stage. I couldn't imagine seeing the boys in any other setting. The music was outstanding!!

    Great Venue and amazing band!!!

    by LW on 7/28/23

We already knew The Dead South was an awesome group of musicians and vocalists but we hadn't been to The Rialto Theater before. It was so much fun! We sat Upper Balcony Row II second row from the top and on the two isle seats. There's no bad seat in the house! The Dead South sounded absolutely amazing and we could clearly see the stage. We loved the experience so much we booked tickets for our second night at the Rialto and saw another show!

    So much fun!

    by Marti on 7/15/23

Dead South was fantastic! Their best oldies and a brand new one! The band was 1st class and sounded great. However, the venue has seats on the sides of the stage, where, when the band members step back on the stage a few feet, they are out of vision!! So sad! Had to have a perpetual trip to the restrooms so I could see the band from the center.

    Did not disappoint

    by Beth on 7/15/23

I have been wanting to see The Dead South for 3 years, and they were every bit as good as I had hoped. They played the best of their well-known repertoire, and they sprinkled in a few new songs to get us ready for their upcoming album release. It was a fantastic show.
