    A really fun concert

by 80s kid on 5/19/23House of Blues Dallas - Dallas

This is re: the Violent Femmes concert on 5/16/2023 at the House of Blues in Dallas. It was one of the more entertaining shows I have seen in at least the last year. After the opening act, the Femmes began their performance at 9pm sharp. They just barreled right into the first track from their debut album and went through follow up songs for a bit before stopping or saying anything else to the audience. If you love this album, it was great to hear them performing it in person. The songs are so fun and thoughtful and touch on some familiar pain points of growing up, love and attraction, loneliness, etc. but with self-awareness. It seems like every time the lyrics move toward a direction of despondency or self-pity, they throw in some humorous asides or venting outbursts that remind us they are not being overly dramatic or taking themselves too seriously. I had never seen them in concert before, and it was pretty surprising what they can do with only a few instruments (for some songs, they brought on a few extra performers for extra sound). Technically, their music sounded great and they were sharp and true. Highly recommended to see this band for a fun night out, and if you love the first album, even greater.

    They've still got it!

by ALG on 10/30/229:30 CLUB - Washington

Such a fun show, they still have so much talent and it was a blast to sign and dance along. 930 club is also a great venue, not too large, nice bars and other amenities.

    Fantastic evening

by 50 year old punk on 10/29/22

First, the venue is spectacular for any music, but the Violent Femmes brought it to life. A full play list of great songs. Surprised I not horse this morning from singing every song. Definitely one of the best shows I have been to. Tickets were an anniversary gift from my lovely wife, so her company made it the most special evening for me.

    I love American Music...baby

by JBB on 10/27/229:30 CLUB - Washington

I last saw the Violent Femmes live about 15 years ago at Bratfest in Sheboygan, Wisconsin. It was epic--the occasion, the drummer playing a song with bratwurst on his drumsticks, etc. I'm happy to report that they sounded every bit as good at this show as they did years ago. A few line-up changes didn't harm the magic; the current drummer may not have used brats, but he did include a barbeque (grill) in his drum kit and rocked it. The guys on horns and sax added depth and Gordon made sure folk met punk in the middle with his banjo and fiddle. The only reason I didn't give the show 5 stars is because I don't love it when bands clump all of their biggest hits together in a cluster near the end. I'm so glad I didn't miss the show this time around. Proud Wisconsin boy, here.

    Great show

    by Coffdogg71 on 10/27/229:30 CLUB - Washington

The music was excellent and The Violent Femmes put on a great show. The show was sold out and packed. Since it is a small venue it would have been nice if they had it cooler in there.

    Violent Femms

by RUNDCM on 10/27/229:30 CLUB - Washington

Not sure what to make of the first band; however, respect goes out to those established bands who reach out to lesser known\starting bands. The Femmes sounded fantastic! The 9:30 club is a great venue. Soo glad they didn’t go under from pandemic 😷. If you saw the femmes in the 80’ or early 90’s you’d think you were transported via wormhole to their recent show.

    Got the weirdest feeling

by Let Early on 10/26/229:30 CLUB - Washington

The music was great and I'll always love the Violent Femmes, but I will never go see them live in concert again. I felt like I was surrounded by proud boys, Capitol rioters, and election deniers. Plaid flannel, and unsmiling white men with crossed arms were everywhere. There were like 20 children in the balcony. It was cultish. We felt so uncomfortable that we left about half way through the concert. Not sure what happened, guess I'm not on the right social sites, but something is up with VF crowds these days. Hope someone is paying attention...

Band was great, but too crowded and sound was low

by KMLY on 10/20/22Paradise Rock Club presented by Citizens - Boston

There were way too many people in the venue to really enjoy the band. I couldn't find a single spot in the venue where I could actually see the band and not be squished in a crowd. The sound was really low. I even walked around both floor to see if the sound downstairs was worth the crowd but it was not.

    Excellent!

by Yolande on 10/18/22Paradise Rock Club presented by Citizens - Boston

I travelled from Cayman Islands to Boston to see one of my all time favorite bands, Violent Femmes. Originally from South Africa, Femmes were part of many good memories! The Paradise venue was perfect for an intimate concert! The acoustics were spot on. Femmes you were awesome!!! Keep it up - I saw a range of ages at the recent concert which was great to see the younger generation appreciating your talents!!

by SerendipityCreator on 10/7/22Thalia Hall - Chicago

Great venue, great show. Hadn't heard of the opening band Las Cafeteras, but they were a blast. And Gordon Gano's voice is still as awesome as ever.

    Still the femmes….

by Louieee13 on 10/6/22The Pageant - St Louis

…..but not the same energy. Their opening band had 1000 energy. Hard to follow that.
