ART GARFUNKEL IN CONCERT:

Art Garfunkel, Grammy-winning songwriter and one-half of the inimitable folk duo Simon & Garfunkel, is fully recovered from a vocal cord injury sustained in 2010 and back on tour. Fans at the singer's 2013 shows were blissfully aware there had even been an issue, as the singer passionately wove his voice through beloved classics like "Sound of Silence" and "Bridge Over Troubled Water." Amid rumors of a new solo album and possible future tour with Paul Simon, Garfunkel will take the stage with more energy and excitement than ever in 2014.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Born in Queens, NY, Garfunkel began singing in the first grade, perfecting his technique with a wire recorder given to him by his father. After meeting Paul Simon in 6th grade, the two began  performing together as Tom & Jerry, honing the close vocal harmonies that would mark their later material.  Following a degree in art history from Columbia, Garfunkel once again joined forces with Simon for the duo's 1964 debut album Wednesday Morning, 3 A.M. The album contained "The Sound of Silence," a sleeper hit that ultimately reached No. 1, foreshadowing the success the duo would achieve with chart-topping albums like 1968's Bookends and 1970's Bridge Over Troubled Water. In the ensuing decades, Garfunkel has continued to record and tour — both solo and with Simon — contributing to one of folk music's most venerable legacies.

FANS WHO BOUGHT TICKETS SAY:

"Art Garfunkel. That's all I have to say. He has one of the most beautiful and touching voices I have ever heard. After 72 years of life, he's still got it."

" Art Garfunkel was wonderful. It was like he was sitting in my living room. He sounded wonderful and was so open with his thoughts, feelings and his view of life! Don't miss this show!"

"This is the best show I've seen in years. His voice was top-notch, and you can tell he is really on the mend. In fact, you really couldn't tell there had been any issues with his vocal cords."

    Art Garfunkel

by 1klm on 1/20/10California Theatre of the Performing Arts - San Bernardino

Great concert! He said at the beginning he could sing all night, and the audience sure wanted to hold him to that! No showmanship, no dancing - he just stands there with his hands in his pockets and sings, and that's more than enough. Beautiful voice, great songs, good new stuff and wonderful memories. The venue was great, too. Even the nosebleed seats were good. The theatre's been restored, and is gorgeous. Easy to find, convenient parking. I liked the ambience of the smaller space.

Art Garfunkel and his timeless voice

by MartyS123 on 1/18/10California Theatre of the Performing Arts - San Bernardino

Art Garfunkel still has his voice. It was simply an enchanted evening with Art Garfunkel. He cavalcades through his whole career, so his whole show spans through every album, including the Simon and Garfunkel era, i would see this show 20 more times, if i could

    Art Garfunkel was good.

by allsportsrob on 1/18/10California Theatre of the Performing Arts - San Bernardino

Art Garfunkel could still sing his songs well. This was a concert minus Paul Simon. Art sang most of the Simon and Garfunkel songs by himself. I wish he had a guest singer that could sing Paul Simon's part. Some of the duet songs just didn't sound the same with only one singer. Other than that, the concert was great. The San Bernadino California Theatre of Performing Arts was a nice small venue, and a great place to see Art Garfunkel. Every seat is a great seat. All in all, I would recommend people to get out to see Art Garfunkel. Art did say that he and Simon had toured in Australia, recently, and that they are starting to work together again. I feel that there could be a reunion concert in the near future.

Art Garfunkel was as good as ever!

by Musiciansfantasy on 1/18/10California Theatre of the Performing Arts - San Bernardino

My friend Michelle and I went to the show. We first thought that it wouldn't be as good as it was. Boy, were we in for a treat. He did a show going back from 2007 to the 1950's. Such an awesome show! The band was so awesome! We were sitting five rows out from the stage and it was as if he was singing right in front of us. Artie was so funny too. On "I Only Have Eyes For You," for example, he did a little "Boo bop sha-bob" at the beginning. There were a few laughs. Also, some people came in late after his first song, and he said, "You could take your seats, but I'm not going to go over what I just went over again. Here's what you've missed," with humorous finger wagging. It's so great. After the concert came the reception. Michelle and I were standing at the door to the room of the reception and Artie came up behind us. I guess I wasn't looking at him making eye contact when he glanced right at me. We were waiting on badges to be let into the reception. Finally, we were let in without badges. Then, I went to go get in line to go up and meet him. He, unfortunately for me, snuck out the back door. I guess he had to go. He left some fans lingering to meet him. Oh well. It was a fantastic show with great seats, nonetheless.

    Art Garfunkel ROCKS!

by goatty on 1/18/10California Theatre of the Performing Arts - San Bernardino

Wow - what a show. Like the rest of the world, I have always loved his music - for decades, so when I had the opportunity to see him "live" at a local theatre, I sprang for the best seats in the house. So well worth it - the audience was on their feet often. and the band was great too. I would see him again - soon.

by kayoboy on 1/18/10California Theatre of the Performing Arts - San Bernardino

A perfect example of an intimate concert ! You sense that Garfunkel is singing to you personally than just being in a crowd. And, Oh that voice! So unique among artists past and present.

    Classic Art Garfunkel !

by Anonymous on 12/7/09Twin River Event Center - Lincoln

This was as an excellent 90-minute concert and was surely appreciated by all Art Garfunkel or Simon and Garfunkel fans. He blended a nice combination of the old and the new, but, of course, it was the old favorites, "The Boxer," "Scarborough Fair," "Mrs. Robinson," "All I Know," and, of course, "Bridge Over Troubled Water" -- the greatest song about friendship ever written -- that really kept me asking for more, including several that weren't on his list for the evening. Art's voice seemed to get stronger as the evening progressed; this was especially important because he finished with "The Sound of Silence," which was followed by a standing ovation.

The show was excellent. His voice is still beautiful. He sang all the songs I wanted to hear. I was not as pleased with the venue. The folding chairs were placed too close together. When the audience is over 50 years of age they should think about should give us more space, especially since the room was not filled. Poor Art had to look at row after row of people with their arms crossed because we had no space! I would go see him sing in a flash but I won't go back to Twin Rivers.

A nostalgic evening of wonderful song !

by BostonAl on 12/7/09Twin River Event Center - Lincoln

Art is so shy, so withdrawn - it was amazing to watch his nervous energy from the fourth row. My wife was filled with tears and joy throughout the evening. We will continue to find every chance to watch Art live in concert.

    Garfunkel and Audience Connected

by DebbyP on 12/6/09Twin River Event Center - Lincoln

Nervous at first, Mr. Garfunkel------I think------did not realize how much his audience was there to see HIM. But once he realized how much he was touching us (the nostalgia for an earlier, simple, more thoughtful time in our lives when music had poetry and a message), he related to us as if we were part of an intimate jam session, sharing music, thoughts, feelings. His back up musicians were phenomonal. Newer songs and (not as well-known) offerrings still held the artistry that is folk/rock.

    Art Garflunkel Holiday Extravaganza

by Beatrix665 on 12/5/09Twin River Event Center - Lincoln

Thought we were going to a "Christmas Show". No Christmas Show, no choir, not even one rendition of Jingle Bells. Venue was held at Twin River - there was a stage, there were lights, there were even two large screen TVs but the chairs were piled on top of each other and were your typical folding chair with pad. This wasn't a get out of your chair concert, if you know what I mean. Only songs that were good were the "old" Simon and Garfunkel tunes from back in the day. He needs some backup singers to hit certain notes and definitely needs Simon back.

    Garfunkel was Grand

by 27Hope on 12/5/09Twin River Event Center - Lincoln

I thoroughly enjoyed this performance. The last time I had the pleasure to see him was back in the 80's. I enjoyed all his music, his soft side, and his wonderful amazing voice. He has such a nice laid back personality. I did not want the show to end.

    Art Garfunkel was truly amazing.

by Maurice222 on 12/5/09Twin River Event Center - Lincoln

Art Garfunkel gets a 5 star rating (absolutely amazing). He slowly and deliberately moved the show along to a mind enthralling crescendo! He has presented a show that has moved into my number one favorite concert. Mr. Garfunkel never let down for a moment. He was there to entertain and he far exceeded that expectation. He used his voice magnificently, taking risks and just going for the best performance he could give. He is a jewel among performers. I am grateful for having had the experience of seeing and hearing him.

    the show rocked!

by Helenwood on 12/5/09Twin River Event Center - Lincoln

it rocked when it was supposed to, and rolled when we needed a lullaby. he brought his great personality along with a beautiful perfect pitch. His band was tremendous. the only thing that sucked was the folding chairs we had to sit in - man, after a while.....but we'd brave the hurting bum and back to see him again.

    Art Garfunkel still a crooner!

by BillandJane on 12/5/09Twin River Event Center - Lincoln

Great songs, sung well with a great support group. Only problem was the show was way too short... just over an hour.

Art at 68 years still gets the high ones out

by mrasp on 12/5/09Twin River Event Center - Lincoln

As a live long fan, I was excited to simply attending the show. I never expected Art to get the songs out so clear and in many ways, characteristic of his younger days. He has maintained that sweet howl that rings through the harmony in songs like Sound of Silence and Cathy Song. He is still the same humble soft spoken man that we knew in the 60’s. The father of a 4 year old boy, Beau, it is clear that he has been blessed and is enjoying life and will for the rest of his days

    Art was very enjoyable

by patlinsue on 12/5/09Twin River Event Center - Lincoln

Art came out on stage looking like he had aged a great deal since I saw him eleven years ago. He began slow and looking like his age. He then woke up and built up steam to a very good concert. There were no holiday songs. Not a one. He did some Simon and Garfunkel songs that were excelent. He did many of the songs he did since he was on his own. We called out for Second Ave. and he said "no Second Ave. tonight" Other people called out songs and he said he could pick the songs he wanted to do. He read poems from his book which pretty much went over our heads. He talked about his four year old son. We enjoyed the jokes he made and he came across as warm and connnected to the audience.
