Anaheim Ducks History

What began as a 1992 Disney movie turned into a professional hockey team as the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim played their first official season in the NHL in 1993. With the emergence of Paul Kariya in late 1994, Anaheim had its first bona fide superstar.

In 1996, Teemu Selänne arrived via trade, and alongside Kariya helped lead the franchise to its first playoffs appearance in 1997. The Ducks reached the Stanley Cup Final in 2003, where they lost to the New Jersey Devils. Forever etched in Mighty Ducks lore was the knockout delivered upon Kariya by the Devils' Scott Stevens in game six. Kariya would make a hero's return in that game, emerging from the locker room to score and lead the team to victory. Netminder Jean-Sébastien Giguère won the Conn Smythe Trophy as the MVP of the playoffs, becoming the fifth player to win the trophy as a member of the losing team.

Disney sold the franchise to Henry and Susan Samueli in 2005, and the team dropped the "Mighty" from their moniker. With star players on the roster, including future Hall of Fame defensemen Chris Pronger and Scott Niedermayer, the Ducks finished the 2007 season as Stanley Cup Champions, defeating the Ottawa Senators in five games. With Rob Niedermayer also on the roster, the Niedermayers became the first set of brothers to win the Stanley Cup together since the 1980s.

  • Hockey at Honda Center

    by S. C. on 11/6/19Honda Center - AnaheimRating: 4 out of 5

My team lost. Honda Center needs to give people more space. I sat folded up between two larger people. And oh hey, how am I supposed to enjoy the overpriced nachos I just bought when I can move my arms because I’m folded up between two large people wearing three layers of clothing because 65* is “freezing?” Also, let’s talk food safety. Since when is it permissible to leave bowls of condiments in the open, not under a sneeze guard?!? Honestly, it’s time to step it up.

  • Blackhawks outlast Ducks at Honda Center Thriller.

by PK on 11/6/19Honda Center - AnaheimRating: 5 out of 5

It was a thrilling game, especially if you were a Blackhawk fan, as the Hawks edged the Ducks 3-2 in overtime. The Ducks fought back from a 2-0 deficit, only to see the Blackhawks tally a quick goal in overtime. It was a hard fought and exciting game for the fans.

  • Great game!

by Rosie on 11/4/19Honda Center - AnaheimRating: 5 out of 5

Even though the seats were right at the top, we had the best view of the game. It was a great game. We all had lots of fun.

  • terrible

    by a keeping on 11/4/19Honda Center - AnaheimRating: 1 out of 5

First, the issue with women's purses being tiny, or clear is terrible. There is a constant stream of people walking back to cars, or holding up the lines and arguing with security. The venue should have people in the parking lots telling people about this, and it should be written in big words on the ticket. Second, the music at the arena that is played during stoppages is so loud, that you have to yell at the person sitting next to you to have them hear you. What ever happened to organ music. People come to watch hockey, not listen to the same 20 beginnings of songs each game.

    by E. C. on 10/10/19Honda Center - AnaheimRating: 5 out of 5

Tickets were great only problem were the prices for drinks but my experience was awesome and not only that but then afterwards there was an after party after the win

  • It was Awesome!

by Hockey Grandma on 10/8/19Honda Center - AnaheimRating: 5 out of 5

It was opening night, and i love my Ducks. I dont get to go to too many games because i dont live nearby but I really wanted to see them. My daughter and i came down from the high desert, we came early so we could be on the carpet to see all the players. I am excited for the new season, the new coach and all the youngsters and the returning veterans. It looks promising!

  • Nice Stadium

    by Tmac3t on 10/8/19Honda Center - AnaheimRating: 5 out of 5

It was almost like it was dead getting to the stadium every other Stadium cuz I've been to they have Street parties and all kinds of stuff going on outside it's almost like there was not even a game going on until about 30 minutes before start time that was super odd to me cuz I live in San Jose and we have a street party almost every single time big ordeal when the Sharks play

  • Best Opening Night Ever!

    by B. Viszneki on 10/6/19Honda Center - AnaheimRating: 5 out of 5

Spot on production, awesome laser light show, an even better game. Place was sold out and rockin. Much appreciation to staff and employees for a great opening night!

  • Great seats!

    by K. B. on 10/1/19Honda Center - AnaheimRating: 3 out of 5

Loved the seats and overall experience! However i bought my tickets with a food voucher and they would not accept it or print me out a valid one even though my tickets came with it. Staff at honda center were a 2/5 stars but the help desk at ticketmaster was a solid 5/5

  • Outstanding

    by L. J. on 9/28/19Honda Center - AnaheimRating: 5 out of 5

We love traveling from MN to watch our Ducks play whenever we can! Really liked the new changes this year-seats, the graphics and videos and music that play on Jumbotron during the game...the energy was great!

  • Go Ducks!

    by J. on 9/28/19Honda Center - AnaheimRating: 4 out of 5

Honda Center was fabulous except getting gouged for cans of beer. Ugh!

  • Awesome experience other than food and drink prices

by Vince on 4/6/19Honda Center - AnaheimRating: 4 out of 5

Amazing seats, wonderful staff, entertainment was great value. My family and I have just arrived from the UK to live in the US. We have visited the Ducks twice already and are hooked. Both games have been a wonderful experience and we will definitely be regular visitors. The only negative is the price of food and drink is extortionate and prevents me from purchasing it.

Awesome game and great seats. Had slight difficulty in seeing play in far side of rink, but that didn't really matter.

  • Golden Knights vs Ducks

by Tater on 3/4/19Honda Center - AnaheimRating: 4 out of 5

Got a great seat at almost center ice. Several good beer kiosks...and the Knights won!!!!

  • ADA

by Soup on 3/4/19Honda Center - AnaheimRating: 4 out of 5

The best staff we have encountered at any event. The staff/venue exceeded our expectations when it came to knowledge and helpfulness with wheelchair patrons. Thank you for the wonderful experience.

  • Good game

    by w. on 3/2/19Honda Center - AnaheimRating: 5 out of 5

On seat cup holders suck. Talk about an invitation to spill a drink. Concessions were good. No long lines. Nice. Overall good experience.

  • Rookie win

by Maxwheel on 2/18/19Honda Center - AnaheimRating: 4 out of 5

It was a great, nail-biting game. Glad Boyle got his first win. He really saved the game with his play.

  • Anaheim Ducks vs St. Louis Blues

    by H. P. on 1/26/19Honda Center - AnaheimRating: 5 out of 5

This was my granddaughter ‘s (3) and grandson’s (6) first hockey game. They had a wonderful experience! I purchased tickets in November as a Christmas present for the whole family. I’ve been going to Ducks games for years. The only down part was the Ducks playing poorly and losing the game. The kids got to see Wild Wing and have their picture taken with him. They were very excited about that! As a whole, everything about that night was great. The kids want to go again.
