About

Pink Martini on Tour

A massive collective with a rotating membership that's been active since the early 1990s, Pink Martini are a little orchestra that knows no stylistic bounds. Playing classical and jazz, Latin and pop, what threads their performances together is a lighthearted, jazzy vibe that basically demands you move along with it. Pink Martini have performed with over 50 orchestras in cities around the world, from the Los Angeles Philharmonic and the San Francisco Symphony to the BBC Concert Orchestra. Their first live breakthrough came at the Cannes Film Festival in 1997, while their orchestral debut came in 1998 with the Oregon Symphony. The ensemble played several New Year's Eve concerts at L.A.'s Walt Disney Concert Hall across the 2000s and early 2010s, and they've performed multiple sold-out concerts at New York's Carnegie Hall. Their live performance at the Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall in Portland, Oregon, was aired live on NPR and eventually released in 2009 as a live CD/DVD called Discover the World. The group have also graced late-night talk show stages, including Conan O'Brien, David Letterman and The Tonight Show with Jay Leno.

Pink Martini in Concert

Started by pianist Thomas Lauderdale in Portland, Oregon, in 1994 as an alternative to the event-based ensembles he'd grown tired of playing in, Pink Martini quickly attracted hugely talented musicians like China Forbes and Storm Large. Their first album, Sympathique, charted in Belgium, France and Switzerland and was certified gold in Greece, while the album's eponymous single was nominated for Song of the Year at France's Victoires de la Musique awards. Pink Martini's 2004 sophomore album, Hang On Little Tomato, charted at No. 25 on the U.S. Billboard 200, and went 2x platinum in France, also earning gold status in Canada, Germany and Greece. The group has released numerous lauded albums since, including their hugely popular A Retrospective in 2011, which contained 21 tracks from their career and charted at No. 7 on U.S. Billboard's Top Jazz Albums.

    Epic

    by John H on 8/1/23

Amazing performances starting with the warm-up band Devil’s Pilgrims then a solid 2 hour performance by Pink Martini. One of the rare groups who puts their entire heart and soul into their performance, allowing the audience to not only hear, but tangibly feel the timeless music they are so renowned for. A emotional roller coaster of sounds and words which will touch you to the core. Five stars plus more!!!

    An eclectic treat

    by Judge on 8/1/23

This is the fifth time we have seen Pink Martini. Usually it is in the Coachella Valley where we live. However, we like them so much, we traveled all the way to San Diego for this performance. Even though most of the songs are not in English, you can't hear this type of rhythm and music anywhere else. That's why we love it.

Great group of very talented musicians

    by Fritz on 8/1/23

Pink Martini, you know them already! Everyone of them is a stand out soloist performer. Their repertoire is full spectrum eclectic. Lots of dancing in the isles at Humphry's. We loved the show.

    Fun

    by Jerdaddy on 8/1/23

Last time at Humphreys was over 15 years ago..(moved) the venue still the same, "comfortable "staff was very friendly . I had issue with tickets but the tix office took care of it quickly. Only issue was sound. Could use speakers in the back to give surround sound.

Wonderful musicianship, delivered with flair and joie de vivre. They have a lovely connection with their loyal audience. They consistently deliver one of the best live performance around. Congratulations to China Forbes, the 2022 Ella Fitzgerald award winner at the International Montreal Jazz Festival.

    Fabulous

by Grannyannie on 4/2/23Pantages Theatre - Minneapolis

My favorite group Pink Martini finally made it to Minneapolis after postponing their May 2022 concert due to Covid. The concert was beyond terrific. They are such a versatile group led by Thomas Lauderdale and featuring vocalist China Forbes. BEST CONCERT EVER.!

Wonderful evening with great music. Something for everyone!

    A great variety of instruments

by Rivergirl on 3/29/23Hoyt Sherman Place - Des Moines

The music couldn’t be faulted for instruments used! Violin, bass, guitars, horns, piano, etc. However, we personally felt listening to so many songs with lyrics sung in foreign languages we couldn’t understand was less enjoyable. Only a few songs had lyrics sung in English.

    Phenomenal Experience!

by ShariHW on 3/29/23Hoyt Sherman Place - Des Moines

Superior instrumentally and vocally, they presented an original and creative performance unlike any other group. From the first note to the last, we were dancing in our seats, singing along, laughing, and even learning. If you attend their show and don’t do the same, you’re either asleep or dead. Every single artist in this group has mastered their instrument to the degree of absolute perfection. We enjoyed every minute and look forward to their next show in Des Moines.

    Another Awesome Performance

by City Sue on 2/14/23Duke Energy Center for the Arts - Mahaffey Theater - St Petersburg

Third time we saw Pink Martini in 13 months! We've had to travel out of town for each show...but so worth it. We have become somewhat like groupies!. They played all our favorites. Taking requests for the second half was something new for us but enjoyed the dialogue between Thomas and China. We also witnessed a proposal ...which was a first. And Jimmy's voice brings me to tears. The Mahaffey Theater is the perfect venue for their performance. All the seats have great viewing and the acoustics are perfect.
