About

Andrew Bird is an internationally acclaimed, Grammy-nominated multi-instrumentalist, vocalist, whistler, and songwriter who picked up his first violin at the age of four and spent his formative years soaking up classical repertoire completely by ear. Since beginning his recording career in 1997, Bird has released 17 albums and performed extensively across the globe. He has recorded with the Preservation Hall Jazz Band, appeared as "Dr. Stringz" on Jack's Big Music Show, and headlined concerts at Carnegie Hall, Sydney Opera House, Walt Disney Concert Hall, and festivals worldwide.

Bird performed as the Whistling Caruso in Disney's The Muppets movie, scored the FX series Baskets, and collaborated with inventor Ian Schneller on Sonic Arboretum, an installation that exhibited at New York's Guggenheim Museum, Boston's ICA, and the MCA Chicago. Bird has been a featured TED Talks presenter, a New Yorker Festival guest, and an op-ed contributor for the New York Times.

More recently, Bird released a series of site-specific improvisational short films and recordings called Echolocations, recorded in remote and acoustically interesting spaces: a Utah canyon, an abandoned seaside bunker, the middle of the Los Angeles River, and a reverberant stone-covered aqueduct in Lisbon. Additionally, Bird hosts an ongoing series of live-streamed performances called Live from the Great Room, putting the creative process on display for fans as he collaborates and converses with friends in a candid, intimate setting.

Shortly after receiving his 2020 Grammy nomination for Best Folk Album, with My Finest Work Yet, Andrew Bird made his professional acting debut in the cast of Fargo's fourth installment, which concluded on FX in November 2020 and is currently streaming via Hulu. In March 2021, Bird released his latest project, These 13, an album entirely co-written and recorded with his longtime friend and former Squirrel Nut Zippers collaborator, Jimbo Mathus. Captured live to tape, just the two of them playing and singing from opposite sides of a microphone, These 13 marked the first set of new music that Bird and Mathus created together in more than 20 years.

    SPECTACULAR IN EVERY WAY

    by S. O. on 10/5/22Orpheum Theater - New Orleans

OMG, I knew I'd love both Iron & Wine and Andrew Bird, but I had NO IDEA how much! If I could give them a hundred stars I would. Genius at work. Hope they come back together, but I'd see either of them on their own. Great show.

    Fabulous

by MT on 10/5/22Orpheum Theater - New Orleans

The venue is great - the opener (Iron & Wine) was great. Andrew Bird is one of the greatest talents alive today. The only thing that I would say is that I wish there was more. We were supposed to see him in New Orleans before, but he cancelled that part of his tour for another project. I would have loved to see that show too. It was a real treat and I will do it again the next time he performs nearby! I hope he will come back more frequently. <3

    Artist and venue were perfect

by Ray on 9/26/22The Van Buren - Phoenix

The Van Buren is one of my favorite venues to see a show in Phoenix. I am a long time Iron and Wine fan and because of Sam Beam I only recently discovered Andrew Bird. He is now on my list of favorite artists! Seeing him live is a must. Hope they return to the Van Buren. I will be there.

    Andrew Bird/Iron & Wine - El Cajon

by Dissappointed on 9/25/22The Magnolia - El Cajon

After playing most of the new album (understandable) and only one standout song (Sisyphus), Mr. Bird brought Iron & Wine on stage and they sang numerous Iron & Wine songs instead of playing Andrew Bird songs that the fans surely would have loved - Roma Fade, Bloodless, Fiery Crash, Capsized, etc. So, for the price of my tickets and waiting 9 months (including an unannounced/noticed 3-month postponement) I get 60% Andrew Bird and 40% Iron and Wine plus Iron and Wine as an opener.

    Amazing

by Edixpx on 9/25/22The Magnolia - El Cajon

This show was fantastic. The venue is so accessible, parking a breeze, drink lines moved fast, I loved having a seat. The line up was incredible and these two musicians (iron and wine & Andrew Bird) were beyond impressive. Class act all the way around. My only complaint was the crowd was too mellow. No standing, no singing along.

    Andrew Bird

by Joyce on 8/13/22Chesterfield Amphitheater - Chesterfield

VERY talented guy (different instruments and amazing whistling) with a good group. Iron & Wine was really good too - liked his interaction with the audience.

    Fantastic show. Great venue.

by DreaT on 8/13/22Chesterfield Amphitheater - Chesterfield

This was my first time at Chesterfield Amphitheater and it far exceeded my expectations. Can't wait to see another show there! Andrew Bird and Iron and wine were both amazing, as always. And seeing them perform together was awesome. Couldn't have asked for a better show.

    Awesome

Do I need say to say more? I think “awesome” quite covers it.

It was good, but parking was BAD.

by Music Person 69 on 8/9/22TCU Amphitheater at White River State Park - Indianapolis

We did our due little diligence before the show to make sure we knew what our parking options are. Unfortunately, all of the parking cost $20. This wasn’t mentioned online on any website or venue page. Also the only available venue parking was an actual mile away from the venu after they prematurely closed the standard lots once they were a whopping 20% full. From an accessibility standpoint, this is an unforgivable nightmare.

Great venue but bag policy is silly

by Bergbrew on 8/9/22TCU Amphitheater at White River State Park - Indianapolis

Everything was great about this experience except the ridiculous bag policy at the gate. You can bring in a giant 12x12" bag as long as it's clear otherwise your bag can be no larger than a 4x6" notecard. You can take it back to your car or check it for $5. So instead of them paying and training people to properly screen bags you pay them to hold your bag for you. They probably made $5,000 off the bag check alone. Asked the guy at the gate why and he just said "corporate policy, take it up with them." What a weak stance and poor experience. You wonder why people aren't going to concerts, there were probably 50 seats empty around me.

A wet blanket + high performer + sound blast

by Eric on 8/7/22PNC PAVILION - Cincinnati

The opener was a wet blanket that played low-tempo, discordant songs with unclear vocals. That was the energy-draining start to this concert. Then Iron & Wine came out and was clearly high on something. He repeatedly asked the back of the house to turn down the lights a bit. He was extremely talented when he was playing, but he also repeatedly messed up songs and had long rambling interludes that became less funny as they went on. It wasn't the carthartic contrast I was hoping for after the opener and it felt crappy that Iron & Wine didn't really show up professionally... Andrew Bird started out really strong with great sound and an interesting, up-tempo song. Something I would expect of a professional performer. To no fault of his own, the sound system blew up in a mess of loud, jarring feedback. This sonic bomb finished after a bit and the stunned band tried to finish the song, though the mixing was understandably screwed up. They continued their set and played well, if a bit muted. I still left halfway through. I kept giving the entire concert experience the benefit of the doubt, but I was too jarred to stay.

    Genuine Talent

by Alaina on 8/7/22PNC PAVILION - Cincinnati

Real to the core, talent to the moon and lift you off to another place as the two artists complimented each other in tonality and skill. Honored to have witnessed the evening.

Andrew Bird was amazing as always.

    by J. M. on 8/1/22The Rooftop at Pier 17 - New York

Andrew Bird has never disappointed. He is an amazing talent, his supporting band is great (particularly Ted Poor in drums), and it was a great performance. I was not expecting to enjoy Iron & Wine as much as I did. He was funny and a pleasant surprise.

    Phenomenal performer

by musetunes on 8/1/22The Rooftop at Pier 17 - New York

Third time I've seen Andrew Bird and he never disappoints. Innovative like David Byrne but definitely his own person. Michelle ndigacello was also amazing. Iron and wine was a bit of a flop.

    Absolutely incredible

by Megan on 7/31/22Ting Pavilion - Charlottesville

I knew I always loved his music, but until you see how effortless and perfect it is in person, and can’t really know! It was breathtaking to experience, and the fact that Sam being played with him and they shared songs together, oh my word!

    Incredible Experience

    by J. F. on 7/30/22

From all three acts… Andrew Bird, Iron & Wine and Meshell Ndegeocello, the performances were incredible. 5 stars across the board. The control each of these artists (and their bands) had over their vocals were to die for. We loved the entire show. Without a doubt go see these folks.

    Just my opinion-

by AK on 7/30/22Ting Pavilion - Charlottesville

Loved the first part of the show and the songs shared with Sam (Iron and Wine) but the end of the show fell flat for me. Songs were many we were not as familiar with and in my opinion, not the best, most engaging songs for a live show. I was really hoping to hear Nervous Tic Motion live . . . The bass player and drummer were both amazing. The bass players vocals really added to the overall performance.
