    Great show, great venue!

by Stella on 10/30/19Broadway Playhouse at Water Tower Place - Chicago

The show was wasn’t, funny, sad and rich with the history of CS Lewis. If you are a fan of his writing and open to a story about how a life can go on quite well for years and suddenly change because of love and an open mind then this show is for you. The venue is small and truly makes you feel as if you are in Jack and Warne’s home. Very well done on every level.

A very simple production which pulled the audience into the story. Wonderfully acted, by a gifted professional.

    Great time!

by CS Fan on 10/30/19Broadway Playhouse at Water Tower Place - Chicago

David Payne was really exceptional. He brought Mr Lewis to life. The time flew by and I could have listened and cried and laughed for another hour.

An enlightening and entertaining evening with CS Lewis

by K. on 10/30/19Broadway Playhouse at Water Tower Place - Chicago

The critics in Chicago panned it- guess it’s not avant garde enough, or maybe because there is no profanity or hate, but more likely it is the media’s disdain for all things Christian. C S Lewis was a brilliant, interesting person. Being at this play is like sitting in his living room for an evening of enlightened and entertaining conversation. The actor is excellent-he captures Lewis and you totally buy in. The audience loved it and were all on their feet at the end.

    Good actor, boring play

by Maureen on 10/30/19Broadway Playhouse at Water Tower Place - Chicago

I would have enjoyed a more in depth profile of the author and his works with a look at his background and upbringing. This was too much money to pay for such a skimpy offering. Also, the audience was annoying by opening cell phone during performance, talking, and rustling of wrappers. I don’t think there is much you can do to police an older adult audience but I thought it was disrespectful and, maybe if they had been more engaged, this might not have happened. When I attended Oslo, everyone was attentive.

    An Evening with C.S. Lewis

by angburman on 10/29/19Broadway Playhouse at Water Tower Place - Chicago

It was an incredible evening learning about C.S. Lewis and his life, his love and his faith. I appreciated the validated parking. An early bite to eat at Mity Nice was a perfect touch to a wonderful time with a good friend. The seating is great at Broadway Playhouse. Not a bad seat in the entire place. The ushers are very nice. I wish there were more events that interested me at this venue.

    A Wonderful Evening

by a critic on 10/29/19Broadway Playhouse at Water Tower Place - Chicago

My wife and I enjoyed the evening with "Jack" and recommend it to everyone. It was like having tea with Mr. Lewis in his parlor, getting to hear his interesting, humorous, and inciteful stories about his life, his famous friends, and his courageous wife.

by L. B. on 10/29/19Broadway Playhouse at Water Tower Place - Chicago

Wonderful performance...wonderful theater...Mr Payne clearly presented the highlights of the life and motivations an author about whom I have wondered, and in a most entertaining way...the venue was intimate, comfortable and accessible

    More for Lewis fans

by Rogerick on 10/28/19Broadway Playhouse at Water Tower Place - Chicago

Very fun presentation of Lewis' autobiography. Lots I didn't know before. You could probably research easily enough and get all the essential information because it's basically an hour and a half straight of him talking about his life, but it's a cool angle to actually have him saying it to you instead of reading about someone you know is already gone on.

    Medium

by C. S. on 10/28/19Broadway Playhouse at Water Tower Place - Chicago

The gentleman was witty and personable. While he mentioned in passing some of Lewis' writings, and I do appreciate the poetry, I thought more of the substance of Lewis' views and the particular themes of his writings should have been part of the play, in that respect i was disappointed, and I had wanted to go to this play for many years. I would think there would be aspects of Great Divorce, Wormwood from Screwtape Letters, from Grief Observed, Mere Christianity, Narnia tales that could have been brought into the monologue explicitly. I enjoyed the mention of Tolkien, but what about other Inklings, like Dorothy Sayers and Charles Williams?

    Wonderful portrayal

by DMC on 10/28/19Broadway Playhouse at Water Tower Place - Chicago

This was a wonderful portrayal of CS Lewis. As someone who's read almost all of his work, I have to say the the actor was spot-on. The show was funny, informative, thought provoking, and touching. I highly recommend it.

    Had Potential But Didn’t Deliver

by TC on 10/28/19Broadway Playhouse at Water Tower Place - Chicago

The show was a cursory review of Lewis’s life. A few quips and anecdotes, but no real insights into the development of his Christian philosophy. Lewis was a very compelling advocate but this show just didn’t capture his essence.

    Wow!

by Joe on 10/26/19Broadway Playhouse at Water Tower Place - Chicago

What can I say other then it was an outstanding performance. At the end he informed the audience that her was under the weather. Could of fooled me. Planning on going back and seeing it a second time.
