Anaheim Ducks History

What began as a 1992 Disney movie turned into a professional hockey team as the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim played their first official season in the NHL in 1993. With the emergence of Paul Kariya in late 1994, Anaheim had its first bona fide superstar.

In 1996, Teemu Selänne arrived via trade, and alongside Kariya helped lead the franchise to its first playoffs appearance in 1997. The Ducks reached the Stanley Cup Final in 2003, where they lost to the New Jersey Devils. Forever etched in Mighty Ducks lore was the knockout delivered upon Kariya by the Devils' Scott Stevens in game six. Kariya would make a hero's return in that game, emerging from the locker room to score and lead the team to victory. Netminder Jean-Sébastien Giguère won the Conn Smythe Trophy as the MVP of the playoffs, becoming the fifth player to win the trophy as a member of the losing team.

Disney sold the franchise to Henry and Susan Samueli in 2005, and the team dropped the "Mighty" from their moniker. With star players on the roster, including future Hall of Fame defensemen Chris Pronger and Scott Niedermayer, the Ducks finished the 2007 season as Stanley Cup Champions, defeating the Ottawa Senators in five games. With Rob Niedermayer also on the roster, the Niedermayers became the first set of brothers to win the Stanley Cup together since the 1980s.

  • Choose your seats carefully

by RosalieK on 5/4/17Honda Center - AnaheimRating: 4 out of 5

Must warn people about sitting in 400 sections. Some people have no hockey game etiquette. Despite telling these jerks to sit back in their seats, not get up and/or taking their sweet time to get back to their seats while the puck is in play (so the people behind them can SEE the game), they don't care & totally ruin the game experience. So if you're behind these jerks or have experienced this yourself, people are people & could care less about others (which makes the whole hockey experience lame). Not to deter you from going to a game but be warned. I would just put up the $ and choose seats in 200s/300s levels.

  • Ducks game

by Newtski on 4/30/17Honda Center - AnaheimRating: 3 out of 5

Game was good but the pregame was not child-friendly it was all based upon serving alcohol. A little more family-friendly items would have been quite enjoyable.

  • Try another venue

by Unlikelytogo on 4/29/17Honda Center - AnaheimRating: 1 out of 5

First of all I paid a lot of money to go to this event. We got there early to enjoy the festivities but right away we were disappointed they let us in then kicked us out then let us in then kicked us out because they were unsure when they opened. Finally 15-20 minutes later they were ready for us to come in completely a different time showing online. They even scanned our tickets so we were stuck in place so they wouldn't forget that we needed back in. I just love wearing warm hockey gear in the sun. Once we were in I can say they were disorganized and the workers were impatient. I was very unhappy and can say I normally don't complain but this was a trip not worth going.

  • Game was great, but not the beer!

    by Kiidflash11 on 4/19/17Honda Center - AnaheimRating: 3 out of 5

My friend kept getting the same beer during the game and they kept charging him different prices! Next time I go to the Honda center Ima start getting my receipts! What a shame!

  • Always a Blast!

    by Sakurafairy24 on 4/18/17Honda Center - AnaheimRating: 5 out of 5

I love watching the Ducks play at Honda Center. Being from San Diego, we drive up whenever we can to watch a game. Last game we had a sold out crowd, and it was still enjoyable. Parking was quick and easy; there was a line leading into the team store but it moved quickly and we were in within minutes. Always lots of food to choose from and the fans are great. The chairs are a bit narrow so if your taller or a little wider like myself you don't have much wiggle room. Makes it harder to get in and out of your seat to cheer on your team; Especially if its a sold out game, its very hard to eat because you cant move your arms around much.

My first time at the anaheim arena and first hockey game. Had a lot of fun. The game was very entertaining. Even though we were at the top, still had a great view of the ice. Definitely something I would do again.

  • Didn't want it

by Scheebze on 2/20/17Honda Center - AnaheimRating: 3 out of 5

The ducks didn't seem like they wanted the win. Gibson was not doing well in net and seemed off for the game. let a couple cheap goals in that he should have had. Jager destroyed him. Poor effort by most of the team. Could be do just coming back from a road trip but the energy of play was lacking.
