HOOTIE AND THE BLOWFISH IN CONCERT:
Few bands loom larger in the collective memory of the '90s than Hootie & the Blowfish, the unforgettably-named roots rockers behind decade classics like "Only Wanna Be with You" and "Time." Combining heartland rock and pop sensibility, the band's 1994 debut album Cracked Rear View went 16 times platinum, landing five singles on the charts and becoming the top-selling album of 1995. In 2014, the band will reunite on stage to celebrate 20 years since their landmark debut, treating fans at select tour dates to their greatest hits as well as new material from their highly anticipated reunion album.
BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:
Formed by four University of South Carolina freshmen in 1986, Hootie & the Blowfish released several demo EPs before launching to superstardom with their chart-topping 1994 debut Cracked Rear View. Singer Darius Rucker's iconic baritone became an ubiquitous presence on '90s airwaves as songs like "Let Her Cry" and "Hold My Hand" climbed the charts, eventually making the debut the top-selling album of 1995. After picking up Best New Artist at the 1996 Grammys, the quartet once again landed at No. 1 with sophomore album Fairweather Johnson, appearing on MTV Unplugged in support of the album's release. Following the 2005 release of Looking for Lucky, the group disbanded, announcing reunion shows in 2014 to the delight of fans around the world.
FANS WHO BOUGHT TICKETS SAY:
"This show was unforgettable. The band still plays with chemistry like they were still touring. They are so energetic and still sound amazing. They came out for two encores. I highly recommend this show!"
"Stage set was amazing and the Band was outstanding. Great sound and the set list was perfect. They covered a few songs like Cheap Tricks 'Surrender' (AMAZING), Doobie Brothers, and more, along with All the Blowfish's greats!"
"It was like the 90's all over again! You have got to love a band that has fun playing music."
Excellent live performance!!! Loved it!!!! It was even better than I expected! Have Hootie come back soon!!!
Enjoyed the show. Well worth it would love to see them again
Good music and good crowd! Enjoyed the musicality and the solid hits of Hootie and the blowfish!
Awesome concert! Music and company were the best! Love PNC arena for concerts and Wolfpack basketball!!
Absolutely amazing!! I was not an over the top Hootie fan but like some of the songs. I went with a friend after winning tickets … and you talk about being blown away!! I have a new found love for the band and its music. Would definitely pay to see again.
The concert was great. The floor VIP tickets should of had a roped off section. There was a ton of floor tickets sold to the point that it pretty much negated buying the VIP ticket. I bought the VIP ticket that didn't have the back stage tour.
Best concert we’ve ever been to. Arena was nice and clean. Parking was good.
Taking an Uber to PNC Arena on February 17, 2023 for a concert was easy but trying to get an Uber back home was a nightmare. After the concert, there were at least 75 or more concert goers advised by PNC Arena staff to walk to a parking lot that was close to the fairgrounds to request an Uber. We all ended up in a dark, muddy area on a dirt road with no directional signs (including street signs), not to mention it was late at night, windy and freezing. It was extremely difficult to contact an Uber and in all fairness to Uber drivers, I don't think they could pinpoint our location either. It was a horrible experience. PNC Arena should support guests choosing to RideShare by providing a convenient and safe pick-up location.
The drop off location for UBERS was ridiculous. It was way to far away and will discourage people that are drinking from taking an Uber. It was well over 1/2 mile away. Also, why do they have to keep the caps off of water bottles. There were drinks spilled everywhere around us be because they were keeping the caps. The concert itself was great!
I could not wait for this night to happen. We drove up from Greenville, SC. I'm just as old as the guys in the band and have followed them on their amazing journey. They sounded great, they jamed out like they were at a college bar and looked like they were having more fun then the sold-out arena. But they didn't my whole section was on our feet from first song till after the encore. THE BOYS FROM CAROLINA KILLED IT. Thank you Darius, Mark, Dean, and Jim.
Always an amazing concert from Hootie and the Blowfish! They seem to get better as time goes on! Hope to see the many more times
Comp tickets from radio station-3rd level-instead I worked the show back stage-Darius has a lot of Raleigh conections
Biggest complaint! 2 Jack and Cokes were $95 dollars ! If it hadn’t of already been poured would never pay that kind of price . Alcohol is way more expensive at PNC than any venue I’ve ever attended.
I think Hootie did great-they sang their songs, Darius' songs and some other artist's songs. Everyone was nice-parking, doormen, merchandise people and seat people. The only thing I would suggest is this-I was in Section 104 and in between the outer walking area and the section I was in there were lots of bars. I would suggest maybe having a merchandise area in there as well.
I love Hootie and the Blow Fish. PNC Arena is a great venue for concerts. We had wonderful seats. As usual the band did not disappoint.
This concert was AMAZING! You cannot beat the voice of Darius Rucker and the band was terrific. Whoever their sound tech deserves a raise. I've been to concerts were the sound was garbled and ruined the show, but not this one. You could hear every lyric clearly - it was great. Mark Bryan was on fire with lead guitar!!
Hootie and the Blowfish never disappoint!! The show was excellent.
Hootie was everything I remember of them in the 80’s-high energy, awesome vocals, and great tunes. We had a blast!
Such a great show. They played for a long time and did a good mix of new, old and cover songs. Warm up band however wasn’t very good.
HOOTIE & THE BLOWFISH was a great show! Music was great, intimate conversation with crowd was fun and they looked like they had a lot of fun. Hope they play again soon in the Carolinas.
