Apollo Music Café explores music genres from the Apollo’s heritage – R&B, hip hop, soul, jazz, pop, funk and rock – transformed by cutting-edge artists in a stylized lounge space!
Yoli Zama did not disappoint. She gave us a magical night of South African jazz and folk music. If you closed your eyes you could have sworn that Miriam Makeba, Mama Africa herself, was on stage. She has amazing stage presence and I loved how she interacted with her audience. The band and backup singers were absolutely wonderful as well. I definitely want to see her again.
On December 7, 2019 at Apollo Music Café, the light shone bright on the remarkable Ryan Jamaal Swain. Shouts to Hard Hittin' Harry for his amazing pre-show DJ set and every singer and instrumentalist that accompanied Ryan. The artists Ryan covered included George Benson, Musiq Soulchild, Floetry, Boy George, Whitney, Justin Nozuka, AND Donny Hathaway and Lalah Hathaway. This was a set that presented Ryan - for those who know him only as a dancer & actor from the life-changing show "POSE" - as the person he is: Storyteller. Advocate. Leader. Torch bearer. Truth speaker. And, of course, Spectacular Singer (caps on purpose). Ryan showed us - and he lives - how our skills, goals, & dreams are supported & enhanced by being our realest & most vulnerable. If he's playing where you live, buy tickets and go. Ryan Jamaal Swain for the win.
The experience was great. Ryan did an outstanding job; however, the waiter was so busy he forgot about me and the others at my table and started waiting on new tables before I could order. I saw another table in need of something so they had to go up to the bar to try and order for themselves. I can understand the pressure of serving so many people so I don’t blame the waiter, but there may be a need for more waiters for another sold out show. Also, the woman who was bringing out the drinks kept bring drinks and food to my table that wasn’t ours, I’m not sure If the waiter was putting in the tables wrong or if she didn’t understand which table was what, but there should be more clarification amongst the staff also
I didn't even know Apollo Theater had a music cafe. Great venue, and amazing that the support emerging artists. I came to see Bartolmeo, and he and his band were absolutely phenomenal- great original music in addition to covers, incredible collective of talented musicians, and represented the Apollo brand well!
No lines, laid back staff that was attentive and helpful. Amazing production/sound quality and bar service in the Music Cafe. Of course, the talent - Kennedy Administration - a group of INCREDIBLE musicians who have worked with the likes of Elton John, Gregory Porter, Ray Angry, and Latin music star Alejandro Sanz, put on a STELLAR jazz/funnk fusion show that sold-out the opener for Apollo Theatre's 2019/2020 season of the Apollo Music Cafe. Catch Kennedy Administration on Wednesdays at Groove on Macdougal St. in Greenwich Village!

Kimberly Nichole is simply the reason why I love music! She took you on a journey and invited you into her life. I was reminded of the real relationships we forge with people on our journey to achieving whatever it is we aspire to achieve. Her voice was dynamically souful, while staying true to spirit of Rock & Roll. All I can say is SIMPLY AMAZING!
The show was great as her band was tight! She had special guest singer do a big hit. Plus a spoken word/poet whom dropped deep words.
Nick Rashad Burroughs is JAMES BROWN LIVE! was a blast! Band was fantastic, venue was great - Nick is a superstar in the making!! Highly recommend the next time it comes around.
Kyla Jade was AMAZING in adapting to the horribly bad sound system and technician. It's a small venue and grid to mix for the in house crowd. BGVs and music was higher than her mic throughout the entire 30 minute performance, along with her monitors being non existent. Good thing she can project and give a great show, because you would have never heard her. Very disappointing as I don't think fans really got into the evening as they could have to experience wonderful live music and her show. Surprised that the Apollo brand has not mastered this. *Note: opening act had sound issues also*

Crystal Monee Hall is a true talent with a sound and opinion that is needed and matters. Apollo staff needs to work out the kinks for a smooth and seamless presentation.
I went to this concert expecting good things but it was far beyond my expectations. Abiah's voice, delivery, and interpretation is perfection. He is a unique and special artist and it was a privilege to be there.
Fabulous venue and fabulous talent. It’s the kind of place you should go see almost anyone!
Amazing musicians! Amazing performance! Celisse and The War & Treaty were both absolutely incredible!
Loaf Muzik continuously offers a one of a kind performance. Each member is the living embodiment of authentic hip-hop culture. Their shows offer high power lyricism and crowd participation. Their sound is clean and creates a feeling of being submerged. I loved every minute of their performance at the Apollo. I hope to see them there again on the main stage.
PJ Morton and his accompanying musicians put on a wonderful show at the Apollo Cafe. It was the perfect venue for this showcase, and it would be great to have him perform there again!

Yas to Jamila of the Apollo Theater for booking this Grammy nominated artist. It's not often you find artists that stay true to their sound all the while leveling up each and every performance. His delivery on this evening, was unassuming, pleasantly flavored with new aromas. I am forever a supporter of PJ Morton and I encourage you to CHECK HIM OUT! He goes on tour in August for his latest LP, "Gumbo"
