Utah Jazz History
The Utah Jazz joined the NBA in 1974 as an expansion franchise in New Orleans. They quickly traded for a local favorite, point guard "Pistol" Pete Maravich, who went to college at Louisiana State. Maravich had an entertaining style of playing and won the NBA scoring title in the 1976–77 season.
Logistical issues plagued the team in New Orleans, where the franchise spent only five years, never finishing with a winning record. The Jazz moved to Utah for the 1979–80 season, and they qualified for the playoffs for the first time in 1983–84.
The season after their first playoff berth, the Jazz selected point guard John Stockton with the No. 16 pick in the NBA Draft. The following year, they selected forward Karl Malone with the No. 13 pick. They became one of the best duos in NBA history and anchored the most successful period in franchise history.
The Jazz qualified for the playoffs in 20 consecutive seasons and won 50 or more regular season games in 11 of those seasons. Malone won the NBA MVP Award twice, in 1997 and 1999, and Stockton broke Magic Johnson's career assist record in 1995. He finished his career with 15,806 assists, a record that still stands.
The Jazz advanced to the NBA Finals in back-to-back seasons in 1996–97 and 1997–98, but they faced Michael Jordan and the Chicago Bulls both times. The Bulls beat them in six games each year. Utah has not been back to the finals since, but they’ve maintained a consistent level of success. They have missed the playoffs just nine times in the last 35 years.

Utah Jazz at Delta Center
Delta Center (formerly Vivint Arena) has gone through several different names, but it has been the home of the Utah Jazz since it opened in 1991. The arena has hosted several notable events, including the U.S. Figure Skating Championships and the 2002 Winter Olympics.
The exterior of the arena features statues of point guard John Stockton and forward Karl Malone, who are widely considered the two best players in Jazz franchise history. Stockton spent his entire 19-year career in Utah, while Malone spent 18 years with the Jazz.

Great game. The Jazz had me worried for awhile but they pulled it out.
Super Good time -- from Grandpa -- to my daughter, her husband, and my two grandkids 8 and 11. Everyone had just the best time ever!!!!!
Seats were great, love the arena. The Jazz were short their number 1, 2 and three point guards, so the game was a little out of rhythm. Still, they won and we had a great time.
I enjoyed actually everything in the show. I love the junior kids playing!
Great event. A lot of fun. I appreciated the Gateway offering low parking prices for the event. We won!
First time at a Jazz game and it was a great one! I go to games all the time back home in SoCal. However, the energy in the arena was more than I’ve experienced in a long time! Crowd was great and so was the arena. The building still holds up after all these years and looks great! Wife had a blast! Definitely recommended!
Exciting game.... Beautiful venue...... Great outcome..... Nothing else need said
Tickets were affordable for amazing seats. My family had a great time. The time out activities were really fun for the kids too.
Always have a blast at Jazz games. Venue is great, games are great. Place was packed, even for summer league
Jazz are looking good. Excited to see how the new guys will fit it. Hopefully, the front office will do everything they can to keep the team intact from last year. Happy for Raul, Derrick and Daunte for extending their contracts.
Was way fun to watch the rookies. And too also see some of the Jazz players there
Great game! Really enjoy the new renovations throughout the arena! Had a great time and fun experience with my friend!
Great event! Great game, great new City court! Had a great time and had great company with my best friend and his wife.
Tickets did not work. I spent an hour at guest services. They finally let me in the game. Horrible experience.
Vivint Arena is an incredible playoff experience! I had lower bowl seats in section 17 and they were PERFECT for seeing the whole action of the game!
I had the best time ever watching the Utah jazz first playoff game this season the crowd was electric. The food was delicious and the staff and seating was perfection. Thank you Ticketmaster for making the ticket buying experience the much easier.
The Jazz playoff game was So much fun. The atmosphere was unbelievable.
Let’s start off by saying that I am a Jazz and Warriors fan and we drove 10 hours from Montana to see this game. The Jazz played excellent...they tried and they kicked butt 117 to 79. The bad part was that the Warriors didn’t care one bit if they won or lost. They moped around the court and didn’t try very hard at all! They both landed playoff spots so this game wasn’t going to change anything but the Jazz still gave a great show but the Warriors...what a disappointment. Glad I had the cheap seats because it was a bit of a waste of money. The only redeeming thing was that I had two of my daughters with me, so we just tried to enjoy doing something that we don’t do very often and have a good time.
Exciting and electrifying atmosphere! Great times.
