    Ta-Nehisi was riveting

    by M. W. on 11/21/19Chevalier Theatre - Medford

Some woman introduced the evening, including the NPR interviewer, but I couldn’t understand what she said. Then the interviewer began without introducing herself, so I still have no idea who she was. But then their discussion began. The interviewer was clear and thoughtful and engaging, and Mr Coates was deserving of every single applause. Thank you for such an exciting evening full of ideas. And thank you for my new book!

    Enjoyed the event

    by M. C. on 11/11/19Atlanta Symphony Hall - Atlanta

I enjoyed the event. I wish he'd signed the books and allowed an opportunity for those of us who read the book to ask specific questions.

The sound system was poor - it was difficult to hear

    by B. S. on 11/8/19Atlanta Symphony Hall - Atlanta

It was very difficult to hear Ta-Nehisi due to the microphone system. What he had to say was impactful and Tayari was a great interviewer. Again, it was just difficult to hear them both.

    Fantastic Evening...

by Bookworm on 11/8/19Atlanta Symphony Hall - Atlanta

What an amazing experience to listen to TWO amazing authors with such personality and talent. Tayari was the PERFECT person to interview the amazing Coates. It was informative, engaging and honored the time (an hour!) which all of the teachers in the audience truly appreciated. I would say though, it would have been an additional cozy touch to have the stage set with larger, comfy arm chairs, perhaps a small area rug, to make the stage seem a bit more intimate. Maybe next time! Thanks for creating experiences where we have a chance to celebrate and honor our writers, authors, artists like the "rock stars" they truly are.

    Powerful evening of theater

by Just G on 10/31/19Apollo Theater - New York

I thought that transforming Coates masterful letter to his son (in the spirit of Baldwin's letter to his nephew), "Between the World and Me," into a theater piece would be impossible. Actually, given the fine actors and excellent direction, it turned out to be an exceptional evening in the theater. The jazz ensemble sometimes overwhelmed the (volume of the) actors, but for the most part the production was most effective.

Between the World and Me: Outstanding Experience

by C. on 10/30/19Atlanta Symphony Hall - Atlanta

Ta-Nehisi Coates’ Between the World and Me is one of the most powerful performances I have seen in a long time. The actors/performers brought different voices together to share experiences that resonate with many. The original, live music provided a meaningful and emotional thread that helped weave together the entire performance.

A fresh perspective on the Black experience in America

    by J. S. on 10/28/19Apollo Theater - New York

I bought a ticket on a whim, Brooklyn born/raised but had never been to Harlem nor the Apollo Theatre. The Apollo Theater is truly a majestic place. This show is a breath of fresh air, a "State of the Union" address to the current state of affairs in America from the perspective of educated, HBCU, Black Americans from different walks of life. They went above & beyond and really pushed the discussion to new heights and gave me a new perspective of my own experiences here, growing up as a Black Man. The audience was surprisingly mixed, and this show speaks to all people living the American experience, if you're willing to let go of pre-conceived ideas/notions and simply listen. Highly recommended.

by K. on 10/28/19Apollo Theater - New York

This was a truly amazing production. Even though I had read the book, I felt like I was hearing the words for the first time. The actresses and actors truly brought it to life, and the music was incredible. Must see.

    It was AMAZING!

by Rose on 10/25/19Atlanta Symphony Hall - Atlanta

This event was awesome. I didn't read the book but all the readers brought the story to life. As a fellow HU alumni; I could never find the words to express to my family how I felt when I was on campus. His words met my sentiments exactly. I also enjoy his story to his son. I will buy copies of the book for all the father/son duos in my life. Thanks,

    Tore Out My Heart

by A Mims on 10/25/19Atlanta Symphony Hall - Atlanta

The event again brought to life the words, sentiment and living history of this remarkable letter to his son. I completed the book in the audio mode that was narrated by the author. I was excited to relive the experience in this format. I attended with my mother who is 82, sitting next to a older Jewish couple, and surrounded by millennials and GenX’ers, with several rows of middle school boys behind us. We all were moved together in this spirit of awakening, engagement, and bonding with a hope for a future that is faced with our eyes wide open.

    Thought provoking Reading

    by A. R. on 10/25/19Atlanta Symphony Hall - Atlanta

This book reading was phenomenal. Everyone who read a piece from the book made the words come to live and made you feel the author’s intention when writing it. I would definitely recommend seeing this live reading or reading the book. Well done!
