About

André Rieu on Tour

André Rieu is nothing short of a cosmopolitan treasure. The Dutch violinist has dedicated his life to spreading the joy of the waltz to fans across the world. Since starting the Johann Strauss Orchestra in the late ‘80s, he's taken his dynamic ensemble — which numbers around 60 — everywhere from Europe and Asia to the Americas and Australia. Almost every year, the orchestra lands on Billboard's list of Top 25 tours, with Rieu recognized by the publication in 2009 as the most successful male touring artist in the world. Yearly, his group performs between 70 and 100 shows worldwide. Rieu has become famous for his energetic stage presence and thrilling repertoire. Often playing on the violin from the conductor's podium and leading his orchestra at the same time, engaging the audience in his dramatic and buoyant readings of well-known tunes, Rieu is as close to a rock star as one can get in the classical world.

André Rieu in Concert

Rieu was born in Maastricht, Netherlands, in 1949 to a father who was the conductor of the Maastricht Symphony Orchestra. So a life in music came naturally. He began studying the violin at age 5, eventually training at conservatories in Liège, Maastricht and Brussels. During his studies, he became obsessed with the waltz as he recognized how thoroughly the Viennese form gripped audiences when played from a stage. After a number of performance posts, including with the Limburg Symphony Orchestra, Rieu created the Johann Strauss Orchestra in 1987. The group would be dedicated primarily to performing waltzes the world over. With his orchestra, Rieu has not only toured but released live DVDs and CDs, many of which have gone platinum, and he's responsible for the beloved annual New Year's concerts in Vienna, the birthplace of Strauss and the home of the waltz.

  • Great music and entertainment.

This is my 2nd live Andre Rieu concert and I have thoroughly enjoyed each concert. Andre knows how to work an audience and engage with them. You will find yourself participating in the group sing-alongs and tapping your feet to the wonderful music. Andre always incorporates some local interests and music into his concerts. I look forward to his next tour to the DC area.

I love Andre Rieu and his Johann Strauss orchestra. I have been following them since 2013, and they finally came to Washington DC! I like the blend of classical and pop on acoustic instruments of an orchestra. Although Andre has recordings on Spotify, the ensemble is more entertaining to watch.

  • Best concert yet will go back for more.

  • BOSTON concert was phenomenal!

by PJJB on 9/19/23Rating: 5 out of 5

This the third time I've seen Andre Rieu. Twice in Tampa and tonight in Boston. The entire concert was perfect! The orchestra is very talented and look like they have a lot of fun playing their wonderful music! Many of the singers and musicians appear to have been with him for a long time. Phenomenal!

  • Missed the first few songs due to long lines

by Paya on 9/19/23Capital One Arena - WashingtonRating: 2 out of 5

We arrived a sufficient amount of time before the show's start time, but due to the long lines to get inside and the absurd policy of not letting people during the songs, we missed a few songs at the show's beginning. Also, I feel like the sound volume was too low. I could not hear the conductor's comments.

  • Wonderful evening.

by Flummi on 9/19/23Capital One Arena - WashingtonRating: 4 out of 5

The concert was lovely. I missed having dancers perform as seen in some of the older concerts. A stadium seems unfitting for a beautiful concert like this. So many people were talking and walking in late. It was quite embarrassing and disruptive. We did enjoy the concert otherwise very much. The venue staff was nice for the most part, but the bag policies are rediculous!!!!

  • Another fantastic performance

    by Drdave21146 on 9/19/23Capital One Arena - WashingtonRating: 5 out of 5

Andre Rieu gave another wonderful performance last night. For those like me who follow Andre Rieu on the internet, there was nothing really new. He has a formula which has proven successful over the past years. As expected, there were bagpipes and a trio of tenors as well as a trio of sopranos whose personalities were well known to me. What was new was the inclusion of a gospel choir which the DC audience really appreciated. And of course, there were the protests from the audience when Andre announces that it is time for everyone to go home to bed. That was just the beginning of another 20 minutes of favorites. All in all, everyone had a wonderful time. And, I must say that there needs to be a change in the policy of not allowing cameras. With practically everyone owning and/or carrying phones capable of taking photographs, it makes no sense to ban cameras!!!

  • Phenomenal

by Ninigirl on 9/19/23Capital One Arena - WashingtonRating: 5 out of 5

Andre’ DOES NOT disappoint. He started the show exactly on time and made a spectacular display throughout. There was never a dull moment. The orchestra had fun and included humor. It was very entertaining. I’ve never been to a concert quite like it I would recommend it to anybody at any age! A Superb performance!! Bravo Bravo Bravo !

  • Not impressed at all!!!

by Seena on 9/19/23Capital One Arena - WashingtonRating: 1 out of 5

I was looking forward to this show. However, I was truly disappointed. I spent about $750 for this concert to have celebrated our anniversary but it was so lame compared to the other performances of the group. Boring, lacking hit songs/music, …. I wanted to leave after the first part but was asked us to stay if it would get any better for the second half. Boy, we should have left!!!

  • Andre Rieu is the best--

by Toby D on 9/19/23Capital One Arena - WashingtonRating: 5 out of 5

It was a great show, the seating was good, the performance was off the chart. Hope we can do it again soon. It's was a privilege to see Andre Rieu's orchestra is America.

  • Spectacular show!

by LynnM on 9/19/23Capital One Arena - WashingtonRating: 5 out of 5

Words are inadequate to describe an Andre Rieu concert. It was a magical night...full of wonderful music, beautiful costumes, talented musicians and vocalists....all led by the consummate performer Andre Rieu. He does everything just perfectly to appeal to a wide audience and crosses many genres of music. Despite a rigorous touring schedule, the performance was perfect and fresh and enthusiastic. Andre involves his audience appropriately and kept us engaged the whole time. There were attendees from all over the country and Andre and his Orchestra are a phenomenon not to be missed. We felt like we'd been given a dose of happiness and joy. We hope we'll be lucky enough to see him again. Andre Rieu and the JS orchestra are not to be missed!

  • A magical night full of fun and of course music

by JTL on 9/19/23Capital One Arena - WashingtonRating: 5 out of 5

The show was fantastic. Seeing Andrew Rieu live, was a dream come true. I invited my mom as she truly enjoy his music and we have such a good time there. Every song was beautifully performed. The message of a unified world is exactly what this world needs. I hope most shows were about the people and not only about fun.

  • Wonderful

wonderful show where I had never seen both adults and children participate, music that fills the soul and the best thing is the complicity of the musicians, singers with the audience, a single word defines the entire show Wonderful
