About

Anjelah Johnson-Reyes was born and raised in San Jose, California where she grew up with four siblings in a large extended family to which she remains close. She embarked upon her career as a professional cheerleader for the Oakland Raiders at the age of 20 and performed at Super Bowl XXXVII where she was named the "Rookie of the Year." After one year with the team, she decided to move to Hollywood to pursue acting. She began her stand-up career after taking a class on a whim at a local church and realized that she loved it. Just a few months later, Anjelah found herself an internet sensation and pioneer in viral YouTube videos when her notorious "Nail Salon" bit from a local comedy show was posted and received over 100 million views! Shortly thereafter she was added to the cast on the original MADtv where she trademarked her legendary character, Bon Qui Qui. Similar to the nail salon video, the Bon Qui Qui sketch caught on and have been viewed by over 75 million people.

The multi-hyphenates' popularity has translated into six successful comedy specials: "That's How We Do It", "The Homecoming Show", "Not Fancy" and "Mahalo & Good Night", "Technically Not Stalking", and "Say I Won't."  She has displayed her acting prowess both on TV and film. Some of her credits include: "Life & Beth", "Curb Your Enthusiasm," "Superstore," "Moms' Night Out," and "Alvin & the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel."

The past 18 months have been busy for Anjelah.  She published her first book, "Who Do I Think I Am: Stories of Chola Wishes and Caviar Dreams" (Worthy Books), a hilarious and touching memoir full of memorable anecdotes on how a Latina dynamo was able to forge ahead and become successful.  She also was front and center competing on Fox's dance competition show "The Real Dirty Dancing" and performed at the "Netflix is a Joke - Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin: Live Gala" which is currently streaming on Netflix.  In addition, Anjelah launched her wildly successful and sold out "Who Do I Think I Am?" standup comedy tour across the U.S. encompassed over 75+ cities across North America.

Over the coming year, Anjelah's book "Who Do I Think I Am: Stories of Chola Wishes and Caviar Dreams" will be published in paperback and she is releasing her 6th comedy special, "Anjelah Johnson-Reyes: Say I Won't" on Sunday, May 14th. She also will be starring Amazon Prime Video's holiday comedy Candy Cane Lane alongside Eddie Murphy, Tracee Ellis Ross, Jillian Bell, Genneya Walton, Thaddeus J. Mixson, Robin Thede, Chris Redd, and Danielle Pinnock.

Anjelah and her husband are expecting their first child summer of 2023 and when not on the road, split their time between Los Angeles and Nashville with their dog, Banzo.

    I LOVED her!

by albertindallas on 10/25/10House of Blues Dallas - Dallas

She was absolutely fabulous!!! I thoroughly enjoyed her routine. The guy that opened for her was very funny, too! There were a couple of obnoxious drunks in the audience that deflected from the experience, but I guess that's to be expected in this setting.

The show was amazing! - although it was running a little late due to some thunderstorms in Dallas I would so do it all over again. One of the funniest parts she mentioned was the "Chola" kit - it bring back memories that she sho' wasnt lying!.... True roots we all can live by hehe... We love you in Dallas Anjelah; p.s. "dont wear your house shoes outside the house; you may just end up on a date to buy a chicken taco with sour cream". lol xoxo

    Anjelah was great!

by naanaamoreno on 10/24/10House of Blues Houston - Houston

The comedy was great! Anjelah and the dude who went on before her (Jeff?) were funny! I love House of Blues but they should definitely add more seating for a comedy performance. When we bought our tickets it said nothing about standing room only and I didn't know until I called to see where our seats were that we were going to be standing. But overall the show was great! Will for sure be there next time she comes to town!

    Anjelah was her-lar-ri-ous!

by RGBuzz on 10/24/10House of Blues Houston - Houston

Anjelah came about the box ready to make people laugh. She had my wife and I cracking up the whole time. Her beat-boxing was incredible! I was ready to get up and start dancing - that good! The only bad thing about the show was some of the crowd. There were a handful of people who kept yelling for her to do her old routines - the Asian nail salon and a couple others. Anjelah, right away, asked them to calm down and wait. But these people were relentless. She even threatened to cut her act short. But she went on with her new material, which was great. I especially thought her showing everyone her merchandise at the end of the show was smart and funny. Who does that?! Also, can't remember his name, the opening act was just as good. That was guy was hilarious.

    Hilarious!

by random7820 on 10/24/10House of Blues Houston - Houston

Not only was Anjelah hilarious - her comedy wasn't filled with profanity. So many comics have to excessively curse to be funny. NOT HER! Great show!
