    A Holiday Tradition worthwhile

by Randy N on 12/20/23Lillian S. Wells Hall at The Parker - Ft Lauderdale

The renovated Parker Playhouse was the perfect venue. First we thought the performance was going to be a ballet school recital when the director came out and gave speeches and awards. However, when the curtain went up, we were more than pleasantly surprised. The primary dancers were excellent, and the company was too. Costumes were beautiful. We would go again next year.

    Fun night at the ballet

by Jose on 12/20/23Lillian S. Wells Hall at The Parker - Ft Lauderdale

Loved the venue, had never been to The Parker. Show was very well done. Great dancers and costumes. No problems arriving or leaving the venue despite long lines at the valet. They had a lot of runners at the valet and the line went quickly. Very organized and efficient.

    Beautiful Show

by Luli on 12/19/23Lillian S. Wells Hall at The Parker - Ft Lauderdale

The production was very lovely. I wish they started on time because my grandson got tired towards the end and we missed probably the last two dances. It started 20 minutes late since 10 minutes after the start time of 7pm a lady presented the show with a very lengthy introduction thanking many people by name, prohibiting cameras, etc. It could have been done in 3 minutes. Then the intermission lasted over 20 minutes, not the 15 minutes announced. The Nutcracker usually has many kids in attendance and we could have enjoyed the entire show if it it hadn’t been for this situations.

    Autumn Spectacular

by Traveldoc on 10/23/23Aventura Arts & Cultural Center - Aventura

A well balanced season opener from this accomplished company. The four seasons opener to beautiful music by Verdi was attractively costumed . The outstanding Pas de Deux were Remina Tanaka and Yayoi Sasaki performing L’hiver and Kanon Murakami and Yoichi Habaguchi in Le Primtemps. By far my favourite piece was Danźon involving the entire company - danced with technical precision and energy - it was vibrant and dynamic. Inspired by Love was a beautiful piece with a rousing musical score with an emotional connection to the company. It would be interesting to see this piece expanded to a full ballet .An excellent evening’s entertainment.

    25th Anniversary Gala Spectacular

by Traveldoc on 5/11/23Lillian S. Wells Hall at The Parker - Ft Lauderdale

The entire gala was an emotional tribute to the life and dedication of Maestro Vladimir Issaev. The mood was set from the start with a short video documentary of Maestro’s life and achievements. The programme was a well balanced mix of group pieces and pas de deux drawn from the Company’s repertoire over the past 25 years. The evening mixed pieces from current company members , past alumni and guest artists, with some children from the Vladimir Issaev School of Classical Ballet. Kirsty Walker brought a lively avian dynamic to her Firebird variation. Saaya Okada and Remi Tanaka gave a virtuoso performance from Papillon to end the first half. Ex alumna and now director of the Grand Ballet of Hong Kong Janis Liu performed a pretty except from Papillon with a light ballon and wit.A big draw to the evening’s event was the presence of Skylar Brandt and Jonathan Klein from American Ballet Theatre performing repertoire from Le Corsaire alongside the current company. Jonathan’s slave variation was exceptional. . The stand out piece of the gala was the performance of Endless by Owen Horsford and Mary Carmen Catoya , who had come out of retirement for this gala.Their moving and passionate performance rightly received a standing ovation. The evening finished on a high with the entire company performing Doble Corchea, a witty and entertaining piece of Vicente Nebrada’s choreography with variations loosely based on Benjamin Britten’s guide to the Orchestra.

    Disappointed

by Arts Lover on 5/2/23Lillian S. Wells Hall at The Parker - Ft Lauderdale

To my regrets, the 25th Anniversary Gala proved that my previous experience with Arts Ballet of Florida was not worth giving it another try. Glad it exists. Glad the audience and participants have exposure to music and dance. Otherwise, the performances are weak.

    Welcome back Mary Carmen Catoya

by Jerry F. on 4/26/23Lillian S. Wells Hall at The Parker - Ft Lauderdale

Mary Carmen's dance performance of "Endless" was simply great! Every movement so expressive, so difficult, so demanding, so sensual, so beautifully danced...both she and Owen Horsford deserved the total standing ovation they received. I wonder what is the percent of choreography Vladimir Issaev envisioned versus what Mary Carmen self input. The performance is one to remember always. Thank you both, or rather thank you all three! JF.

    Parker House Ballet

by Annette on 4/26/23Lillian S. Wells Hall at The Parker - Ft Lauderdale

The ballet was very enjoyable. The dancers were wonderful. The costumes were beautiful. The 30 minute history film was way too long. I understand and respect a tribute to the dance instructor/choreographer but it could have been 5-10 minutes. Was all the MC's commentary really necessary? I've been to ballets before (Joffrey) and there were no summaries of the dance routines or troupe members. Some people left during the lengthy beginning. It was painful.

    Vibrant Children’s Ballet

by Traveldoc 65 on 3/8/23Amaturo Theater at Broward Center - Ft Lauderdale

This was an original witty and entertaining ballet aimed at inspiring children to appreciate ballet and have fun. The story was adapted from a Russian children’s tale about an Onion Boy and his friends , with the fruit and vegetables being adapted in Maestro Vladimir Issaev’s original choreography to suit a Western audience ( such as pumpkins, pineapples and watermelons). The intimate nature of the Amaturo Theater allowed the audience to be close to the performers. The spectacular, colourful and funny costumes added to the lighthearted nature of the ballet. Act 1 showcased children from Vladimir Issaev’s School of Classical Ballet whereas Act 2 concentrated on displaying the virtuosity of the Arts Ballet Theatre of Florida’s Company dancers. All in all an enjoyable and entertaining performance.

    Nice Event

by L. M. on 12/21/22Lillian S. Wells Hall at The Parker - Ft Lauderdale

I enjoyed this production of The Nutcracker. It is nice to see some very talented, local artists put on such a great show. Hard to believe that Tchaikovsky’s masterpiece still makes you feel so good after all of this time! It was also nice to have FREE parking at the Parker Theater. My only recommendation would be to make the intermission just a tad bit longer to accommodate those who needed to go to the restroom and also get a refreshment. I would also recommend lids for the beverages. Other than that, a very enjoyable evening out—worth seeing again!
