Anaheim Ducks History

What began as a 1992 Disney movie turned into a professional hockey team as the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim played their first official season in the NHL in 1993. With the emergence of Paul Kariya in late 1994, Anaheim had its first bona fide superstar.

In 1996, Teemu Selänne arrived via trade, and alongside Kariya helped lead the franchise to its first playoffs appearance in 1997. The Ducks reached the Stanley Cup Final in 2003, where they lost to the New Jersey Devils. Forever etched in Mighty Ducks lore was the knockout delivered upon Kariya by the Devils' Scott Stevens in game six. Kariya would make a hero's return in that game, emerging from the locker room to score and lead the team to victory. Netminder Jean-Sébastien Giguère won the Conn Smythe Trophy as the MVP of the playoffs, becoming the fifth player to win the trophy as a member of the losing team.

Disney sold the franchise to Henry and Susan Samueli in 2005, and the team dropped the "Mighty" from their moniker. With star players on the roster, including future Hall of Fame defensemen Chris Pronger and Scott Niedermayer, the Ducks finished the 2007 season as Stanley Cup Champions, defeating the Ottawa Senators in five games. With Rob Niedermayer also on the roster, the Niedermayers became the first set of brothers to win the Stanley Cup together since the 1980s.

  • Ducks Win!

by lab on 10/20/24Honda Center - AnaheimRating: 4 out of 5

Great experience. Parked off site -short walk. Seats were good... however, ordering food and food selection - not such a great experience.... long lines were to be expected since it was opening night, but the wait for food to come out was ridiculous! Missed the opening while I waited... I did appreciate that I would get a text but still had to walk far to my seat and then back to get the food once I got the text so I chose to wait. ugh.... won't do that again!

  • Great experience!

by Mookfly on 10/19/24Honda Center - AnaheimRating: 5 out of 5

Ducks games are a fun time. The atmosphere is energetic and fun. The people who work at the arena are friendly and helpful. The fans are pretty respectful for the most part and the in-arena production and program are great. Plus, the tickets aren't expensive.

  • Doug made our family’s night!

by Saldana Family on 10/5/24Honda Center - AnaheimRating: 5 out of 5

It was our family’s first time going to a hockey game and I must say Doug our usher made the experience that much better. He was super sweet and let our family know we could go to guest services to get a certificate to show it was our first time attending a hockey event. The game was amazing, it was so much better than expected! Doug checked on our family to see how we were enjoying the game and his sweet personality just made our day! Doug you are amazing! We will definitely be back to watch another hockey game!

  • Ups and Downs but still worth it

by DMcGee on 9/29/24Honda Center - AnaheimRating: 4 out of 5

Make sure you hit up the outside team store before 5pm. You won’t get another chance for merch unless you stand in a line 70 people deep. Game starts at 7 so they let people in at 5:30. The cost for a 24oz beer, a Bavarian pretzel, cheese, and a Diet Coke was $38.99 after tip. Each tall beer is $19. I recommend you pregame or something. If you are lucky you will be able to get a seat without anyone right next to you. I’m a bigger guy (230 lbs) and I’m kind of squeezed in there. The guy in my original seat kept bumping me with his elbows so I moved. Bring more than a sweater. It was colder than I thought. Honestly, seeing hockey live has now ruined watching it on tv. It’s just not nearly the same. So now I want to try to go to more live events.

  • First time in Anaheim

by Dan on 4/8/24Honda Center - AnaheimRating: 4 out of 5

Wow, really enjoyed the game and the arena for the most part. The food was some of the best I have had at an arena and quick. Parking was overly complicated to get into lot 4 with no signs for those of us from out of town until we were almost to lot 4. It took forever to be let in and once inside staff “need permission to serve food”

  • Best night in Anaheim

by El on 3/28/24Honda Center - AnaheimRating: 5 out of 5

Honda Center staff were all really friendly, helping to make my first Hockey game one to remember. Even though the Ducks lost, I loved every second being there.

  • Game good

by Vik on 3/25/24Honda Center - AnaheimRating: 4 out of 5

I have never experienced such bad parking. Took an hour then I missed half of the 1st period. Could not enjoy the game after that and left in the 2nd period. Never again !!!

  • Scalping tickets

by Steve on 3/24/24Honda Center - AnaheimRating: 2 out of 5

I think it’s terrible how much I had to pay for tickets via the scalping process when the arena is half empty.

  • Great Arena/ Not so good food choices

by John Forsythe on 3/12/24Honda Center - AnaheimRating: 5 out of 5

We had a great time at the Arena to see the Dallas Stars play. The arena was awesome. Need to add Escalators so you don't have to wait for elevators if you can do stairs. The food was ok but I was limited due to no meat. You need to upgrade your pretzel game. They were not good and was like a rock. All in All great time. Arena staff was great and everyone was so pleasant.

Amazing atmosphere and experience. These fans are truly great and you can see that the professional league is top notch. Will go again when in the US during the playing season.

  • Great game, great venue

by Deborah on 2/12/24Honda Center - AnaheimRating: 5 out of 5

Although the Ducks lost. It was a great game. The goalies on both teams worked so hard. I was really bummed when the Ducks left the goal unattended to have the goalie play. Great staff, great venue, and perfect weather with no rain in sight.

  • Awesome place to watch a game
