Meh
Apollo Theater - New York
Would've preferred if the spotlight was even partially on Ta-Nehisi. The whole event was an exercise in praise for Black Thought. There was no talk about the contemporary Black American experience or Black American issues.

Liked their interaction but inaccurate advertising
Apollo Theater - New York
I enjoyed this event. However, I think that it wasn’t advertised in the best way. I was there for both Ta-Nehisi and Black Thought but the focus of the conversation was more on Black Thought. Ta-Naehisi was basically interviewing him. So, I was disappointed that we weren’t able to experience Ta-Nehisi’s story or talk about what his upcoming projects were. I’m typically pretty optimistic about imperfections but this was definitely false or extremely inaccurate advertising. Black Thought was still dope though!

Awesome, but not what I expected
Apollo Theater - New York
The event was amazing, and I loved hearing some deep thoughts and memories from Black Truth. I was disappointed that Ta-Nehisi Coates was not an equal participant in the conversation but more of an interviewer, and I am hoping for another event where I hear more from him.

Ta-Nehisi Coates + Meghna Chakrabarti
Chevalier Theatre - Medford
Last night's discussion with Ta-Nehisi Coates about his recent novel, The Water Dancer, was riveting! Meghna Chakrabarti plied him with great questions, his candid replies were refreshing, revealing his thoughts on slavery in the US, how it ripped apart the fabric of enslaved families + continues to affect African American families today, Black history is American history, about his own childhood, his relationship with his father, being a father to a son himself + how it all relates to his craft of writing. I was thrilled when Meghna chose my questions at the end of the discussion when it opened up to the audience, I asked about the books + authors that ignited a spark + passion in him to pursue the life of an author. Which Ta-Nehisi said were E L Doctorow's Ragtime, the books of Edwidge Danticat + Colson Whitehead's, The Underground Railroad. Also thrilling we bumped into Meghna Chakrabarti on the street after the event + I got a hug + a chance to gush about her + Ta-Nehisi Coates awesomeness! What an incredible night!

Ta-Nehisi Coates
Chevalier Theatre - Medford
Ta-Nehisi Coates was the most thoughtful, smart, engaging, funny, and balanced speaker I've heard. Hearing him was a really great and uplifting experience! Thank you, Mr. Coates. The venue in Medford is an old school building and pretty funky. Sight lines from the orchestra were bad and the overhead screen projection of the discussants wasn't great.
