    Needs improvement

by Montoya123 on 8/15/18Manhattan Center Hammerstein Ballroom - New York

For the cost my kids and I were expecting much more. They thought they would see some known games. We thought they would be able to go on stage and take turns battling (on a Smash Bros game for example) other players on the big screen. The second floor had a lot of games but it was so crammed and tight that there was hardly any walking room. They should have spaced them out more or moved half of them to the third floor or the basement area. Also at a gaming site like this they really need to have a charging station. I couldn’t believe there was not one spot to be able to charge my phone as I waited for my kids. There should’ve also been cool giveaways and more selling of games and merchandise.

Great Event - only tiny issues with venue

by jedirogue on 8/15/18Manhattan Center Hammerstein Ballroom - New York

The event itself was great. The second floor was a little crowded and there were some games on the sides and on the third floor that were harder to find but overall a great show and an improvement over last year. The central location was also useful. I really enjoyed that the show ran until 8pm. The downsides were the booking with ticket master over eventbrite (Ticketmaster has huge fees, is harder to use, and harder to pull up tickets with) and the venue's overly strict rules about outside food and drink. Seriously let me walk in with a bottle of water! Hydration is very important. I also would have liked to know earlier if I was going to qualify for a dev badge as I needed to know what the deal was to buy tickets. I'd have bought less expensive tickets earlier if I knew if I was going to be accepted as a dev, what the dev pass included, and how much it was going to be.

It was nice but hard to navigate

by SuperVader on 8/14/18Manhattan Center Hammerstein Ballroom - New York

The vendors booths in the upper tier floors were difficult to approach as there was little room to cross from vendor to vendor as people were busy testing/ playing the products. I wasn't able to try out many booths due to the lack of walking room.

    Still growing into its shoes

by LarkSS on 8/14/18Manhattan Center Hammerstein Ballroom - New York

Pros - Brings a great community of people together for a single purpose - Great recognition for devoted indie developers - Overall friendly crowd - Every booth is "playable" - More than just digital games - Food/drink on site - Large sitting area Cons - Entrance is vague and uninviting - Lots of security yet effortless to get in (in a bad way) - Lack of signs to help navigate the ballroom among the crowd - No way to preview booths from a glance on upper floors - No on-site you-are-here maps to help pinpoint particular booths - Upper floor booths are squashed together in sets of three - No quality enforcement lead to a few awkward or embarrassing displays - Food/drink is more expensive than at Six Flags (including water) - More than 80% of the seating area was unused at any time; could have been booth space

So much fun talking to devs 1-on-1. Will be buying many of the games I saw and played.

    Facinating

by Beckermultimedia on 8/14/18Manhattan Center Hammerstein Ballroom - New York

I spent a total of eight hours over two days talking to developers about their games, trying them out, watching others play. It was enlightening. The venue is good.

    PLAY NYC

by acesjg81 on 8/14/18Manhattan Center Hammerstein Ballroom - New York

I liked that a lot of developers still kept 8bit gaming alive and created some fun games. Meanwhile what I liked the most was Kung Fu Kickball and Dunk Lords. They were hella fun.
