Anaheim Ducks History

What began as a 1992 Disney movie turned into a professional hockey team as the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim played their first official season in the NHL in 1993. With the emergence of Paul Kariya in late 1994, Anaheim had its first bona fide superstar.

In 1996, Teemu Selänne arrived via trade, and alongside Kariya helped lead the franchise to its first playoffs appearance in 1997. The Ducks reached the Stanley Cup Final in 2003, where they lost to the New Jersey Devils. Forever etched in Mighty Ducks lore was the knockout delivered upon Kariya by the Devils' Scott Stevens in game six. Kariya would make a hero's return in that game, emerging from the locker room to score and lead the team to victory. Netminder Jean-Sébastien Giguère won the Conn Smythe Trophy as the MVP of the playoffs, becoming the fifth player to win the trophy as a member of the losing team.

Disney sold the franchise to Henry and Susan Samueli in 2005, and the team dropped the "Mighty" from their moniker. With star players on the roster, including future Hall of Fame defensemen Chris Pronger and Scott Niedermayer, the Ducks finished the 2007 season as Stanley Cup Champions, defeating the Ottawa Senators in five games. With Rob Niedermayer also on the roster, the Niedermayers became the first set of brothers to win the Stanley Cup together since the 1980s.

  • Great game, sad outcome

    by Tarahumara13 on 3/25/18Honda Center - AnaheimRating: 5 out of 5

As a Wings fan since 1957 I bleed Red (Come to think of it, I guess we all do). So the sad ending was just that, sad). But we all know that the Wings are in the rebuilding proccess so there it is. I've been seeing the Wings at the Pond since the very first season of the Duck's and take my kids each year. It's a family tradition and we also enjoy it a lot (especially when the Wings win.) The stadium is nice and the home fans have always been polite and courteousk, which makes all the difference in the world. I went to one Kings' game (vs. Wings) and the fans were animals, one in particular. Thank heavens that the Ducks' fans are classy, as I like to think the Wings' fans are in Detroit. So all in all it was a great experience at a very nice venue with courteous home fans. Can't ask for more than that.

  • Ducks Win Again!

by flyboyOC on 3/20/18Honda Center - AnaheimRating: 4 out of 5

I bought tickets to see the Ducks play the Canucks at Honda Center to take my son to a game. Ticketmaster was running a sale where tickets were 25% off for a few games. This allowed me to buy tickets 5 rows back from the glass at the goal line in the corner for this game. I paid less than I did earlier this season for tickets in the 400 section for these seats. The game was good, the Ducks won and moved 2 points closer to clinching a playoff or wild card spot, but the seats were fabulous. Sitting 5 rows off the ice at an NHL game was a first for me and being in the corner on the goal line was over the top. Players getting checked into the boards with their faces smashed onto the glass a few feet away has to be experienced to appreciate it for a hockey fan. Rest assured that if this deal comes up again in the future I'll be popping for lower level seats as close to the glass as I can get again, preferably in the corner to get the full value experience.

Great seats, get to see Ducks shoot twice sitting on West side, and Duck fans are welcoming to all.

  • CBH look tired out!

by Zzzyk on 3/7/18Honda Center - AnaheimRating: 4 out of 5

CBH looked tired, even though they beat the LA Kings the day before. I know losing Marian Hossa permanently and Corey Crawford for the season hurts. But is it time to change coaches and general manager???

  • Up top but good seats

    by Ambiguous8 on 3/7/18Honda Center - AnaheimRating: 4 out of 5

We were one row down from the top, right in front of the press box, but the seats were still great w/ good sight lines. Seats lined up about the blue line, and we had clear sight of the rink and the action.

  • Ducks game was super!

  • Bad seat in the house

by GPNterprises on 1/31/18Honda Center - AnaheimRating: 4 out of 5

When I bought the tix I tjouhht I was getting a great seat behind the goal Unfortunately it didn't say restricted biew. So at the end of the 1st. I had to move to get a biew all the way down the ice. So byer beware of that choice of seat. Definitely not worth the money.

  • Extremely cold venue

by meangoat on 1/24/18Honda Center - AnaheimRating: 3 out of 5

Yes I went to a hockey game but the temperature felt more like it was an outdoor game rather than an indoor game. Air conditioning fans blew on us the entire game and we were extremely uncomfortable. After the 1st period we went to the Ducks team store to see if we could find a blanket or sweatshirt for purchase that didn't have Ducks team logos all over it since we were there supporting the visiting San Jose Sharks. No such luck so we froze the rest of the evening. The only satisfaction we had that night was beating the Ducks 6-2 which warmed my heart but not the rest of my body. I would guess the San Jose SAP center, aka Shark Tank, is probably 15 degrees warmer than the Duck pond as I have never worn more than a t-shirt to Sharks games. Concession stands have fewer healthy selections than in San Jose and $14.25 for a beer is down right robbery. Won't be going back to the pond !!!!

  • by Anonymous on 11/22/17Honda Center - AnaheimRating: 2 out of 5

Was disappointed that Honda Center employees did not hand us anything when we walked in through the main entrance. They were doing giveaways that night but we had to go back down after we had already found our seats to look for someone handing them out; they didn't want to and assumed we were just scamming for a 2nd one, but I eventually succeeded. We also did not get offered a Game Day booklet and at the end of the night could not locate any extras. We paid for preferred parking, but for some reason they closed off the exit near us and we had to wait over 30 min before exiting the parking lot at the opposite end of the stadium. Also since I've been here last they raised the prices of concessions; the quality of the popcorn was noticeably lower however. Used to have great times here but not a fan of the changes and staff. These annoyances may just seem like petty complaining, but for someone that paid a lot to drive there from another city, it was a poor experience compared to many other excellent times I've had there in the past.

  • Ducks vs. Kings

What a great experience! The venue was wonderful, clean, and easy to navigate. The staff inside was wonderful and the prices were not as high as I expected. The atmosphere was very family-friendly and I enjoyed every minute!

My first pro game. Honestly, it was such a good time. I didn't think I could follow but this sport live is just thrilling. It happened to fall on game 7 of the World Series so people were watching it on the breaks and they showed the fInal score as well. Good night!
