About

Andrew Bird is an internationally acclaimed, Grammy-nominated multi-instrumentalist, vocalist, whistler, and songwriter who picked up his first violin at the age of four and spent his formative years soaking up classical repertoire completely by ear. Since beginning his recording career in 1997, Bird has released 17 albums and performed extensively across the globe. He has recorded with the Preservation Hall Jazz Band, appeared as "Dr. Stringz" on Jack's Big Music Show, and headlined concerts at Carnegie Hall, Sydney Opera House, Walt Disney Concert Hall, and festivals worldwide.

Bird performed as the Whistling Caruso in Disney's The Muppets movie, scored the FX series Baskets, and collaborated with inventor Ian Schneller on Sonic Arboretum, an installation that exhibited at New York's Guggenheim Museum, Boston's ICA, and the MCA Chicago. Bird has been a featured TED Talks presenter, a New Yorker Festival guest, and an op-ed contributor for the New York Times.

More recently, Bird released a series of site-specific improvisational short films and recordings called Echolocations, recorded in remote and acoustically interesting spaces: a Utah canyon, an abandoned seaside bunker, the middle of the Los Angeles River, and a reverberant stone-covered aqueduct in Lisbon. Additionally, Bird hosts an ongoing series of live-streamed performances called Live from the Great Room, putting the creative process on display for fans as he collaborates and converses with friends in a candid, intimate setting.

Shortly after receiving his 2020 Grammy nomination for Best Folk Album, with My Finest Work Yet, Andrew Bird made his professional acting debut in the cast of Fargo's fourth installment, which concluded on FX in November 2020 and is currently streaming via Hulu. In March 2021, Bird released his latest project, These 13, an album entirely co-written and recorded with his longtime friend and former Squirrel Nut Zippers collaborator, Jimbo Mathus. Captured live to tape, just the two of them playing and singing from opposite sides of a microphone, These 13 marked the first set of new music that Bird and Mathus created together in more than 20 years.

  • Great but too short!

by EMcG on 8/5/23Rating: 4 out of 5

I love Andrew Bird’s music. It was fantastic to see him perform. The lighting and other special effects were amazing. My one complaint is that I wish the concert would’ve gone longer. Beforehand I had read online that he performs about two hours for concerts and for this performance, he went for an hour and a half. I think it’s probably quite a strain on him to perform with all the whistling that he does, and singing and playing instruments, of course, but I was enjoying the concert soooo much and 1.5 hours in I thought there’d be another half hour, but no, …the end. If there’d been another just 15 to 20 minutes, that would’ve been great.

  • A Beautiful Experience

by Herms on 8/5/23Rating: 5 out of 5

I really enjoyed this concert! My father always played his music during the summer time while my family and I swam. His music created a lot of core memories and being able to see Andrew live was amazing. His music is as lovely as it has always been. I highly suggest going to see him play live because it was amazing.

  • Wonderful Show

by Amy on 8/5/23Rating: 5 out of 5

Andrew Byrd and his fellow musicians are so precise musically and such fantastic live performers. The opener, Uwade, was very cool as well

  • Excellent

by Charly on 7/29/23Rating: 5 out of 5

Definitely Andrew Bird is worth whatever favourable one wants to say about him. His mastery of the violin and the unique style to mix it with his voice, whistling and lyrics makes him one of the best. I’m so satisfied with his presentation.

  • Great people; venue could be improved

by LizB on 7/25/23Rating: 4 out of 5

Andrew Bird performed following opener Uwade. He was joined by Madison Cunningham who added a welcome dimension to an overall excellent performance. My chief criticism is of the looking glass lounge--I incorrectly assumed the stage would be visible from lounge seating. It does not bother me to stand but my companion wanted to sit and that would be a plus. The staff was unfailingly nice. there was a mixup (we entered the wrong door) but it was quickly resolved. Another plus was the convenient and inexpensive parking; we drove from the OC we had some concerns that it could be difficult. I definitely want to return to the Bellwether.

  • Fantastic performance and set list

by VA on 7/24/23Rating: 5 out of 5

Vibrant and excellent performance by Andrew Bird with a fantastic band. The acoustic set was a great break in between with exceptional harmonies. The mix of current and past songs which are among my favorites was wonderful. So glad he played his hometown. His violin playing and whistling were flawless! For coming from very hot Pappy’s last night, he still had great energy. My friends and sister who joined me are now fans. Recommend the balcony at Bellwether.

  • Great Artist and Great Venue

by Erica on 4/20/23MGM Music Hall at Fenway - BostonRating: 5 out of 5

This was my first show at the MGM. The Venue was beautiful and the staff were all great. I enjoyed the VIP lounge prior to the show. Andrew Bird was amazing!!!

  • Exceeded my expectations

by Bobby on 4/16/23MGM Music Hall at Fenway - BostonRating: 5 out of 5

The concert was amazing! From the opening acts to the finale! I’ve listened and enjoyed Andrew Bird for years. During Covid, my wife surprised me with a live streaming performance of him at Christmas. This year, I received actual live concert tickets, for Christmas. It was so much more incredible than I anticipated. My wife has never been as big a fan as I of his music, but after attending his concert she now has a better appreciation of his style and music. Looking forward to seeing him again!

  • Andrew Bird at MGM Music Hall

by BAM on 4/16/23MGM Music Hall at Fenway - BostonRating: 5 out of 5

Easy entry. Beautiful venue. Handicap seating has no place to put drinks or food. Chairs are high and not adjustable. Haven’t been to a concert in years so forgot that there are performers before main event. Andrew Bird did not disappoint. He is a brilliant musician who brings creative newness to music. I have been following him for years . I was happy to see him live.

  • Amazing experience. Very different genre from normal

by Jonas, me- pillar of strength for the artist on 4/16/23MGM Music Hall at Fenway - BostonRating: 5 out of 5

Two songs- titles roughly I that somehow occurred to me first. Carried on to become super hits in Andrew birds albums. Jus to name Lone Didion and Make a picture maybe more Very versatile artist . instrumentalists and singer something I truly enjoyed the kind of concert Opening artists were not just good but exceedingly outperformed. More to attend such concerts in the future

  • Transparency around headliner start time

by Steve on 4/16/23MGM Music Hall at Fenway - BostonRating: 2 out of 5

I bought these tickets under the assumption that doors would open at 8 and Andrew Bird would perform around 9. I only learned at the venue that he wouldn’t go on until 10. It’s misleading, in my opinion, to advertise tickets on a work night at 8 and have the headliner start two hours later. Please provide further transparency around set start times so attendees can better plan. Thanks.

  • Andrew bird at NJPAC

by Bryan on 4/15/23New Jersey Performing Arts Center - NewarkRating: 4 out of 5

I love Andrew bird, this venue was really perfect for him the sound quality was really great. I enjoyed Madison Cunningham as a good fit but missed Andrew plucking the violin strings as she filled it in with her guitar. He played until 11:00 but I was disappointed that he did not play an oncore and no Roma Fade.

  • Best show we’ve seen him perform

by Liag on 4/15/23New Jersey Performing Arts Center - NewarkRating: 5 out of 5

Been a fan for 20 years and he just gets better and better every year. Madison Cunningham was terrific and her vocals with Andrew Bird were amazing.

  • Indie concert on a beautiful spring evening

by Ibs on 4/15/23New Jersey Performing Arts Center - NewarkRating: 5 out of 5

Talented musicians in an acoustically resonant arena bringing the world’s sounds to Newark. Praise be to their inventiveness, verve, and creativity.

  • incredible andrew bird show at njpac

by sill on 4/15/23New Jersey Performing Arts Center - NewarkRating: 5 out of 5

first time seeing andrew bird live and so glad i did. the breadth of his musical talent combined with being a gifted wordsmith and having a great band made the performance a true joy to experience live. really loved the lighting. the njpac hall is also a really good place to see a show. if i had one issue it would be that two opening acts felt unnecessary (even though they were both gifted musicians). it made for a late drive home on a school night.

  • The Bird Live

by Dave on 4/15/23New Jersey Performing Arts Center - NewarkRating: 5 out of 5

The staff saw us through nicely, the opening act was very good, my only critique was that Andrew Bird didn't play more of his last previous album "My Finest Work Yet" but that's a personal preference.

  • Doesn’t really play much old stuff

by A. L. on 4/15/23New Jersey Performing Arts Center - NewarkRating: 3 out of 5

I know this is a cliche complaint, but for such a great discography, Andrew Bird didn’t really pull much from the past. I like the new stuff too, but seems a bit odd to ignore 60-70% of your discography.

  • One of the best concerts I’ve ever seen

by LL Cool L on 4/15/23New Jersey Performing Arts Center - NewarkRating: 5 out of 5

This was our first time seeing Andrew Bird. The music, venue, and the entire evening was enchanting. I’m so glad that we went, and I wish I could follow him on tour all over the country. Spellbinding and talented musicianship!

  • Great show, opening act was LONG

by Mainegal on 4/14/23State Theatre - PortlandRating: 4 out of 5

This was a great show, my only bit of feedback is that the opening act was really long- over an hour. I was exhausted by the time the show was over… this is the only reason for my 4 star review.

  • good show.

by maq on 4/13/23Old Forester's Paristown Hall - LouisvilleRating: 4 out of 5

band sounded great, but this type of music really works better in a smaller venue.
