Anaheim Ducks History

What began as a 1992 Disney movie turned into a professional hockey team as the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim played their first official season in the NHL in 1993. With the emergence of Paul Kariya in late 1994, Anaheim had its first bona fide superstar.

In 1996, Teemu Selänne arrived via trade, and alongside Kariya helped lead the franchise to its first playoffs appearance in 1997. The Ducks reached the Stanley Cup Final in 2003, where they lost to the New Jersey Devils. Forever etched in Mighty Ducks lore was the knockout delivered upon Kariya by the Devils' Scott Stevens in game six. Kariya would make a hero's return in that game, emerging from the locker room to score and lead the team to victory. Netminder Jean-Sébastien Giguère won the Conn Smythe Trophy as the MVP of the playoffs, becoming the fifth player to win the trophy as a member of the losing team.

Disney sold the franchise to Henry and Susan Samueli in 2005, and the team dropped the "Mighty" from their moniker. With star players on the roster, including future Hall of Fame defensemen Chris Pronger and Scott Niedermayer, the Ducks finished the 2007 season as Stanley Cup Champions, defeating the Ottawa Senators in five games. With Rob Niedermayer also on the roster, the Niedermayers became the first set of brothers to win the Stanley Cup together since the 1980s.

  • Disappointment

by Woody on 12/24/23Honda Center - AnaheimRating: 1 out of 5

From the security at the rink to the play of the game. Was just disappointed.

  • Awesome game

by JJRyan on 12/8/23Honda Center - AnaheimRating: 5 out of 5

Went to see the Ducks play the Avalanche, seating was perfect, very friendly and helpful staff. Actually, the nicest staff my wife and I have ever encountered at any hockey game. We would visit again

  • Great Night!

by Joy on 12/3/23Honda Center - AnaheimRating: 4 out of 5

We had an amazing night at the Capitals vs. Ducks game! My daughter and I go every year to cheer on our CAPS as we hail from the DMV. The only complaint I have is the cost of the concessions at the arena. The prices are outrageous. However, everything else works lovely. There is ample and clearly marked parking, the arena is beautiful and clean, I never feel unsafe. We are always happy to go!

  • Outstanding it

It's my first Ducks contest and I had blast watching and meeting people also there.

  • Awesome

by Cel on 11/27/23Honda Center - AnaheimRating: 5 out of 5

This game 11/24 vs the Kings was a lot of fun. Lots of fan excitement and equal amounts of ducks and kings fans and chanting. I love how there was fights as well which made the players play even harder. Honda center is so much more convenient and less traffic to go and I’m going again this Saturday for ducks and Avs game. See you again soon!! #flytogether

  • I loved it

    by k3ss0ku on 11/22/23Honda Center - AnaheimRating: 5 out of 5

The atmosphere is as just the best. The amount of people that show up chanting “LETS GO DUCKS” that slowly dies off, that goal horn and everything

  • Ducks Triumph

by Bambi on 11/14/23Honda Center - AnaheimRating: 5 out of 5

Excellent comeback game. We watched in awe as the Dicks came from behind scored point after point effortlessly.

  • My first two ducks games

by Michael GreenSweenSweeney on 11/13/23Honda Center - AnaheimRating: 4 out of 5

I had a fantastic time, brought a friend with me to both games. It was my first 2 NHL games ever. I got to see my favorite Mighty Ducks of Anaheim! Sadly, they did lose both games :( . However, i got to see Gibson put on a display and Leo Carlssons first NHL hat trick! Really hope to come back again!!!

  • Amazing

  • Great experience, topped with a Mighty Ducks win!

by Ben on 11/13/23Honda Center - AnaheimRating: 5 out of 5

We arrived late due to traffic getting to Anaheim from LA but managed to get through security and ticket checks easily. Once in we grabbed some food and headed to our seats. Top tier but brilliant view and we sat down as the second goal was scored so timed it well. Comfortable seats with plenty of food and drink options available to us. After an OT winner for the ducks again, equally as efficient as having the fans exit the stadium. My only complaint was the I wanted to have a look in the show but the exit route we were advised to take took us straight out and passed no club shop and once at the front entrance we weren't allowed back in.

  • First Timer

by Big Dave on 11/10/23Honda Center - AnaheimRating: 5 out of 5

This is my fourth trip to California and having previously sampled baseball (SF Giants, LA Angels, SD Padres) and NFL, this time I wanted to experience NHL at the Ducks. Absolutely loved it - great seats with a wonderful view of the rink, lots of choice for food and drink and loved the atmosphere. Shame I didn’t see the Ducks score though! Will be back again.

The ducks are back! The only complaint is the seats are a bit cramped, but if you’re standing to cheer, not an issue haha!

  • So much fun & first timer!

by Jacobs on 11/4/23Honda Center - AnaheimRating: 5 out of 5

Had great seats, everything from the beginning to the end was worth every minute. Lived next to the Honda center all my life and I’m just now going to a game and it was a great time! Can’t wait to go back (:

  • Played WELL against the Boston Bruins!

by Duckies Don’t Duck! on 10/25/23Honda Center - AnaheimRating: 5 out of 5

We knew…we just KNEW whoever the ducks played after the Boston Bruins on Sunday they were going to win. They certainly did yesterday against the Columbus blue jackets! This Duckstein is a far cry from last year‘s. They were pretty good team as they have some good shooters and they played great defense against Columbus and Boston. with the new draft picks coming up, the ducks will be heard from for the next two or three years for sure. Congratulations front office. You are doing a great job.

  • FIRST TIME AT THE STADIUM

by YOMAMA on 10/25/23Honda Center - AnaheimRating: 5 out of 5

AWSOME EXPERIENCE GOT TO LIVE IT WITH MY PRECIOUS FAMILY, THE EXCIMENT THE ATMOSPHERE WE WILL GO AGAIN!!!

  • Great experience but expensive food/drinks

    by Duckswin07 on 10/25/23Honda Center - AnaheimRating: 4 out of 5

Love the improvements to the Honda Center but food and drink prices especially for one bottle of water is really ridiculous there. I wasn’t a big fan of trashing the opposing team either on the Jumbotron, focus on the Ducks not their opponents. Good sportsmanship is important especially to young hockey players attending the games who just had to complete a mandatory training on bullying and all for SCAHA. Focus on the positives of the Ducks instead please.

  • Excellent stadium, with a poor no bag policy

by Clinton on 10/23/23Honda Center - AnaheimRating: 4 out of 5

We went to a game after Disneyland which can't be that uncommon as the stadium is less than 10mins away, however we're told as soon as we arrived that my girlfriend's small backpack, think the Disney ones (2 litre) that everyone carries, wasn't allowed in. I ask if there was lockers, got a "no", I asked if I rolled it up and squashed it in my pocket, got a "no"too, so I asked what our options were and she replied with a laugh and a shrug of the shoulders - great customer service! We walked away and I did roll it up and squash it in my pocket and we managed to get in. The stadium is great, easy to access everywhere. Shop is huge, and the seats in the upper deck are alot closer than other rinks. Would be 5 stars if not for the bag policy and interaction with the staff member.
