About

For 30 years Anthrax has been bringing the noise and treating ticket buyers to aggressive, fist-pumping music. Blistering guitars and double-pedal drums are only the beginning. Anthrax combines elements of punk, funk, hardcore and rap into their sound, and its stage presence on tour is more frat party run amuck and less fire and brimstone metal. The band’s use of humor sets them apart from their contemporaries as Scott Ian, typically dressed for an Anthrax concert in shorts and t-shirt, looks like he should be on a surfboard or at the skate park. Their newest LP Worship Music was released in 2011 debuted at No. 12 on the Billboard 200.

Anthrax’s story began in 1981, when the guitarist Scott Ian and then bassist Danny Lilker looked through a biology textbook in search of a moniker for their New York City thrash-metal band. Classic 1980s albums Fistful of Metal and Spreading the Disease cemented Anthrax’s signature stomp and crush sound, churning up mosh pits and sending waves of concert goers into a head-banging frenzy. Anthrax’s biggest crossover hit is “Bring the Noise,” a 1991 collaboration with Pubic Enemy. Not only did this metal/rap hybrid get serious airtime on MTV, but it is also credited for being a genre-defining moment in music and setting the groundwork for a genre known as “nu metal.” Artists are still giving a shout out to the seminal song; this is best illustrated in M.I.A.’s new album “Matangi,” which has a song tilted “Bring the Noize.” The crossover hit from the 1990s is still crossing over today — and the band is still as great as they've ever been.

    Not so among the living

by Stuee on 4/14/13House of Blues Orlando - Orlando

It was my first time at the House of Blues and I was not disappointed . Although the support bands were good I would liked to have seen Exodus. Anthrax came on missing guitarist Scot Ian. That at times left some of the meatier song with something missing. Overall the rest of the band did there best too take in the slake and did there best to give the fans a good show. So overall the show was good, I don't feel I got the full Among the Living experience.

    unforgetable

by Yu5aku on 4/14/13House of Blues Orlando - Orlando

I came to see Anthrax, but was very satisfied seeing Holy Grail. Municipal waste was pretty good also. This concert was everything a metal concert should be and it was very cool seeing a wall of death for the first time. Though Scott Ian had food poisoning and was out for the night, Anthrax still blew the roof sky high with only one guitarist. The ONLY reason im giving it four stars instead of five is because they did NOT play Among the Living in it's entirety. The played every song but left out Imitation of Life which was a little disappointing but really not too big of a deal.

    Good and Bad

by keicor on 4/14/13House of Blues Orlando - Orlando

I was disappointed at the lack of Exodus as well as the missing band from the tour, then Scott Ian calls out sick! Other than that, all three bands thrashed it hard. Enjoyed the hell out of Municipal Waste

    Not the same without Ian

by TattooTodd on 4/14/13House of Blues Orlando - Orlando

Overall, the venue was intimate and clean. The opening bands were good and the time frame of the show was perfect. However, Scott Ian is Anthrax, he has wrote most of their music and lyrics. If I had known that Scot Ian was not going to be performing with the rest of Anthrax, because he was ill, I would have never spent $70 on tickets. I have seen Anthrax live three other times and it is just not the same without Scott. I am disappointed to pay full price to see 75% of a band.

    Rocked

by Anonymous on 4/14/13House of Blues Orlando - Orlando

Anthrax once again put on a great show, that is why I will never miss them when they come to town. Although Scott wasn't playing (hope he is feeling better) the show went on without skipping a beat. It was also great to see the young and older crowd getting into the show, it was one big party! It was also great to see the band pay tribute to 2 fallin metal soldiers, Dio and Dimebag Darryl. Hats off to the guys once again for coming through, staying grounded and delivering the same high dose of metal medicine that we all need! Scott, we look forward to seeing you next time when you don't have the runs! Feel better you metal maniac! Metallica could learn something from this band!

    No Exodus or Scotty

by theroo on 4/14/13House of Blues Orlando - Orlando

although everyone that showed did an amazing job, the show was definitely missing Scott's animated stage presence and musical depth. Also, I was really looking forward to seeing Exodus again, since I haven't seen them since '89-'90. that was a huge disappointment when we arrived to find out they weren't even scheduled to make this show.

    metal alliance flop

by hilario on 4/14/13House of Blues Orlando - Orlando

Can't quite understand why they would book a show at the house of blues when two of the band's on the tour are banned from there made absolutely no sense to me! Then Scott Ian is a no show at that point I just wanted my money back and that is a hard thing for me to say because I am one of the biggest anthrax fans on the planet!!!

    On with the show...

by Malice719 on 4/14/13House of Blues Orlando - Orlando

Even though "the Mouse" has some vendetta against Exodus, refusing to let them play at House of Blues Orlando, it was still a good show. Holy Grail started the night off with a good solid rocking set. Nothing extraordinary, but a good solid set (I will pick up the cd). Next up was Municipal Waste. These guys killed it! I love humor in metal...and this band delivered that. Got the crowd going and the pit warmed up. They had some great Merch too! Anthrax members came out to inform the crowd that Scott Ian was in the hospital with food poisoning and would not be performing. They decided that rather than cancel a show, they would play on as a four piece. Now keep in mind that the other guitar player, Jonathan Donais of Shadows Fall, isn't an official member and is just helping on the tour. Nonetheless, the band carried on and the crowd definitely enjoyed the show. The set list was short by a couple songs...no March of the S.O.D. or I'm the Man....really bummed by that. Overall a really good show, just a bit disappointed especially after forking out $35 for the show. But I give two horns up to Anthrax for going on with the show.

I was excited when this show was announced because of all the quality bands that were on the show. And for the price, it was an amazing bargain. Municipal Waste.....outstanding High on Fire......there's no word for these guys...intense....the whole place vibrated with their music....so awesome.. Exodus....they were fun. Anthrax......Joey Belladonna is the man! These guys are the coolest... I love seeing shows at the Fillmore (I will always call it the State), this show had a great vibe to it...the crowd was into it..... major kudos all around....

    Great show, except one band

by Kirkmonster on 4/9/13Bogart's - Cincinnati

Anthrax and Exodus knocked it out of the park! Great performance by both. Municipal Waste and Holy Grail also were excellent. High On Fire, however, sounded like one long fuzzed power chord. No vocals, bass or drums could be heard over the guitar. If I didn't know the songs, their set would have been completely pointless.

    80's thrash at it's finest!!

by DanTheManCross on 4/9/13House of Blues Chicago - Chicago

I had never seen Anthrax, and boy was it worth it Friday night at the Chicago House of Blues!! I didn't see the first 2-3 bands (High on Fire, Municipal Waste, Holy Grail) and I wasn't all too familiar with them. But I arrived right on time for Exodus to take the stage. This is a band who predates larger thrash metal icons such as Megadeth and Metallica. They did not disappoint! It was good to see long time Exodus members Gary Holt and Tom Hunting still have what it takes to play at such a high standard after all these years. Lead singer Rob Dukes was pretty on point through the whole perfromance. Not a very mobile frontman but he still sounded amazing. Dukes even went as far as to try and antagonise the Chicago crowd into forming an even more insane mosh pit than there already was! Now onto our main eventers, Anthrax! I'll start off with the frontman Joey Belladonna. God does this guy even age?! He's 52 years old and moves around that stage like a 20 year old! He sounds amazing too! Deffinately one of the most underrated frontmen in rock & roll! Charlie Benante was pounding hard as ever on his drums and didn't miss a beat, Franky Bello and Scott Ian were very energetic and entertaining to watch, and the replacement guitarists for Rob Caggiano (who I am honestly not familiar with) hit his solos to the "T". It was very pleasing to see a tribute done to Dimebag Darrel Abbot and Ronnie James Dio, 2 metal legends who are sadly no longer with us. An even better surprise was a cover of AC/DC's 'T.N.T'! 'I'm the Man' and 'Antisocial' were done in the encore performance. I'll say in closing, of all the "Big 4" thrash metal bands Anthrax may not have Megadeth's technique, or Metallica's fame, or Slayers ferocity, but they are deffinately the most entertaining of the 4! I highly recommend seeing them live!

    Rise up

by Anonymous on 4/8/13House of Blues Chicago - Chicago

When I got there, Anthrax was finishing up, and then I saw Holy Grail, who were alright, I guess. Then High on Fire played. Their instruments were more distorted than the other two bands that I saw. The band seemed to subdue the audience under the influence of their rhythm. So the distortion and rhythm from High on FIre kept everyone awake during their playing. I then left the House of Blues due to tiredness.
