    Powerful Story, Memorable Event

by Craig on 2/8/24Chrysler Hall - Norfolk

I had a fantastic time at this show, which told a story that is just as relevant today as it was many years ago when the play took place. The acting and writing was incredible, and I found myself, laughing, feeling furious, and getting watery eyes all throughout the performance. As a fan of the book and the movie, I feared that the play would be a disappointment, but it was such a powerful and sobering retelling of a classic story. The entire cast deserves praise, but Richard Thomas as Atticus Finch, Yaegel T. Welch as Tom Robinson, Jacquelyn Williams as Calpurnia, Ted Koch as Bob Ewell, and Scout Backus and Justin Mark as Scout and Jem, respectively...all met the moment with emotionally honest and riveting performances. It was a long show, packed full of content, but it never dragged or seemed monotonous. I would highly recommend this show experience to anyone who is looking for an epic and remarkable time at the theater. I am so happy that this show tour came to my area. Thanks to everyone who had a hand in staging and producing this outstanding rendition of an American literary classic.

    A Rush of Various Emotions

by Jean on 2/8/24Chrysler Hall - Norfolk

This was one of the most self involving plays I have ever attended. The play was one of the best I have seen. I cannot praise the actors enough. All actors performed like they were really the character they portrayed. All actors appeared to put 100% of their talent into the performance to make sure everyone enjoyed their performance. The scenery was fantastic and creatively used. This play and how it was presented stirred many emotions - amusement to embarrassment. I loved taking a look at the old south yet at the same time I felt embarrassed and sorrow. I was surprised at some of my reactions and feelings to parts of the play. As an older person I can relate to the entire play. I left the play feeling proud of myself and my growth, and surprised at the same time. Words heard as a child now offered me, embarrassed by the actions of some and proud of others. This is a play that should be shown more. Thank everyone involved in this production for allowing me to see you perform and witness true artists. You are the best!

Play was phenomenal; venue is terrible

by DawnKeck on 2/8/24Chrysler Hall - Norfolk

The performance was incredible. I did find some of the added content from Aaron Sorkin a bit preachy and long-winded, but I still enjoyed it. The Chrysler Hall sound system is terrible, and hearing dialogue in the balcony is always an issue — especially when the audience is laughing and the actors continue to speak. There are always several people coughing as well, and around us, people were eating and opening candy wrappers. The venue is always very hot as well, and the lines for the women’s bathrooms are ridiculously long. In conclusion, it would’ve been amazing to watch on television, I suppose.

    Poor service from Ticketmaster

by Unhappy customer on 2/8/24Chrysler Hall - Norfolk

I purchased orchestra tickets for Sunday’s performance and was instructed to get to the theater early for a 2pm matinee by Ticketmaster. That was incorrect information as the play started at 1pm on Sunday we had to be seated in the balcony for the first half of the play and then had to sit in chairs as our tickets had been given to someone else. I can not recommend your service to anyone going forward nor will I use your service again. The performance was excellent but the experience was marred by your ineptitude.

    Best show yet!

by Renee on 2/8/24Chrysler Hall - Norfolk

This is the best performance my husband and I have seen in years. It was well done, the use of characters to lead the audience into the next screen was well thought out and set the stage nicely for anyone who had never read the book. Excellent performance by all the cast. And of course Richard Thomas was exceptional.

    Spellbinding Show

by Pudding on 2/7/24Chrysler Hall - Norfolk

Although I read the book years ago and have seen at least one other stage performance, I was spellbound by this show. The actors/actresses were excellent and made the whole experience magical for me. I was sitting on the edge of my seat and although I new the storyline in advance, I just couldn't wait for the next scene. Needless to say, I really enjoyed the show. In addition, in these days and times when so many people find it acceptable to express prejudices and hatred, we need a reminder of the history of America and a reason to keep trying to make this a better union.

    Outstanding Performance, Poor Seating

by Jeff G on 2/7/24Chrysler Hall - Norfolk

The performance was truly outstanding, but the seating in row AA Left Orchestra was much too crowded and uncomfortable. I have been to many performances there at Chrysler Hall, but I have never experienced the uncomfortable seating as this night. Your seats were much too close together. I realize the play was sold out, but very uncomfortable to accommodate the Orchestra tight seat placement.

    Justice Deniec

by Cat on 2/7/24Chrysler Hall - Norfolk

A moving story of another Black man unjustly murdered at the hands of poor, illiterate white vigilantes. Beautiful performances by all but outstanding performances by Richard Thomas as Atticus Finch and Yaegel Welch Aston Robinson. A precursor to Emmitt Till

    Amazing

by Jfort on 2/7/24Chrysler Hall - Norfolk

Honestly, I went to this specifically because I wanted to see Richard Thomas. He was incredible and so was the rest of the cast. All of the other reviews were right: it is unexpectedly funny, everything flowed very smoothly, the play was true to the book but I felt like there was intention in making it for today, and, the only negative I have, Scout was hard to understand, especially the opening monologue. Very well done, everything I could’ve hoped for and more, absolute must-see.

Awesome show but uncomfortably hot in balcony

by Lisay on 2/7/24Chrysler Hall - Norfolk

Incredible performance! Was on the edge of my seat!!! However-it’s was uncomfortably HOT in the packed balcony. I had a good view but the temps were unbearable even though I was wearing a thin dress and sitting on my coat. Even as we were filing out, guests were still fanning themselves. Note: Playbills are not fans

    Sound check issue

by Jo on 2/7/24Chrysler Hall - Norfolk

Loved the play. Unfortunately, I couldn’t hear much of the dialogue. I do not have hearing problems. It just wasn’t set for the level of the venue.

    Great show, great cast

by Casper on 2/7/24Chrysler Hall - Norfolk

I enjoyed the play's treatment of a very serious subject, just enough humor interspersed throughout. The cast and the sets were great. The only "other"is that somebody's cell phone went off for about 20 seconds during Atticus Finch's closing argument in defense of Tom Robinson. Highly recommend this play. Of course, after the standing ovation somebody had to yell "good night, John Boy"

    Outstanding Rendition

by Glenn on 2/6/24Chrysler Hall - Norfolk

The Aaron Sorkin updated take on this quintessential book was outstanding. All actors/ actresses performed T the pinnacle of excellence lead by Richard Thomas as Atticus Finch.
