Anthony Hamilton Background

Before getting his Grammy and churning out hits like "Charlene" and "Can't Let Go," Anthony Hamilton started singing from a young age and got his start in the church choir. Hamilton was born on January 28th, 1971, and is a native of Charlotte, North Carolina -- a core influence of his Southern neo-soul musical style. Hamilton also draws his musical influences from R&B greats, including Michael Jackson. After moving to New York City in the 1990s and moving between record labels, Hamilton finally created a name for himself with his fourth album in 2003, which featured the musical hit "Charlene." Hamilton's influence extends beyond music into the public sphere through his speaking and advocacy opportunities as a CASA spokesperson, which allows him to raise awareness about the foster care system.

    She's just a woman and I'm a Super Man.

by Booster on 7/3/09Florida Theatre Jacksonville - Jacksonville

It is quite obvious that Anthony was raised in the church. I have never missed a concert of his. He sincerely gives reverence to Jesus for all that he has accomplished and I love dude for this. His music is relational yet spiritual at the same time. His concerts does'nt really need a preceeding act. However I was a little dissapointed that the concert didn't last longer.

    Back to the Old Days

by csgirl on 7/3/09Florida Theatre Jacksonville - Jacksonville

The concert reminded me of a time where music was genuine and soulful, women were considered as ladies, and men took pride in being gentleman. The concert was sold out and the audience was filled with sophisticates ready for entertainment. We enjoyed the interplay between Mr. Hamilton and the audience. Even with a bum knee, Mr. Hamilton put his heart and soul into this concert. I was a little disappointed in the sound and feedback that was a constant irritation during the concert. It seems that Mr. Hamilton felt the same. In my humble opinion, it is time for Mr. Hamilton's team to produce an updated DVD and nominate Jacksonville, FL as the venue for that concert.

    Anthony Hamilton

by Tuckie on 7/3/09Florida Theatre Jacksonville - Jacksonville

Anthony is an excellent performer. I attend his concerts every time he comes to or near Jacksonville. However, Jacksonville get's the short end of the stick. We never get to see the scheduled performers touring with the highligted artist. I would have loved to see the other artist on tour with Anthony. Sincerely, Tuckie

Hamilton has a great sense of humor

by Shelly on 7/3/09Florida Theatre Jacksonville - Jacksonville

Excellent singer. The music at times drown him out. He has a great sense of humor and he is just too handsome. I would have thought so before the fame and fortune came alone and that's what counts.

    Best Live Performer

by jrzymimi on 7/3/09Florida Theatre Jacksonville - Jacksonville

Anthony Hamilton concert was just soulful that was laced with your daddy's brown liquor!! His voice is his instrument and it was an Aria in the Florida Theater. You heard gospel, folk and soul all in 2 hours and 30 minutes. It took me on ride that I didn't want to disembark....folks let me introduce your to our generation's Soul Man.

    Anthony Hamilton did his thang!

by MizzVron on 7/3/09Florida Theatre Jacksonville - Jacksonville

Absolutely impressive! It was my first time seeing him live and even though I have always loved his music, I did not know that he was so cool and such a great performer. He really put on a show, even with a bum leg. Crutch and cane on stage and he still put it down! Would love to see him again after his surgery to see him dance like he wanted to. =)

    Show good/Venue Terrrible!

by mama26 on 7/3/09Florida Theatre Jacksonville - Jacksonville

Anthony Hamilton is a wonderful singer and talent. I was looking forward to the show, unfortunately we got tickets late and that affected the whole show! We had seats in the balcony and never were able to hear or see the show for longer than 30 second intervals. There are no screens or speakers to be able to enjoy anything that is going on down stage. There was no opening act, even though it had been rumored Musiq Child may be there as well. The show was short, but again Anthony was great from the few moments we actually were not blocked from seeing him by late arrivers and rude people. Venue was the problem!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Anthony Hamilton rocked the Florida Theatre!!!

by Keinue on 7/3/09Florida Theatre Jacksonville - Jacksonville

I enjoyed the entire show. Mr. Hamiliton did not need anyone to co-star on his concert. He performed better than most that I have seen in a long time. If he came back to Jacksonville or anywhere close... I WILL BE THERE

    Anthony Hamilton was fantastic!!!

by Jerrod78 on 7/3/09Florida Theatre Jacksonville - Jacksonville

Omg I could not believe how good he was...I did not think he had all that in him. He actually sounds just as good in person as he does on his album. The show was awesome from beginning to end even though he was in some pain from a knee injury. He really connected with the audience at one time he even came off the stage. Wow, the singing, dancing, and clapping it all was great. I definitely got what I paid for and more.

Slow at first, but awesome overall.

by Sanchez on 7/3/09Florida Theatre Jacksonville - Jacksonville

The concert started late and his entrance was boring and unoriginal. About 20 minutes into the concert things picked up. Hamilton started interacting with the audience. He brought several women on stage and danced with the them. There were some technical issues which pissed hamilton off. However Anthony's powerful spiritual, soulful voice rocked the audience for 90 minutes. Even with a busted knee he came off stage and danced to a high energy gospel tune. I would certainly attend another anthony hamilton concert, he is humble and gracious while still remaining raw and exciting.

    Anthony Hamilton was unbelievable!!!

by pokkahontas on 7/3/09Florida Theatre Jacksonville - Jacksonville

WOW!!!!! This guy is worth every penny. The set was amazing from start to finish. The sound guy was having some issues and Anthony was visibly disturbed. He thought that it was messing with his stage presence. Mr Hamilton, I am here to tell you it did not phase your performance one bit as far as I was concerned. You are one of the best voices I have heard in a long time. It is great to find an artist that appreciates his music so much. He put his all into that performance and it showed. I loved it and would gladly go see him anywhere, anytime!!!! This was my first time seeing him live and it will not be my last!!! Kudos Anthony Hamilton!!!! Awesome show!!!
