Arch Enemy on Tour

Veteran performers, this melodic death metal group have toured far and wide beyond their Swedish origins. One of Arch Enemy's first outings, the Burning Bridges tour, was a rough ride — in 1999, bassist Sharlee d'Angelo was replaced twice. The band smoothed things out as they hit Japan a few years later in support of albums Wages of Sin and Anthems of Rebellion. Ever since, Arch Enemy's aggressive jaunts have spanned the globe: Europe, North and South America, Australia, New Zealand and even South Korea. They've toured with groups like Trivium, DragonForce and Opeth, and have shared festival bills with bands such as Megadeth, Judas Priest, Slayer and Anthrax. June 2019 marks the start of a massive world tour beginning at the Rock am Ring festival in Nürburg, Germany, and hits the U.S. in the fall.

Arch Enemy Background

Arch Enemy were founded in 1996, and the group's original members included guitarist Christopher Amott of Armageddon and drummer Daniel Erlandsson of Eucharist, as well as guitarist Michael Amott of Carnage and vocalist and bassist Johan Liiva (both of whom were also in the Liverpool-based extreme metal group Carcass). Releasing Black Earth in 1996, they started gaining an audience right from the beginning. The album, released on Wrong Again, debuted at No. 193 on the U.S. Billboard 200 and No. 97 on the Swedish charts. After the success of Black Earth, Arch Enemy signed with Century Media to release Stigmata in 1998, immediately followed by 1999's Burning Bridges. Both albums charted in the U.S. and Sweden, as well as France, Germany, Japan and Finland. In 2000, vocalist Liiva left, was replaced by German death metal singer Angela Gossow and the new lineup released Wages of Sin the following year. Gossow was the group's frontwoman until 2014, when she was replaced by Alissa White-Gluz. Released in 2017, Will to Power was the band's first album to feature clean singing; it was ranked on Metal Hammer's 100 Best Albums of 2017 list and won Best Album that year in Burn! Magazine as well.

    Arch Enemy kicked ass

by Anonymous on 2/1/10Recher Theatre - Towson

A really great show. I missed out of Arsis but got there in time for Exodus who rocked the house. Second time seeing Exodus and they were solid and precise. Arch Enemy was amazing as well. My fifth time seeing Arch Enemy and they keep getting better and better.

    an okay show

by Nordic73 on 1/31/10House of Blues Chicago - Chicago

The venue was fine, of course. Arch Enemy's performance was anti-climatic and obviously lip synced. If I pay money for a performance, I want to hear the real thing. The first two bands were better than Exodus and Arch Enemy in my mind.

    ANGELA ROCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!

by Hawksboy on 1/30/10House of Blues Chicago - Chicago

Angela Gossow is amazing. She ROCKS!!!!! Best Metal show in a long time. The Amott Bros. are 2 of the best shredders in metal. Great sound in the pit.

Opening acts were solid, but arch enemy was the real reason i was there. Have seen them before, but this was the best. Would definitely go again. 7 dollars for a beer tho is my only complaint.

    Insane Show

by turqoise on 1/24/10Nokia Theatre Times Square - New York

So this was one of the most intense shows i have ever been to and it did not disappoint at all. Each of the four bands played perfectly and really were able to make the crowd a part of the show. The Nokia Theatre in itself helped as well with its personal atmosphere it only increased how good this show was. For anyone looking to see Mutiny Within, Exodus, Arsis, or Arch Enemy on this tour it is an absolute must and for anyone just looking to go to the Nokia Theatre in the future that is a must too it is a smaller venue but set up extrememyl well. The sound in the venue is excellent the way the bars, bathrooms, and the merchandise tables are set up keep the venue from being over crowded and makes it easy to get around which is an awesome add on. Overall two thumbs up amazing.

    Metal for the masses!

by LadyShadowcross on 1/24/10Nokia Theatre Times Square - New York

First off, the Nokia Theatre is a great venue to enjoy concerts with their state-of-the-art sound system and comfortable atmosphere. I was late to the show so I missed Mutiny Witihing but made it in time to see Arsis on stage. Their fast-paced electric rhythm enveloped us with their hot hellish melodies. Then, a perfect band to warm us up for the headliner, none other than Exodus! These guys are still powerful and full of life as they were back in the eighties. The audience slammed back and forth to their music to which they ended their set by having the frenzied mass attack each other Braveheart-style. Last but not at all the least, Arch Enemy exploded on stage and ignited the air with their shrill guitar solos and phenomenal vocals. To highlight their set, performed was a drum solo that rocked me off of my feet! All in all, it was a metalhead's wet dream to which I would want to experience over again.

    Mindblowing

by Ant718 on 1/23/10Nokia Theatre Times Square - New York

Arch Enemy is better live than in the studio. This was so evident as soon as they took the stage last night. I will never miss a show when they come to my area.

    Wow!

by bigbear92001 on 1/23/10Nokia Theatre Times Square - New York

Mutiny Within, the event's first band all have a high level of playing ability-this impressed me especially given their young age but the vocal style of "ripping" it mixed with this pop/emo/crooning thing is really annoying. He has a good scream-he should just mix in different registers of that scream or if he wants to go clean-pick a different key. Arsis was freaking killer! I saw them two years ago with exodus and they didn't impress me that much as a band even though the main dude's guitar playing has always been stellar. Last night not only looking in better shape physically his guitar playing was even better if that's possible! And his new second guitarist was a level up from his last second guitarist and songs as a whole were better this time-I am now a fan and would love to see them again!!!! Exodus was the reason I went to this event and they of course did not disappoint. Their live performance brought the most energy out of the crowd. My only critique would be that the rhythm guitar parts sounded "muddy". The volume was up which of course is good but if up too much you can't distinguish the notes, power chords, phrasing etc. This affected the catchiness of the catchy riffs. Get it right guitar techs!!! Arch Enemy was great!!!!!!!!!!-from the playing ability to the guitar tone to the songs to that hot babe who could really hang with any male metal vocalist out there. The drum solo and guitar solo were also refreshing as well. Will be downloading and/or buying much of their music which as of right now I have none. O and yeah I would love to see them again!!

    Arch Enemy

by Anthonye on 1/23/10Nokia Theatre Times Square - New York

I loved all the bands. Arch Enemy was the best. The only thing I hated was they didn't play a encore. They only had two songs left and they couldn't play them cause of the time limit.

Awesome event, even though the Nokia Times Square Theater has all the charm of a factory floor. Way too stylish for Metal. Arch Enemy are one of my favourite bands, but I can't help feeling that they got usurped by Exodus on this night. The old-school trashers grabbed the audience by the throat and never let up, ripping through their songs with an seemingly endless amount of energy. Arch Enemy were polished, dare I say too polished, and did not play an obligatory encore. Even though they rocked hard and were super tight (sound was ther best of the night too) it felt a little bit like they were just doing their job.

    One hell of a show!

by Pixxle on 7/20/09Quest Club - Minneapolis

Went to see them in Minneapolis, MN with Chimara and God Forbid. WOW, Im a die hard Arch Enemy fan, but I was stunned at how well the performance was. The songs were all in perfect pitch and the singer really worked the crowd. If you enjoy metal and want to see a very good live show, check out Arch Enemy!
