About

For 30 years Anthrax has been bringing the noise and treating ticket buyers to aggressive, fist-pumping music. Blistering guitars and double-pedal drums are only the beginning. Anthrax combines elements of punk, funk, hardcore and rap into their sound, and its stage presence on tour is more frat party run amuck and less fire and brimstone metal. The band’s use of humor sets them apart from their contemporaries as Scott Ian, typically dressed for an Anthrax concert in shorts and t-shirt, looks like he should be on a surfboard or at the skate park. Their newest LP Worship Music was released in 2011 debuted at No. 12 on the Billboard 200.

Anthrax’s story began in 1981, when the guitarist Scott Ian and then bassist Danny Lilker looked through a biology textbook in search of a moniker for their New York City thrash-metal band. Classic 1980s albums Fistful of Metal and Spreading the Disease cemented Anthrax’s signature stomp and crush sound, churning up mosh pits and sending waves of concert goers into a head-banging frenzy. Anthrax’s biggest crossover hit is “Bring the Noise,” a 1991 collaboration with Pubic Enemy. Not only did this metal/rap hybrid get serious airtime on MTV, but it is also credited for being a genre-defining moment in music and setting the groundwork for a genre known as “nu metal.” Artists are still giving a shout out to the seminal song; this is best illustrated in M.I.A.’s new album “Matangi,” which has a song tilted “Bring the Noize.” The crossover hit from the 1990s is still crossing over today — and the band is still as great as they've ever been.

    Among the living with Anthrax...Unbelievable

by NEO1973 on 4/7/13House of Blues Chicago - Chicago

What can I say. Anthrax is one of my favorite bands and Among the Living my favorite album. Amazing. I've been waiting for this show for over 20 years. The sound exceptional at house of blues this evening. Charlie's Drumming was right on...and Joey hadn't lost a step in his voice. Scott's metal trash guitar sound was brutal! May Anthrax live on forever!

    Great Show!!

by TAB22 on 3/27/13House of Blues San Diego - San Diego

Anthrax was just plain AWESOME! They are fun to watch and to listen to, a truly great show. And this is one band, that in concert, play their songs just as they sound on their albums, something that a lot of bands don't. Anytime Anthrax comes to play, I will be there. These guys are just outstanding in concert. They played the whole "Among The Living" album which is by far their best, plus a few newer songs which were very good as well. I love this band in concert. Exodus was the band that played before Anthrax. I have been a big fan of this band for the last 10 years or so. I mean I freakin' love their albums and play the hell out of them all the time. A very underrated band. I had never seen them in concert before so I was looking very forward to seeing them for the 1st time. Overall, I was kind of disappointed. Their set list was VERY disappointing. Of the 8 songs they played, 4 of them were from their 1st album and another from a very early album. I wasn't a fan of the band in their early days because their music was uninventive and run of the mill thrash, nothing special or unique, yet this is the majority of what they played and I wasn't impressed, in fact, I was a little bored. They played only 3 songs from the last 10 years which is BY FAR, their best material from them and some of the best metal produced in the last 10 years in my opinion. They should have played more of the newer material because it is vastly superior and a lot of the people at the concert weren't even born when the early music came out. Also, their sound was muffled and a little weak. I don't know if this was due to their equipment or because the House Of Blues typically has poor sound. I missed the first two bands so cannot comment on them. Lastly, this concert was at the House Of Blues. This is a very small venue and the placed was packed solid. It was very difficult to move around and many people had blocked views of the stage. Plus the sound at this place totally sucks. I cannot understand why metal band play at this venue, It SUCKS. It is especially confusing because San Diego has so many better and bigger places bands could play

i have zero interest in seeing anthrax fronted by joey belladonna aka heavy metal wonder woman. this band stepped up their game and did their best work with john bush, imo. i won't see them until bush is back and belladonna gets the boot.

We have travelled to Michigan and Ohio to see this tour so we were very happy when it finally came to our hometown of Toronto. We would follow these bands anywhere but the crowd in Toronto was amazing!!!

    Metal Thrashing Mad

by pnkfloyd22 on 2/2/11Hard Rock Live - Orlando

Well first of all they blew the roof off of that place. They were the opener for Megadeth and Slayer but to put them as an opening band is an insult but someone has to go first. THey played all of my favorites, They got a new drummer since Rocklahoma and Joey Belladona is back!!

Thank god they dumped Dan Nelson

by madmaxfan on 7/26/09Rocklahoma - pryor

Anthrax headlined Thursday night at Rocklahoma and what a dissapointment they were. The band was fairly tight but Dan Nelson was just an idiot onstage. Just begging the crowd to cheer for him stomping around with his chest all puffed out. Not to mention I would classify him a 3rd rate Phil Anselmo wanna be. Bring back Bush permantly. Whatever he wants give it to him. I love Anthrax but this was painful to watch. I can only hope the make the right decision and kiss and make up with John Bush
