Anaheim Ducks History

What began as a 1992 Disney movie turned into a professional hockey team as the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim played their first official season in the NHL in 1993. With the emergence of Paul Kariya in late 1994, Anaheim had its first bona fide superstar.

In 1996, Teemu Selänne arrived via trade, and alongside Kariya helped lead the franchise to its first playoffs appearance in 1997. The Ducks reached the Stanley Cup Final in 2003, where they lost to the New Jersey Devils. Forever etched in Mighty Ducks lore was the knock out delivered upon Kariya by the Devils' Scott Stevens in game six. Kariya would make a hero's return in that game, emerging from the locker room to score and lead the team to victory. Netminder Jean-Sébastien Giguère won the Conn Smythe Trophy as the MVP of the playoffs, becoming the fifth player to win the trophy as a member of the losing team.

Disney sold the franchise to Henry and Susan Samueli in 2005, and the team dropped the "Mighty" from their moniker. With star players on the roster, including future Hall of Fame defensemen Chris Pronger and Scott Nidermayer, the Ducks finished the 2007 season as Stanley Cup Champions, defeating the Ottawa Senators in five games. With Rob Niedermayer also on the roster, the Niedermayers became the first set of brothers to win the Stanley Cup together since the 1980s. The Ducks have been in the playoffs a total of 14 times in their 29 seasons.

    Great experience but expensive food/drinks

    by Duckswin07 on 10/25/23Honda Center - Anaheim

Love the improvements to the Honda Center but food and drink prices especially for one bottle of water is really ridiculous there. I wasn’t a big fan of trashing the opposing team either on the Jumbotron, focus on the Ducks not their opponents. Good sportsmanship is important especially to young hockey players attending the games who just had to complete a mandatory training on bullying and all for SCAHA. Focus on the positives of the Ducks instead please.

Excellent stadium, with a poor no bag policy

by Clinton on 10/23/23Honda Center - Anaheim

We went to a game after Disneyland which can't be that uncommon as the stadium is less than 10mins away, however we're told as soon as we arrived that my girlfriend's small backpack, think the Disney ones (2 litre) that everyone carries, wasn't allowed in. I ask if there was lockers, got a "no", I asked if I rolled it up and squashed it in my pocket, got a "no"too, so I asked what our options were and she replied with a laugh and a shrug of the shoulders - great customer service! We walked away and I did roll it up and squash it in my pocket and we managed to get in. The stadium is great, easy to access everywhere. Shop is huge, and the seats in the upper deck are alot closer than other rinks. Would be 5 stars if not for the bag policy and interaction with the staff member.

Great Game but seats SUCK !!!

by Jimmy hudson on 4/16/23Honda Center - Anaheim

My overall experience was pretty good. While waiting in line, I ended up scoring free parking. So that had me excited and pumped up. When you first walk in there’s lines everywhere for snacks and drinks, so I felt like that kept the lines down. When we got to our seats I was pretty disappointed. I’m not a thin guy, but I’m not super obese either and I could barely fit in the seats and they were uncomfortably close to whoever you’re sitting next to. I couldn’t even get my phone out my pocket.

    First time at the Hockey

by CavAttack on 4/14/23Honda Center - Anaheim

While visiting from Australia I took the opportunity to attend a hockey game and what a great idea. The one of play and structures are worth seeing live. The seats were comfortable and the service provided at the venue was exceptional.

    Great Seats at Club Level

by CGBadar on 4/14/23Honda Center - Anaheim

My wife, 6 yo son, and I enjoyed the game. It was our first NHL Hockey game and the Ducks did not disappoint in the overall entertain package. Seats were fantastic, the club level was clean and safe and ideal for families. We got to order food and beverages from our seats which was nice. An inadvertent spill near our seats and the staff acted promptly to clean the slip hazard. My wife and son got a chance to be featured on the big screen during a spirit time out which made the experience quite memorable for my son. We will definitely go back and we are seriously considering season tickets provided the expense is not cost prohibitive. In addition, the Ducks provide ice skating lessons to future NHL players and for sure we will enroll our son into that thoughtful program.

    Great game!

by Lulu on 4/12/23Honda Center - Anaheim

Nice clean arena, easy to navigate and all the staff we interacted with were great. The mascot joked around with us because we were wearing the other teams jerseys. An explanation of why they were removing a body bag from the ice when we got there would have been nice, didn't seem to be an emergency, more of a photo/ad thing but it was kind of weird.

Great time at a nice arena

by Bill C on 3/23/23Honda Center - Anaheim

We had a group of 4 Preds fans and it was our 1st time at the Honda Center. We were lucky enough to get 4 tickets right behind the Preds' bench. From our pregaming at JT's across the street to our interaction with Wild Wing during the game, we had an absolute blast! The Ducks fans we talked to were all very nice and we had no bad experiences during our visit. We definitely can't wait to go back!
