ARLO GUTHRIE IN CONCERT:

Folk singer-songwriter Arlo Guthrie always puts smiles on fansí faces with the stirring performances and friendly demeanor he brings to the stage. Crooning and strumming his signature ballads and protest tunes, this folk revival legend invites audiences to sing along to favorites like ìComing into Los Angelesî, ìThe Motorcycle Songî, and ìCity of New Orleansî. As Guthrie recaptures the enthusiastic energy and zest for social justice that made him a standout at the first Woodstock Festival, ticket buyers will find themselves swept up in the emotional pull of his touching songs. Guthrie is a captivating story teller, and audiences will be rolling in the aisles as he regales them with humorous anecdotes about the Summer of Love and his famous father Woody Guthrie. But even if fans are just there to hear one of the ë60s most famous folk troubadours perform his classic tunes, Arlo Guthrie is sure to delight.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

The son of renowned folk singer Woody Guthrie, Arlo was raised to spread a message of social consciousness through his music. Growing up in Brooklyn, the younger Guthrie became deeply involved in Greenwich Villageís early ë60s folk scene, befriending luminaries such as Bob Dylan and Rambliní Jack Elliot. Just two years out of high school he released 1967's ìAliceís Restaurant Massacreî, a humorous talking blues track that satirized the Vietnam Draft. The songís popularity lead to an appearance during the first day of Woodstock í69, forever linking him to the countercultural movements that the festival espoused. Though heíll always be remembered for lending his voice to humanitarian causes, he also enjoyed a respectable comedic acting career well into the ë90s. These days, Arlo Guthrie still tours frequently so that friends far and wide can enjoy his riveting protest tunes and sidesplitting stories about the good old days.

    Mostly great!

    by kl.lehmak on 5/3/19Moore Theatre - Seattle

Our seats were wonderful but a bit frustrating finding out that you can't bring in drinks. You can, however, bring in soda, but it can't be on ice! Guthrie was great, as always- this was my 3rd or 4th time seeing him. He had lost a lot of his voice which was too bad, but it was still well worth it. His band was wonderful. His daughter had a beautiful voice but would have liked songs that weren't meant for young children. Her story about her daughter seeing an angel (grandmother) outside the airplane window turning into a star might have been cute had mom left it there. However, she went on as though we should all have believed this was a true story. Kids have a great imagination, but as a parent, you're supposed to know the difference! Her songs came off as being pretty sappy and although I did like her voice, I didn't care for her songs or story telling.

    Great Show

    by C.R. on 5/3/19Moore Theatre - Seattle

We loved Arlo and his family. He is a great gravelly voiced story teller. The use of the movie screen to add context for some of the songs enhanced the performance. His son and daughter are wonderful musicians.

    Loved the concert!!!

by DragonDawn on 5/3/19Moore Theatre - Seattle

His voice was scratchy, but he explained that and any singer has a perfect right to have a sore throat and still go on. Venue was awesome! My only concern was for the mobility impaired/limited folks. They were in the balcony (F row) level with us and some of the larger wheelchairs almost blocked what little walking space (maybe 12-14 inches) there was. Nobody complained but those with walkers, canes, and balance problem almost toppled a couple times trying to go around it. I will go to concerts there as much as I can afford, no views blocked, sound is good, and architecture is incredible!

A Lovely Evening with Folk History

by Beats on 5/3/19Moore Theatre - Seattle

Loved the Arlo Guthrie show at the Moore on April 30, 2019. His voice was croaky from tour exhaustion, but his musicianship, charm, and storytelling were in outstanding form. He did hand the show over to his daughter, Sarah Lee Guthrie, for about four songs too many. (Her voice is lovely and she’s a great entertainer in her own right but not why we came.) Still and all, the full-length “Alice’s Restaurant” and “City of New Orleans” were worth the price of admission. And it was great to hear raw music and voices unaltered by too much technology out of a long-running, multi-generational family business where band members have been together since the ‘70s. A magical night.

    Great Show/Hassle Experience

by Paul on 2/12/19Birchmere - Alexandria

Arlo performed his usual great show; I've seen him many times over many years. But, hey, $180 for two tickets plus fees. $50 for mediocre food, and we didn't have any drinks. Dinner is almost mandatory, as everybody gets to the Birchmere two hours before showtime because all seating is general admission, so decent seats require getting there early. Thus, it's a six-hour/$230 experience for two people for a less than 2.5 hour show, including intermission. If Jammin' Java can sell specific seats, why can't the Birchmere? And fees are out-of-control! Arlo & band did their job. Feemeisters and Birchmere are ruining it.

    Arlo was superb!

by GJenks on 2/12/19Birchmere - Alexandria

Great show. Listening to Arlo is like sitting in your living room with an old friend. Casual, engaging performance with plenty of the amusing banter that he’s famous for. Sarah Lee was also very entertaining. Great to see her touring with her father. In addition, the Birchmere is the perfect location for this kind of show. Very intimate venue.

    Arlo and Daughter are Great

by Glenn on 2/11/19Birchmere - Alexandria

It was a great and enjoyable show. His storytelling around his songs was a plus. His daughter has a lovely voice. Glad I went. Only criticism was that his daughter did almost half of the first act--too many songs when we're expecting to hear Arlo.

    Magical Night

by Steve Brown on 1/29/19Buckhead Theatre presented by Cricket Wireless - Atlanta

I first saw Arlo in 1976 or 77 in Stockbridge. Took my 20 year old son in 2011 or so in ATL. And then this Saturday in Buckhead... this wonderful family man’s voice has mellowed and deepened with age to such a rich patina that without a doubt THIS was my favorite in 40 years! A lot of that has to do with his som Abe playing keys, Youngest daughter Sarah Lee strumming a big old Gibson and singing her beautiful songs, another daughter (sorry I can’t remember name)on percussion, and a bass/lead/drums backing each outstanding on their own. On one stage Woody’s line still holds such sweet tradition and reminds us of what is important - Family, Kindness and Caring for others, and Peace (oh and SWEET HEALING MUSIC!). If you are wise enough to take the time to stop and smell the flowers, if you are sentimental, are a child at heart - GO SEE THEM. This was truly a magical night! I felt 40 years younger when it was over, but not really over since I was able to keep it in my heart and soul like a little present from the Guthries. THANK YOU and bring Woody’s great-grandchildren next time if they are ready!!!!

    Arlo Guthrie

by Tom on 1/23/19Parker Playhouse - Ft Lauderdale

Alice's Restaurant - Back by Popular Demand. Wonderful evening. The Parker Playhouse is a small, historic theater - the perfect intimate setting to enjoy Arlo Guthrie, his family, and band members perform. Particularly enjoyable when Arlo would fill time between songs to reminisce about his life.

    An Intimate Famiy Gathering

    by J. J. on 1/22/19Parker Playhouse - Ft Lauderdale

The concert was heart warming and moving. Seeing Arlo play with his long-time band and son Abe was touching. They were so tight. Then he brought out his daughter and she played some of her own songs - what a treat. She was both charming and engaging. And what a songstress. I am blessed that I had the experience of the 50th anniversary of the movie Alice’s Restaurant. It was unforgettable.

Great concert in the best venue!!

by Music lover in Coral Springs on 1/22/19Parker Playhouse - Ft Lauderdale

Arlo Guthrie was great! His daughter, Sarah Lee performed several songs as well. I knew nothing of her music but now am a fan! She has a gorgeous voice and is very talented. Arlo’s son, Abe played keys and did a great job. We left there with one question though..... why were there about 6 guitars racked on stage? They weren’t used. 🤷🏻‍♀️

    annual visit with Arlo

    by A. G. on 1/22/19Parker Playhouse - Ft Lauderdale

My first privilege seeing Arlo was that Friday night in August, 1969 at Yasgurs farm. Since then I've seen him many times and most recently I've been taking my youngest with me. He and his family delight us in South Florida every year in January and we've gone to see him now 6 years running. It's like an annual pilgrimage for me and Arlo never disappoints. He's a national treasure and any chance to see him is nothing short of blissful.
