Gave it a shot…
by Aya on 3/27/24I thought I was going to like this play but as I sat through it, I became more irritated. I can count on one hand how many times I laughed. I left during intermission.

THE BOOK OF MORMON ON TOUR
The New York Times calls it "the best musical of this century." The Washington Post says, "It is the kind of evening that restores your faith in musicals." And Entertainment Weekly says, "Grade A: the funniest musical of all time." Jimmy Fallon of The Tonight Show calls it "Genius. Brilliant. Phenomenal." It's The Book of Mormon, the nine-time Tony Award®-winning Best Musical. Contains explicit language.

It doesn't get crazier nor more sarcastically funny than this!! A slew of people making pure fun of religion, mocking literally everything about it ... What could be better??? The writing, singing, cast, stage, everything was just amazing. If you're not a Mormon I highly suggest seeing this show. You'll learn a lot, including how this 'religion' was formed and how it grew to what it is now.
The Book of Mormon is a crude sophomoric production filled with unnecessary bad language, no memorable music, and over-the-top satire about African natives and Mormon missionaries. Leaves a bad feeling about why you took the time to see it.
This musical is not for the faint of heart, but oh my lord, is it hilarious. We were gifted tickets to an afternoon show on Saturday and it’s all we’ve been talking about since. The songs are catchy and funny, the choreography and acting is amazing, and the laughs continue throughout the entire plot.
For anyone not religious and especially not Mormon, this play is hysterically funny!! I have never laughed so hard at a Broadway play! If you are liberal and have a great sense of humor, are a good person but just don't believe in the nonsense of religion, then this is the play for you! A perfect spoof on a completely made up story that became Mormonism.
The actors were all great. Funny songs. Don't bring small children. The episode was dum da dum dum dum better.
Hipperdrome Baltimore Venue. Beautiful 1910 or so building with crammed seating. The musical went at a very quick pace. The actors accents made listening and missing things easy. The choreography was superb, as well as the costumes. The performance was sexual in many cases.
The show is hilarious, even aside from the load of crude and deliberately offensive material one would expect from the creators of South Park, and manages to not be as insulting of the Mormons (or whatever they call themselves for short these days) as I had expected, with the humor sometimes surprisingly subtle. The acting, singing, dancing, etc. is top-notch, with clever set design and scene changes. Definitely worth seeing!
I wasn't sure what to expect from a show titled "The Book of Mormon,"but I thought perhaps I'd be bored. Well, I was incorrect. This show was non-stop fun! From the opening act to the standing ovations at the end, it was lively and entertaining. Just a heads-up to folks who are offended by the "F-word"and references to "adult topics,"the show is full of them--but in a hilariously irreverent manner. The acting was great, the music was lively, and the experience was fun. I very much enjoyed this production.
My husband and I have been dying to see this show, so we bought tickets back on Valentines Day as a gift to ourselves. It was a topic of discussion almost every day leading up to the show about how excited we were to see it. And we absolutely were not disappointed!! We had seen videos here and there of past performances, but mostly had just been listening to the soundtrack on Spotify the past few years, always talking about how much we wanted to see this show. It was so exciting to actually see how the musical numbers tied in to the plot, and we were definitely surprised at some points. We honestly had the best time. First of all, The National Theatre is one of our favorites so that was already a great start. Second, the talent of this cast and crew was absolutely incredible; choreography, vocals, the acting, the delivery of every joke, the set, the lighting techniques, everything was just phenomenal. And even when there was a slight technical difficulty, they fixed it swiftly and were right back to it. I would highly recommend this show. It was truly a delight!
