About

Arguably one of the most unique and captivating metal bands on earth, Apocalyptica have today announced their anticipated return to Australian shores! Presented by MJR Presents, the four-piece cello outfit are returning to play the biggest rooms they have ever played in Australia.

Having previously sold out solo runs around Australia, and surprised fans on the 2015 Soundwave Festival tour, the Finnish ‘cello metal’ group will return to Australia in September, for two brand new shows at some of the country’s most prestigious halls; the brand new The Fortitude Music Hall in Brisbane, the iconic Sydney Opera House and Melbourne’s Hamer Hall.

The Finnish, cello-driven rock opus, who changed the landscape of both heavy and classical music for years to come with the release of their 1996 album "Plays Metallica by Four Cellos", have built a reputation for incredible live shows, which consistently blurs the line between metal, classical, theatre and rock-opera. To celebrate the 20th Anniversary of the album, the group re-released it, remastered with 3 bonus tracks on July 22, 2016. Added to this new version were brand new / never-before-released instrumental recordings of "Battery," "Nothing Else Matters" and "Seek & Destroy."

After playing over 170 "Plays Metallica by Four Cellos" concerts in more than 40 countries, Apocalyptica went on to release seven critically acclaimed albums, selling over 6 million records worldwide.

Over the course of their career, Apocalyptica have played at venues like the Theatre of Living Arts in Philadelphia and have brought places like the Summit in Denver to capacity.

    Great show

by Dreepa on 9/16/22State Theatre - Portland

They played a bit of everything. New stuff, some with Franky singing. Cover tunes old stuff. Two great opening bands (I hadn’t heard of either of them and now have added to my rotation). Great venue. Worth the price (which was reasonable)

    Killer set!

by Drew on 9/16/22State Theatre - Portland

The openers were fun and energetic. Apocalyptica remains a killer group with a fantastic blend of classical and rock styles. Loved the experience and had an absolute blast!

    Wow

by Vilegod on 9/16/22State Theatre - Portland

Who can make a cello sound like these guys can, no one can. Heavy metal and classical rolled up into one: unbeliveable to see in person, i am totally blown away by these guys.

    3 Aces

by RAMMAN on 9/13/22Baltimore Soundstage - Baltimore

Great show, 1st time at this venue. Used the parking offer and it was perfect. All 3 bands were first time shows for me and I was not disappointed. Knew of both Leprous and Apocalyptica music but was really surprised with WHEEL. Loved their sound that reminded me of early TOOL. I will look forward to see other acts at this venue.

    Great show!

by Chris on 9/12/22The Underground - Charlotte

I love Apocalyptica and I love The Underground. The space wasn't crowded which was very nice. I was able to see the show and the sound quality was very good. Paying ten bucks to park is ridiculous. $45 to get in the door and $15 a beer doesn't make you enough millions? Oh yeah, and two beers cost me $30! Did I miss the gold bar in the bottom of the can?

In top 3 of my favorite concert groups to see

by ironmaidencheryl on 9/11/22The Underground - Charlotte

Except for the traffic in and around Charlotte, everything was superb. All of the member signed a birthday card for me as well as wished me Happy Birthday as the concert was on my birthday and seeing Apocalyptica was my husband's birthday gift to me. The "meet and greet" was my gift to myself. Absolutely awesome. It was the best night of my life except the night I got married to my wonderful husband.

    A Magical Experience

by Chris on 9/11/22The Underground - Charlotte

I was introduced to Apocalyptica about 20 years ago and have been wanting to see them live since. I finally got my chance, two nights in a row, and was not disappointed. (I even got to meet the band the first night.) Incredible performances, great showmanship, well worth all the years I waited. Don't miss them!

Unexpectedly One of My Favorite Concerts of the Year

by BB on 5/14/22Roxian Theatre - Pittsburgh

Opener for this was Lacuna Coil, who I’m actually a small fan of because of their lead singer. She is absolutely wonderful to hear live, though not quite polished during this performance. For the rest of the band, I could take it or leave it (especially when I hear a bass played with picks). Overall, would see again if they were touring with another group, but wouldn’t go out of my way to see them as the main act. For Apocalyptica… whoa. There are some bands that you only listen to on CD and not live (looking at you Deftones), but Apocalyptica is not one of them. This was the first time seeing them live, and I would go back to see them again in a heartbeat. They were fantastic and solid. The music they played was phenomenal, they were seriously entertaining to watch as they moved around the stage, and they were just the right amount of relaxed and humorous when they talked. I felt like I got more than my money’s worth with them as performers. The only slight concern I had was their songs with the singer, Franky Perez. Don’t get me wrong, he is a phenomenal vocalist. It was just, every time he came on stage, everything just kind of slowed down and the energy kind of fell for me- especially as the cellos stopped moving around the stage and just focused on him singing. It felt less like the metal I was anticipating, because he didn’t always utilize the more metal growls that he hinted he had. Instead, it was smoother tones- which had I expected it, I may have enjoyed it more. It felt less like a metal concert and more like a song on the radio. Bottom line - if you’re on the fence, just go see them.

    Goosebumps

by Draconien on 5/7/22MTELUS - Montreal

When a band says "we're going to play a song from our new album", we all cringe. One guy screamed " we don't care". I have to say that I didn't know all the songs they played, but I loved every second of that show and they are even better live because the cello takes center stage more prominently than in the albums

    A-MAZING!

by Lexi on 5/6/22Big Night Live - Boston

Lacuna Coil never disappoints, love them. This was my first time seeing Apocalyptica and I think I spent most of the show with my jaw hanging in awe of their talent. The only things I can critique is that the floor was so sticky that it felt like quicksand... and I aat
