Arizona Coyotes History

Before they were the Arizona Coyotes, this franchise — a founding member of the World Hockey Association — was originally based in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, and began playing in 1972 as the Jets. The early team made headlines before the season even started after signing hockey star Bobby Hull from the Chicago Blackhawks. The Jets went on to be one of the best teams in the league, winning three titles from 1976 to 1979.

The WHA merged with the NHL before the 1979-1980 season, but the Jets were unable to maintain their dominance and the franchise was relocated to Arizona before the 1996-1997 season; they became known as the Phoenix Coyotes. The Coyotes subsequently qualified for the postseason in each of their first four seasons and hockey legend Wayne Gretzky became a minority owner of the team in 2000 and their head coach in 2005.

After filing bankruptcy in 2009, the team was later purchased by the NHL. Despite the tumultuous seasons, the Coyotes won 50 games during the 2009-2010 season. In the 2011-2012 season, they won their first division title in franchise history. In 2013, the NHL sold the team and its name was changed to the Arizona Coyotes in 2014. Since 1997, the Coyotes have made it to the playoffs a total of nine times.

There Are No Bad Hockey Games!!

by LadySunny on 10/25/09JOBING.COM ARENA - Glendale

I love both teams and really wish more people would come out and support the Coyotes. Hockey is one of the most exciting sports ever and watching it live just enhances the experience. I hope the Coyotes stay in Phoenix and I hope you take advantage of the state-of-the-art Jobbing Dot Com Arena and a young team with a lot of heart - the Phoenix Coyotes. This is money very well spent. I will be back for more!

    Coyotes were disappointing

by dbaywes on 10/25/09JOBING.COM ARENA - Glendale

We love hockey. We love our Coyotes. They were great until the last 10 minutes of the third period. They seemed to give up. Too many errors, no hussle and it was like they didnt give any effort to win.

Coyotes v Red Wings Hockey Game

by jrmgilbert on 10/24/09JOBING.COM ARENA - Glendale

Coyotes and Red Wings always play close games and this one wasn't any different. The game was close throughout with great play by both teams. Coyotes pull out a win with a late goal in regulation to send it into overtime. They then score in overtime to win. Great game.

    Save the Coyotes!!

by Aielman on 10/24/09JOBING.COM ARENA - Glendale

This was an Excellent game! What could be better than seeing a world class team like the Detroit Red Wings LOSE to the Phoenix Coyotes!! Not only seeing them win but we got on the jumbo tron twice!! That was way cool, as usually we sit in the upper bowl. I spent some extra money and got the lower bowl tickets as a birthday present for my new wife . This game couldn't have been any more perfect!

Even though I'm a Michigan native who loves the Red Wings, it was good to see the Coyotes continue with their winning ways this season.

the lack of fans was certainly made up by the enthusiasm of the ones that did attend great time, definitely a 'do-over'

by NicoleSaraMary on 10/19/09JOBING.COM ARENA - Glendale

The atmosphere was amazing and there's not a bad seat in the entire building. The employees in the building were helpful... the food was okay. The prices were awesome and everyone respected in each other even though the home team didn't win. The choice of music was good, sounded great.... and the video montages were pretty cool too. Would definately bring friends again for its a great place to bring your friends and hopefully will bring in NEW fans.

This was our first visit to Jobing.com Arena. The arena is beautiful inside & spotlessly clean. We had a wonderful experience and would do it again. The employees of the arena were polite, helpful & friendly. The only drawback to the evening was they keep the place soooo COLD ! There were fans watching the game with jackets, stocking caps & even blankets around them. It was 102 degrees outside, but this was definetily taking it to the extreme. We're originally from Boston & certainly know what it means to be cold, but this was crazy.

    Playing like they mean it!

by Kelleysazz on 10/18/09JOBING.COM ARENA - Glendale

What a difference in the team from last season to this season! The Coyotes are playing well so far (with the exception of the season opener!). Last night everything clicked. Breezy made a lot of great saves, the Yotes performed well on the power plays, and they beat down the Bruins offensive manoeuvers at just about every turn, rarely giving up the puck. It helped that I was closer than I've ever been to the ice, too! Great game!

    Great

by MVPDefenseman on 10/17/09JOBING.COM ARENA - Glendale

First time at new arena. It's a wonderful facillity. Had great seats. Enjoyed every minute of the White Out game. Didn't realize how many stores, resturants, pubs and the movie theater that are located right next to the stadium. We'll be back for several more Coyotes games and we'll be trying out the resturants prior to game time. Keep the special deals coming and thanks for the tee shirt!

Even though they don't get the crowds that they would like to see, they do play a very up tempo style and are a good product for the prices that they are asking for tickets.

The temperature was frigid, but the fans were warm

by Oldieone on 10/16/09JOBING.COM ARENA - Glendale

The Coyotes have an awesome venue! From the time we retrieved our tickets at the "Will Call" window to the last GOAL we had an amazing first-time experience. Everything about the stadium screams repeat for us.I don't think there's a bad seat in the house and the stadium keeps the fans engaged not only during the game action, but at each intermission as well. We will definitely go again.

    yotes home opener was amazing!

by bletaz on 10/14/09JOBING.COM ARENA - Glendale

To be part of the Phoenix Coyotes 1st home game this season was awesome! It was great seeing a full arena & everyone (mostly everyone) in white! Tyson Nash looked dreamy in his white tails tux! Howl for him! It was great seeing our boys tying to get the puck in the net the whole night! Poor Bryz hardly had any work to do! & the shot that got around him was a totally luckly shot & the other shot, he was pulled from the net! Great game even if we did lose! The energy was at an all time high! Jobing.com arena is a great plae to see anything! Not a bad seat in the place!

    Coyotes vs. Columbus Blue Jackets

by evalou on 10/12/09JOBING.COM ARENA - Glendale

Good game but one HUGE disappointment - 2nd goal right before end of game, we were like what?! How did that happen? Where's the Yotes goalie? There was no explanation, no instant replay, zip, nadda, nothing! Still want to know how that last goal happened! LMK, okay?
