About

Anjelah Johnson-Reyes was born and raised in San Jose, California where she grew up with four siblings in a large extended family to which she remains close. She embarked upon her career as a professional cheerleader for the Oakland Raiders at the age of 20 and performed at Super Bowl XXXVII where she was named the "Rookie of the Year." After one year with the team, she decided to move to Hollywood to pursue acting. She began her stand-up career after taking a class on a whim at a local church and realized that she loved it. Just a few months later, Anjelah found herself an internet sensation and pioneer in viral YouTube videos when her notorious "Nail Salon" bit from a local comedy show was posted and received over 100 million views! Shortly thereafter she was added to the cast on the original MADtv where she trademarked her legendary character, Bon Qui Qui. Similar to the nail salon video, the Bon Qui Qui sketch caught on and have been viewed by over 75 million people.

The multi-hyphenates' popularity has translated into six successful comedy specials: "That's How We Do It", "The Homecoming Show", "Not Fancy" and "Mahalo & Good Night", "Technically Not Stalking", and "Say I Won't."  She has displayed her acting prowess both on TV and film. Some of her credits include: "Life & Beth", "Curb Your Enthusiasm," "Superstore," "Moms' Night Out," and "Alvin & the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel."

The past 18 months have been busy for Anjelah.  She published her first book, "Who Do I Think I Am: Stories of Chola Wishes and Caviar Dreams" (Worthy Books), a hilarious and touching memoir full of memorable anecdotes on how a Latina dynamo was able to forge ahead and become successful.  She also was front and center competing on Fox's dance competition show "The Real Dirty Dancing" and performed at the "Netflix is a Joke - Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin: Live Gala" which is currently streaming on Netflix.  In addition, Anjelah launched her wildly successful and sold out "Who Do I Think I Am?" standup comedy tour across the U.S. encompassed over 75+ cities across North America.

Over the coming year, Anjelah's book "Who Do I Think I Am: Stories of Chola Wishes and Caviar Dreams" will be published in paperback and she is releasing her 6th comedy special, "Anjelah Johnson-Reyes: Say I Won't" on Sunday, May 14th. She also will be starring Amazon Prime Video's holiday comedy Candy Cane Lane alongside Eddie Murphy, Tracee Ellis Ross, Jillian Bell, Genneya Walton, Thaddeus J. Mixson, Robin Thede, Chris Redd, and Danielle Pinnock.

Anjelah and her husband are expecting their first child summer of 2023 and when not on the road, split their time between Los Angeles and Nashville with their dog, Banzo.

Terrible parking garage, slow elevators, smokey casino! Anjelah Johnson is a great talent, and should have a better venue!

    Anjelah is so funny!

    by Mauy on 2/1/11Snoqualmie Casino-Ballroom - Snoqualmie

I can't remember the name of the opening comedian, but he was actually just as funny as Anjelah. Anjelah put on a great show, she helped me forget about life and just have a good time. It would have been nice if her merchandise was sold before the show as well as after. I would have bought several nail files, and a couple of t-shirts for some friends, but didn't want to wait in the long line.

    Anjelah can do for you.

    by rcagolfer on 1/31/11Snoqualmie Casino-Ballroom - Snoqualmie

Well done and charismatic. She did all of her famous Youtube hits and her warm up guy was very funny. Of course as is the case so much of the time now a days I could have done without the two disgustingly obese women who chatted it up most of the show.

totally funny a good time i love her the only downside was i wasnt able to purchase any of her stuff the line was totally disorganized and trying to leave the ballroom was awful due to the fact that her merch table was right out front it was not a totaly thought out idea other then that she herself was amazing i cant wait til she comes back deff will see her again!!

It was just okay. Too much new stuff that wasn't as funny as what she's known for in all the YouTube stuff.

    by uwChiOmega on 1/31/11Snoqualmie Casino-Ballroom - Snoqualmie

Even after Youtubing almost every Anjelah Johnson comedy skit...I'm happy to say that 98% of her jokes were new to me. Love her.

    Anjelah's great!

    by 5grandchildren on 1/31/11Snoqualmie Casino-Ballroom - Snoqualmie

We laughed non-stop. Could have listened to Anjelah for another hour straight! We're teachers in a multiracial area, so we could relate to lots of her scenarios. Good "warm-up" comedian also. Unexpectedly funny.

    Great show!

This was the second time that I went to Anjelah Johnson's show. She is still as funny as the first time I saw her. I laughed so hard, I was crying. If you've never seen her live, I would highly recommend doing it at least once. You won't regret it.

I was rolling at Angelah Johnson's comedy show!!!!

by RaquiFergie on 10/27/10House of Blues Dallas - Dallas

I would have to start by saying I would go see her again! I HAD A BLAST!!! I got to sit up close and the seating was good. I was surprised that she didn't do all of her onine stuff. Although, she did do 60% of it she kinda remixed it a little bit to keep the viewers on their toes! It was even funnier to see her in person. She was so layed back and she connected with the audience. The venue (HofB) wasn't bad at all. The drinks at the bar were on point. By the way, the guy that opened up for her was hilarious, as well. I would have to say I was definitely entertained the whole time and this is a must see show!

    No t-shirt for me :0(

by shortyg on 10/26/10House of Blues Houston - Houston

Seats were hard to find and there was no emplyee willing to help. The show was good but very disapointed to have to wait in line for too long to find out I just didn't make the cut to buy a t-shirt and take a picture with Angelah. Soooo upset.

    Anjelah doesn't disappoint

by BlueStarr2 on 10/25/10House of Blues Houston - Houston

Anjelah Johnson is known for her signature characters and the crowd wants to hear Bon Qui Qui and The Nail Salon lady. Anjelah doesn't disappoint. Puts her old stand bys in new surroundings. I won't be able to look at SW Airlines flight attendants without thinking of the Nail Salon Lady and Bon Qui Qui.

You HAVE to see Anjelah! Amazing!

by NMR1215 on 10/25/10House of Blues Dallas - Dallas

Loved every minute of it, wish it had lasted a little longer and that I hadn't of bought "standing room only" seats...but can't complain about anything that Anjelah did!

by slpw on 10/25/10House of Blues Houston - Houston

We loved the venue and the concert. My tickets actually said 7pm on them and I didn't notice it till we got there for the "late" show, but we had SRO tix and they didn't say a word about it!!

Anjelah Rocked The House of Blues

by Camill40 on 10/25/10House of Blues Dallas - Dallas

This girl is so funny and clearly "nails" all ethnic groups equally well without offending. She is so funny and talented. She did all my favorite routines! It was a great show!!
