Anaheim Ducks History

What began as a 1992 Disney movie turned into a professional hockey team as the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim played their first official season in the NHL in 1993. With the emergence of Paul Kariya in late 1994, Anaheim had its first bona fide superstar.

In 1996, Teemu Selänne arrived via trade, and alongside Kariya helped lead the franchise to its first playoffs appearance in 1997. The Ducks reached the Stanley Cup Final in 2003, where they lost to the New Jersey Devils. Forever etched in Mighty Ducks lore was the knockout delivered upon Kariya by the Devils' Scott Stevens in game six. Kariya would make a hero's return in that game, emerging from the locker room to score and lead the team to victory. Netminder Jean-Sébastien Giguère won the Conn Smythe Trophy as the MVP of the playoffs, becoming the fifth player to win the trophy as a member of the losing team.

Disney sold the franchise to Henry and Susan Samueli in 2005, and the team dropped the "Mighty" from their moniker. With star players on the roster, including future Hall of Fame defensemen Chris Pronger and Scott Niedermayer, the Ducks finished the 2007 season as Stanley Cup Champions, defeating the Ottawa Senators in five games. With Rob Niedermayer also on the roster, the Niedermayers became the first set of brothers to win the Stanley Cup together since the 1980s.

Eveyry year I go to the Chicago and Montreal games v the ducks, and the place its self does a spectacular job. But it is always 1/4 empty if not more and there is no fan base. Its too bad.

  • Ducks offer good fan experience

by DBinOC on 11/28/16Honda Center - AnaheimRating: 4 out of 5

It was a good hockey game. The Ducks are fun to watch right now, even if they lost and half the arena was Chicago fans because Notre Dame was also in town to play USC that weekend. My sons and I still had fun.

Had a great time at the Honda Center, which is one of the best stadia I have visited. Our seats in section 322 afforded a nice view and the concession service at our seats was convenient. A great day overall.

  • Wheelchair seating

by walesg on 11/18/16Honda Center - AnaheimRating: 5 out of 5

This was wheelchair seating? Felt like VIP, cozy glass box with no blocked view, parking for 2. Honda Center Staff was great and friendly. Oh and by the way there was a Hockey game, Ducks won and that was the icing on the evenings cake. Will ask for these again as no one could get in our way.

  • Duck's of Anaheim

  • Ducks insulted my guest.

by diverdownmaui on 10/30/16Honda Center - AnaheimRating: 1 out of 5

During our visit to the Pond, my guest was compared to the Michael Meyers character Fat Bastard. My wife was shocked that such a negative comparison Would be put up on the large screen. My brother felt embarrassed for my guest. My guest was encouraged to contact the Ducks organization and complain. He did and to Date has not receiv d even a reply. For an organization like the ducks To Resort To Negative carticatur speaks Volumes on the lack If leadership in this organization. Here is an idea, how about positive comparisons.

  • Anaheim Ducks Parking

by ChrisBeh on 10/26/16Honda Center - AnaheimRating: 4 out of 5

$20 to park to watch a Ducks game is outrageous. We will have to try and find other means for parking.

  • Home opener win

by Letsgoducks on 10/26/16Honda Center - AnaheimRating: 5 out of 5

The overall fan experience outside of the game has vastly improved this year better food selection and more ushers and security better food quality and much more fan give a ways and intermission entertaining the price of food did go up slightly about 50 cents per item but that's worth the changes as far as the game we got an impressive win and Perry and Getzy are getting back to work this year slow start like always but I plan on being in the stands for some post season action LET'S GO DUCKS!

  • Opening Day!

by MeEason on 10/26/16Honda Center - AnaheimRating: 4 out of 5

Great day...great seats! We were happy to just get tickets for this game.

  • Preseason showdown

by MBEB on 10/6/16Honda Center - AnaheimRating: 4 out of 5

As expected the preseason game showcased many of the young new faces, and the seasoned vets that did play were playing it safe and saving themselves for when it counts. Of course it was a Ducks/ Kings pairup, so there was a little scrapping, and one good one on one with a Ducks newcomer getting in some great shots for his half of that five minute penalty. Refs kept calls to a minimum, allowing some dirty playing to go unchecked, but all in all it was a decent game, with not a lot of the usual excitement seen at an in season game.

  • amazing

by Dulcelovespatches on 4/25/16Honda Center - AnaheimRating: 5 out of 5

It was my first game going by myself and I loved it. It's definitely a night I won't forget. I got to see my favorite team play and the seat was so close I got to see how much cuter they are in person. Unfortunately we lost but I will definitely keep supporting them throughout the playoffs. Let's win this! Bring the cup home!!
