Amy is an absolutely amazing artist, and there is no question that her band rocked... But, where are the sound engineers any more???? Isn't there ANYONE on her staff/crew who can stand in the back of the room and tell them that the band is WAY too loud, compared to the vocal mics? All of the instruments ATE her amazing vocals. Look... they were very skilled, and a very tight cohesive group, but when the drums, base, keyboards are SO loud that you can't make out a single word that Amy is saying it is a HUGE disappointment. If I was going to see a rock jam session, then i would go see another group. Amy Ray is one of the most amazing lyricists on the planet. If you can't understand her vocals, her words, then it is a colossal waste of time. I had a fine time, but ultimately the ridiculous loudness of the band instruments removed all nuance from the performance, and just left me bored by the end. She did ONE acoustic song - the best song of the night. I could understand exactly what she was saying, and was moved. The rest of the time she was just making sounds, trying to compete with the drummer and guitars/base. Don't get me wrong... I'm not against her edgy rocker direction at all. I love it on the albums. I just keep going to professional concert after concert, and the problem just repeats and repeats. Doesn't matter whether it is a concert of 150 people like this was, or a stadium of 15,000. It seems the sound engineers have all been laid off. Or, maybe they are too close to the band to be objective. But categorically, unequivocally, garbled vocals = failed concert = wasted time and money = less loyalty to an artist on my part.
