About

You don't sell over two million copies of your debut album without some serious hard work, and Australian singer/songwriter Vance Joy has never been shy of major elbow grease. When Vance Joy first cut his teeth performing at open mic nights in Melbourne, he was feeding on a diet of artists like The Pogues and Paul Kelly. By 2013 he was ready to introduce the world to his ukulele-led charm 'Riptide', which became an instant global classic. The connection and journey his music was about to have on the world in years to come was an unexpected reward to the young songwriter.

Vance Joy (born James Keogh) consolidated on that first impression with further anthems 'Mess is Mine', 'Georgia' and 'Fire and the Flood'. Those hits all found a home on the 2014's debut 'dream your life away'. Vance Joy spent 2013 and 2014 playing clubs around the world before the album was released which then saw him surface everywhere from singing on the American Idol Season Final to being handpicked to open Taylor Swift's 1989 World Tour, festivals from Lollapalooza in Chicago and South America, to Coachella, Splendour in the Grass and the AFL Grand Final. After his successful Sold Out 2016 'Fire and The Flood' North American theatre run, and Australian performances at the Sydney Opera House, Margaret Court Arena and Riverstage he took a well-earned rest.

Come July 2017 - Vance Joy kicked off the campaign for his sophomore album 'Nation of Two' with the lead single 'Lay It On Me' showing it was destined to be another successful album. The track was followed six months later with the album and follow up single 'Saturday Sun', a tune so good that he held up delivering Nation of Two to ensure it made the cut.

The success of 'Nation of Two' saw Vance Joy tour the world throughout 2018 on the 'Nation of Two World Tour' ranging in venues from Arena's across Canada, amphitheatres in North America including the famous Red Rocks, the first Latin American headline shows, theatres across Europe and Arena's across Australia including two sold-out hometown shows at Melbourne's Rod Laver Arena. November 2018, the end of the 83 date World Tour, Vance Joy had yet another offer to tour with one of the world's biggest female artists. P!NK extended an offer for Vance Joy to join her European stadium run on her Beautiful Trauma World Tour. Summer 2019 saw Vance Joy and band join her biggest tour to date and enjoy an extensive run of Stadium shows across Europe before taking another well-earned break to work on album number three.

In 2021 Vance Joy returned with 'Missing Piece', the song soon hit x2 Platinum in Australia, #1 at USA Triple A Radio, #2 on the Australian Radio Chart, #2 at the USA and Canada Alternative Radio Chart and won Best Video at the ARIA Awards. Released in June 2022, 'In Our Own Sweet Time', the third album by Vance Joy featured hit single, 'Clarity' which peaked at #3 on the USA Alt Radio Charts. The song spent one week at #1, nine weeks in the Top 5 and eleven weeks in the Top 10 on the Triple A Radio Charts in the US. In Australia, Vance Joy received 5 ARIA Nominations after the album's release including, Best Solo Artist, Best Adult Contemporary Artist, Best Pop Release for Clarity, Song of the Year for Clarity and Best Video for Every Side of You. Winning Best Video for the 2nd year in a row.

With 5 billion streams across all platforms, it's no surprise that listeners all over the world connect to Vance Joys intimate yet anthemic song writing. His lyrics take you on a journey that will reach out and hold you for a delicate moment. Bringing together a unique, charming mix of folk music with pop influences, these songs capture the familiar pulse of everyday experiences in a unique and celebratory manner.

Vance was amazing as always, venue was awful

    by SED on 8/28/23

I LOVE Vance Joy, this was the 3rd time seeing him and he did not disappoint! My issue was with the venue, Deer Park in Burnaby. It opened at 5, too early to have eaten dinner beforehand, and you’re not allowed to bring in food, so you’re pretty much forced to stand in line for the food trucks. There were too many people and not enough quick food options- the lines were painfully long. If I had any idea that I’d be standing in line for over two hours, missing the opening acts and part of Vance, I would have just opted to go hungry. But after waiting an hour, I was hopeful and didn’t want to give up after all that. Eventually, 30 minutes into Vance, I’d ordered and paid but still no food and I gave up. My husband and I were separated for hours, hungry, and pissed. It was such a disappointment! But Vance was amazing as always.

    Amazing energy

    by Julia on 8/28/23

I did not expect the concert to be so lively and energetic. The band was phenomenal and I loved the way their talents were thoroughly acknowledged throughout the show. I felt really happy and touched by the beautiful presentation of it all. Simple yet extremely well performed. Congrats!

    1.5 hours for a kernal

by One in the popcorn line on 8/28/23

The venue lineups took far too long. I waited 1.5 hours in the popcorn lineup, and 15 minutes for the bathroom. Vance himself was okay, kind of low energy stage presence it seemed. The vibes in the crowd were good though, lots of kids dancing around which was really fun. Dan Mangan was really fun and interactive which was great!

All round amazing experience - summer concert in a great venue, great set of opening acts, and Vance did not disappoint. Great set list, band was amazing, and even some fun surprises - did not expect an ABBA cover!

    VANCE JOY IS INCREDIBLE!

    by Christine on 8/28/23

My husband and I brought our littlest daughter for a date night. We have to say Vance Joy by far was the most incredible experience we’ve had in a long time. He sounded exactly like he does on his albums and his energy is joyous and infectious. What a talented artist and wonderful human. It makes us thankful to have experienced his music in our lifetime live.

    2 hour food lineup

    by Ak on 8/28/23

Vance joy was amazing, the wait in line for food, not so much. With doors opening at 5, we arrived nice and early but didn’t eat dinner before we came. We were in need of dinner and we saw every line was crazy long but we figured, how bad could it be?!? 2 hours! We waited for 2 hours and missed 3 Vance joy and listened to both openers from line. I think deer lake park needs to have more food trucks, or allow people to bring in their own food.

He was great, the venue was not

    by Lea on 8/28/23

Concert was at 5pm so of course we rushed over after work without having eaten. We then proceeded to wait in a lineup for a food truck for an entire HOUR. After the show started patches of folks stood up and we couldn't see the stage at all :( and because of an injury our group couldn't spend the entire time standing.

    Very long lines

    by Jen on 8/28/23

The concert itself was fantastic- the opening acts were awesome and Vance Joy was absolutely perfect. Have more food trucks. Period. Those lines were abusive. If you aren’t going to allow people to bring food into the venue- then they need to be able to purchase food without waiting in line for 1.5 hours. If you can’t have more food trucks- encourage people to bring their own food. Seriously- not ok.

    Disappointed

    by J. on 7/12/23

He performed for about an hour and a half, no encore, didn’t play some of his best songs. He also forgot the words to songs multiple times and kept saying “oopsies,” which was a little awkward to witness lol. I would not go again, and I was a huge fan of his music in general. He’s not the best performer

    First time’s a charm

    by Gdice513 on 3/28/23The Anthem - Washington

Vance Joy at the Anthem in DC was a night I won’t forget. It was my first concert at this venue and it’s the best I’ve been to for general admission seating. Plenty of space across three levels allowed for good views of the stage and room for dancing. Vance and his talented band were so fun and the opener, Jack Botts, is an Aussie surfer folk rock artist that was a perfect complement.

by Shane on 3/27/23The Fillmore Charlotte - Charlotte

I’d say I’m a frequent concert goer with a variety of musical tastes; Vance Joy would make my Top 5 live artists! Awesome job involving his band and great opener with similar sound and vibe.

    Under Impressed

by LT on 3/27/23The Fillmore Charlotte - Charlotte

Vance was fine, sounded as good in person as recorded. However it was very difficult to enjoy because the venue, The Fillmore, was terrible. 1- It needs to be clear when purchasing Fillmore tickets that there are no seats. It is a standing venue only. Unless you upgrade to one of the very few VIP seats. 2- They allow way too many people into the venue, it was way too crowded! I will not be returning to that venue. But I would see Vance again elsewhere.
