New York Mets History
The New York Mets arrived in 1962 as one of the National League's first expansion teams of the 20th century. Winners of five National League Pennants and six NL East division titles, “The Amazin' Mets” have earned their nickname thanks to a pair of unforgettable postseason runs leading to the team’s two World Series titles. The 1969 “Miracle Mets” reversed the team’s previous poor performances in the early years with an unlikely World Series debut and win, while the 1986 squad won the team’s second title in a thrilling Fall Classic against the Boston Red Sox.
The Mets have had 17 Hall of Famers play for the franchise, including Casey Stengel, Nolan Ryan, Willie Mays, Tom Seaver, Gary Carter and Mike Piazza. The team has drafted six Rookie of the Year winners, including Seaver in 1967, Darryl Strawberry in 1983, Dwight Gooden in 1984 and Jacob deGrom in 2014. Seaver also won the Cy Young Award three times, in 1969, 1973 and 1975.

New York Mets at Citi Field
Since 2009, the Mets have played at Citi Field in Flushing, New York, a quick train ride to Queens from Manhattan. The team relocated from the neighboring Shea Stadium, which opened in 1964 next to the site of that year's New York World's Fair. The exterior of Citi Field evokes Ebbets Field, the old home of the Brooklyn Dodgers, while the interior includes a fan-favorite piece of Mets history in the form of Shea Stadium’s Home Run Apple, which rises and lights up in center field after every Mets’ home run. Citi Field hosted the MLB All-Star Game in 2013 and its first World Series in 2015.
