Great performance - poor sound quality

by jambro on 1/20/24Harrah's Cherokee Center - Asheville - Asheville

Capathia, her singers and the ASO gave wonderful performances, very dynamic and professional. The problem for me was with the audio mixing and amplification. When both the orchestra and Capathia reached crescendos, the sound became muddled, distorted and way too loud blasting out from a large pair of speakers high above the stage. At times her voice was buried by the overpowering orchestra. This is not an orchestra problem. It is a mixing board problem. This was uncomfortable for me and destroyed what could have been great moments in the performance. When she sang quieter songs with more gentle accompaniment you could really appreciate the complexity and beauty of her voice. I just wish there had been more of those moments. I am not used to hearing an orchestra heavily amplified, if at all. Is it assumed that we all suffer hearing loss?

    A Wonderful Evening

by Ginger on 1/4/24Harrah's Cherokee Center - Asheville - Asheville

The Asheville Symphony was a pure delight at the NYE She's Got Soul event. They were professional, played a variety of songs and just treated us to a most amazing evening. I can't wait to support again in the future.

A fun way to adieu to '23

by JerryAVL on 1/3/24Harrah's Cherokee Center - Asheville - Asheville

Lucky to get a pair of seats on aisle left of the mix table so what we heard was what it was...👍 It's fun to watch and hear the symphony 'let its' hair down' and play something 'not so serious' seriously....noticed the 2nd violinist was obviously 'into' what she got to play, which is as enjoyable as listening to everyone have some fun.... The 'Alt' Series needs to be continued, as we attended the Star Wars event at the Salvage Station as well, which the audience begins to be part of the show. And that's part of the show that's hard to imagine going on with the regular events.... ;) More please! ...and Happy New Year to all... Jerry

What a wonderful evening, great music and it was over by 10, plenty to time to get home before the ball dropped.

    Good, but not great

by KevinC80 on 1/3/24Harrah's Cherokee Center - Asheville - Asheville

The New Years Eve performance of She's Got Soul was not nearly as good as the New Year's Eve 2022 performance of 007 songs. This show was mostly disco, not soul. Hard to believe you can have a show called "She's Got Soul", and not do an Aretha Franklin song or two. Micheal Jackson's "Thriller"is a great song, but you can't honestly call it "soul music". Hopefully they'll choose a better theme for New Year's Eve 2024.

A wonderful way to ring in the new year!

by Carol on 1/3/24Harrah's Cherokee Center - Asheville - Asheville

Table seating next to the stage was worth the extra money. The wine and charcuterie board was included with a large variety of cheese. The tables and decor were festive. Capathia Jenkins was incredible. Every song she sang sounded like the original artist.

    Great Potential

by Bill on 5/23/23Harrah's Cherokee Center - Asheville - Asheville

However, the audio level of Bella Fleck’s banjo was too low for me to appreciate his fine skills. That was disappointing, especially when he did the solo finale.

    First half was awesome

by WestieLover on 2/21/23Harrah's Cherokee Center - Asheville - Asheville

The pianist was fantastic. The music choices were great. Downside was there was no leg room at all. It was very very tight and the seats were so uncomfortable (top back bleacher section) that one of our party has had severe back pain since. It would be nice if they would update the venue.
