Wipe Your Feet
Broadway Playhouse at Water Tower Place - Chicago
You sheepishly and quietly wait in the old professor's living room. Patiently, because you are budding American writer, a humbling title no matter what descriptive word is used before the others. He on the other hand, is a world renown author, with friends who are world renown authors, and tutored at a world renown institution. But none the less, you are there, and CS Lewis enters the room with a bounce and with tea, of course. There is an urge to stand, but his smile permits you to remain comfortably seated with respect. No time for formalities, he has something to say and you want to hear it all, with or without tea. After all, it is November 1963, the Don has lived his life and you have not. The production is realistic enough, you want to ask questions and contribute to the evening, thank god you can't. Enjoy!

Mr. Payne was incredible as C.S. Lewis. We hope he’s back in Chicago—we’ll definitely be in the audience if he is!

VERY well done!!!!
Broadway Playhouse at Water Tower Place - Chicago
Went to the "An Evening with C.S. Lewis" with David Payne. VERY well done!!!! I'm a children's and family entertainer. Frankly, often as an entertainer, I tend to go the theater and critique instead of enjoying the performance. But Mr. Payne was able to really pull me into the front room of C.S. Lewis! Well done, Sir!

Broadway Playhouse at Water Tower Place - Chicago
My husband and I truly enjoyed this performance. Laughed quite a bit, almost teary-eyed at times - all-in-all very enjoyable!

Really enjoyed the performance. Learned a lot about Lewis' life in a thoroughly enjoyable one-man performance. Highly, highly recommend it to any fan of the Chronicles of Narnia!

Illuminating talk with C.S. Lewis
Broadway Playhouse at Water Tower Place - Chicago
In the style of the great 20th century orators, C.S.Lewis relaxes in his oversized Queen Anne chair and expounds on subjects ranging from his life, his contemporaries, his fascinating marriage and his call to Christianity (although he doesn't dwell on the latter). David Payne is an absolute gem as "Jack" (as Lewis was known), and he easily draws you into the world he inhabited with his thoughtful (and often humorous) musings. The evening felt very intimate, truly as though you were sharing a late afternoon in a cozy Oxford home with a brilliant mind. If you're a fan of C.S. Lewis, don't miss it. And if you're not all that familiar with the man and his work, don't miss it either! Mr. Payne makes the "Lewis lesson" most entertaining.
