Writer/Director/Producer Je’Caryous Johnson who brought you the sold out hit play, “Married But Single” and the hilarious romantic comedy, “Two Can Play That Game” is back with another one – Je’Caryous Johnson presents SET IT OFF based on the hit iconic movie by the same name. Fans will get to relive the ride that made them love SET IT OFF the movie, but this time around they will experience it LIVE ON STAGE.
The hit heist, cult classic movie you love is now a stage play and coming to your city. The same iconic characters – Frankie, Tisean (T.T.), Stoney and Cleo are back bringing the same action packed, adrenaline filled robbery scenes and emotionally charged antics against an equally exciting music soundtrack that will have you on the edge of your seat. Multi–platinum selling rapper DA BRAT will be starring as Cleopatra “CLEO” Sims, the role originally played by Queen Latifah in the movie. Fans will recall SET IT OFF centers on four childhood friends who spent a lifetime struggling to move away from the mean streets of their neighborhood. The system stole their dreams and now the four are determined to steal them back. With their world in turmoil and their backs against the wall, they decide to seek their fortune - literally. Targeting the banks of Los Angeles, Cleo, Stony, Tisean (T.T.) and Frankie rob the city's most vulnerable financial institutions. Flush with cash, they discover that mo’ money equals mo’ problems.

The play was great , Da brat, Vanessa Simons and the rest of the crew did an amazing job. Oh when Da brat brought Jessica out at the end was nice. If this was in the city ( Philly) longer would of came back to see it again. Thanks to Cappuccino from Power99 Fm. I won tickets to that show and took my mother.

    The venue-What a rip off

by Icemaiden on 11/30/21The Met Philadelphia - Philadelphia

Great show ! But what stands out to me the most about this and what made it not a five-star experience was the venue the parking situation was a total rip off they had so-called “valet” parking which was $70 and apparently I had to park my own car mind you it was on street parking that I could have just got a $25 ticket instead of paying them $70for me to walk back and forth to my own car in the cold there’s no way in the world they call this valet parking using regular street parking and charging me $70 for a spot I could have just gotten a $25 ticket for. This needs to change I will not be attending any more shoes at this venue ever !

Great play, definitely lived up to the hype. Da Brat was amazing. They really hit key points in the movie well. Job well done!

The play was great, performance was awesome.

by Nor on 11/30/21The Met Philadelphia - Philadelphia

They should close the doors at a certain point, the people walk in and out during the play, people arrive late, it’s horrible, you can’t enjoy the performances when stuff like that takes away from it. The Brat was incredible, she nailed it, to say the least!

by Patty on 11/30/21The Met Philadelphia - Philadelphia

I think that all the actors played their parts so identical to the original actors in the movie Set It Off. I would definitely go and see it again. Cudos to the cast and double cudos to JeCaryous Johnson for directing such a great play!!

    Enjoyable Play

by Montez on 11/30/21The Met Philadelphia - Philadelphia

Overall I enjoyed the play. The entire cast did an awesome job. Stoney and TT's character's were spot on. The humor from the Luther character and da Brat was refreshing. My only two call-outs for the play were 1) the set was a bit boring. The brick wall for backdrop for every scene with the roll-in/roll-out furniture felt a bit low budget. 2) Having Chaz Shepard was a huge bonus and surprise but he wasn't acknowledged as much as he should have at the end of the play. The Brat's girlfriend Judy got a bigger shout-out and recognition then he did and he was from the original cast. Although this was the last show, I am looking forward to seeing the New Jack City play. I would like to see at least one or two of the original cast members make an appearance in these plays if possible. True fans of these movies really appreciate that connection.

Blocked my Vison so I couldn't see!!!

by Exotica on 11/30/21The Met Philadelphia - Philadelphia

The show was amazing from what I could see when the cast was in the middle. I had good enough seats in the Orchestra J section I thought but there was a wall blocking my view THE ENTIRE TIME so I had to watch the show leaning over the aisle when people weren't walking back and forth because of a wall that blocked me from seeing the show. Sad for me that what ever happened on the far right of the stage I couldn't see. That was my first time at the Met and I was having trouble understanding how they would expect for folks to see a show with the wall blocking. Set it Off was a great movie but the play to me was outstanding The Brat did an excellent job.

Set it Off did not set it off!

by Reader2 on 11/30/21The Met Philadelphia - Philadelphia

This is the first time I’ve been to a play that did not start on time. We waited for over 30 minutes for it to start. Keisha Knight Pulliam wasn’t in the show and no mention of a substitution. The whole show felt and looked low budget. The audience really didn’t know when to clap. It just felt like it was thrown together to get money. For the cost of the tickets I felt it should have more scenery and some extras in the show. But I will say that Da Brat played her part. She was good and we heard her rap! No song for the end of the show! They said the next show would be New Jack City, definitely will not be buying tickets for that!

    Very Low Budget

by T. Hutton on 11/30/21The Met Philadelphia - Philadelphia

What was supposed to be a nice Girl's Night Out for the holiday weekend, turned out to be a bust. I've been going to plays, both on and off Broadway, in historic theater houses and high school and college productions for more than 25 years. This experience was different due in part to Covid protocols that were not accurately communicated when purchasing tickets. Fortunately for us, we were vaccinated but were unaware that we needed to show proof or be subjected to a rapid test outside of the theater. This in part caused a large crowd to sift through upon trying to enter the theater. Once inside the theater, it was organized chaos, to say the least. Production Review: We were excited to see an iconic pop culture movie being recreated into a stage play. However, we left at the end feeling very underwhelmed and unfulfilled. The actors were great. The costume designs were on point with the theme. The props and stage design were extremely lacking and almost non-existent. That was a huge disappointment for us. Since we are super fans of the movie, to see it not come across the stage doing it's due diligence to a timeless classic is displeasing and disheartening. There is definitely plenty of room for major improvement and we wish Je'Caryous Johnson success with his future productions.

    Awesome Play!!!!!

by Rash R. on 11/30/21The Met Philadelphia - Philadelphia

The actors and actresses embodied the original characters! Each scene kept your interest and the added humor kept the audience laughing and engaged! The only reason that I gave the play 4 stars instead of 5 is because from a logistics perspective it started approximately 40 minutes late with no communication from anyone. No one announced that we will be starting a little late or curtain call is at 4:40, etc. Therefore, as a patron you are paralyzed in your seat, not sure if you have time to grab a drink, use the restroom, or grab a snack without missing the show opening. I found that to be unprofessional and a little disheartening.
