HOOTIE AND THE BLOWFISH IN CONCERT:
Few bands loom larger in the collective memory of the '90s than Hootie & the Blowfish, the unforgettably-named roots rockers behind decade classics like "Only Wanna Be with You" and "Time." Combining heartland rock and pop sensibility, the band's 1994 debut album Cracked Rear View went 16 times platinum, landing five singles on the charts and becoming the top-selling album of 1995. In 2014, the band will reunite on stage to celebrate 20 years since their landmark debut, treating fans at select tour dates to their greatest hits as well as new material from their highly anticipated reunion album.
BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:
Formed by four University of South Carolina freshmen in 1986, Hootie & the Blowfish released several demo EPs before launching to superstardom with their chart-topping 1994 debut Cracked Rear View. Singer Darius Rucker's iconic baritone became an ubiquitous presence on '90s airwaves as songs like "Let Her Cry" and "Hold My Hand" climbed the charts, eventually making the debut the top-selling album of 1995. After picking up Best New Artist at the 1996 Grammys, the quartet once again landed at No. 1 with sophomore album Fairweather Johnson, appearing on MTV Unplugged in support of the album's release. Following the 2005 release of Looking for Lucky, the group disbanded, announcing reunion shows in 2014 to the delight of fans around the world.
FANS WHO BOUGHT TICKETS SAY:
"This show was unforgettable. The band still plays with chemistry like they were still touring. They are so energetic and still sound amazing. They came out for two encores. I highly recommend this show!"
"Stage set was amazing and the Band was outstanding. Great sound and the set list was perfect. They covered a few songs like Cheap Tricks 'Surrender' (AMAZING), Doobie Brothers, and more, along with All the Blowfish's greats!"
"It was like the 90's all over again! You have got to love a band that has fun playing music."
We had a great time listening to music we loved so many years ago.
The concert was awesome!!! The parking/drop off area was dysfunctional. Handicap issues were not taken into consideration. The means of transport was an extended golf cart, took forever to arrive and too cold for this type of transportation. I could not have walked to the arena from where Uber had to drop us off.
You could tell they were having a ball. They did the best to get the crowd involved
I have been a fan for a long time but never got to see them. So glad and excited it finally happened. They enjoyed the show and you could tell, everyone in the audience did as well. One of my best concerts.
Great performance by the artists. Very poor and overpriced “VIP experience”. Will not buy again. Artists get 5 stars. The other gets half a star.
I have always wanted to see Hootie and the blowfish. Got my tickets a few hours before the show. They were simply amazing, as I expected they would be. Only wish I was going to Cancun to see them and the other bands.
This was a great concert. They played some classics and some newer stuff. Danced in the isle all night.
What an awesome show! We never saw Hootie before and always wanted to and finally got our chance.. It was absolutely above and beyond expectations! Wish we had the extra money to go to Hootiefest. Also, on our way to the show, we were pretty sure we were in traffic with their tour busses! Last, the Waffle House backdrop at the show reminded us of our first date at the Waffle House! Surreal experience!
The chaos began as soon as we went through security. Had the VIP Package and was pulled out of one line to be sent in 4 different directions. Every staff member stated they weren't told anything or they didn't know where we were supposed to be. Early admissions was a waste of money. Once we got inside, there was a very small table with merchandise to purchase and the food and drink vendors were setting up while we were waiting. They were allowed entry at the same time as us. We stood in the middle of the floor of an small area for over 30 minutes with no explanation or answers. The concert was amazing, thank God! I will stick to Atlanta and Charlotte from now on for concert locations. This was very disappointing and misleading.
It was a great time. PNC Arena is one of the best venues I've visited.
