AMY HELM IN CONCERT:

Americana rocker Amy Helm is sure to thrill folk, blues, and country fans alike as she breathes new life into these classic styles with her soaring vocals and graceful musicianship in concert. After making a name for herself as a gifted singer and mandolin playing performing alongside her father Levon Helm and in bands like Ollabelle, this songbird is now flooring fans on her own with her backing group The Handsome Strangers. With their versatile mix of acoustic and electric instrumentation, the band keeps things simple on traditional ballads like “Didn’t It Rain” and “Deep Water” before pulling out all the stops on rockers like “Meet Me in the Morning” and “Heat Lightning”. As Amy Helm heads out on tour, ticket buyers will be grooving along as delivers her unique take on classic sounds like country-fried guitar licks, shuffling drum beats, and straightforward folk strumming.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Amy Helm was born with a rich musical heritage -- she's the daughter of Levon Helm (drummer/singer of The Band) and Libby Titus (a respected folk singer). As a singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist Helm won widespread acclaim performing with both her father’s band and the alt-country collective Ollabelle. After her father passed away in 2012 she launched her solo career with her talented backing group The Handsome Strangers. Helm's lifetime of musical expression and experience served her well as a solo act, and the group's mature sound earned them a dedicated following almost instantaneously. Helm made her recording debut in 2015 with the album Didn’t It Rain, winning praise from critics and converting a legion of new fans to her sound. She continues to floor audiences with her stunning vocals and impressive instrumental skills any time she delivers her inventive take on traditional styles in concert.

    Great night in Cohoes

by Futzi on 1/24/17Cohoes Music Hall - Cohoes

Never heard of the opening act Eastbound Jesus. Don't know why, they are a tight band with good songs, three lead vocalists and a ton of positive energy. Amy Helm has really grown as a performer. Engaging stage presence, her love of music comes through as loud and clear as her voice. Wonderful song selection mixing originals and covers, including two Dylan songs, two from Alan Toussaint and one each from Curtis Mayfield, Bruce Springsteen and Dave Mason. Everything from the blues to gospel, hard rocking to acapella four part harmony singing. Low point-the 10 minute drum solo and the hard bench seats.

Great show....Amy honors her late father with her energy and a great band...this is also a fantastic venue. The small crowd was really into the music...was surprised that this fine performer didn't attract a larger turnout.

    Talented Singer with Great Band

by DavidT9 on 4/18/16Amaturo Theater at Broward Center - Ft Lauderdale

Amy Helm is a talented, soulful singer backed by a tremendous group of musicians. Her set at the Broward Center was pretty rocking and combined Rock and Roll, Country, Blues, Gospel and Folk. Her voice is honest and her band could really play.

Now a true star in her own right.

by nbyankee on 4/16/16Ponte Vedra Concert Hall - Ponte Vedra Beach

We have been Amy fans for over ten years. We were fans of her dad for forty years. We watched her grow up but she was not the reason we went. When Levon passed away we stayed away for awhile. I guess I was afraid of where she would go and I didn't want to be disappointed. Well two years ago we went and she was great in Fairfield CT. Then Old Saybrook, CT. Then we brought our friends to St. Augustine, 2 Georgia, 2 CT, 2 Pennsylvania, 2 St. Augustine, 2 New Jersey, 1Germany and 1 No. Carolina. 12 total and there were amazed. These people know music, knew Levon and said she was truly a star in her own right. Her band was great too. Pops would be proud, and I'm sure he is. Awesome show. We had 7 seats in row 2 and 6 in row 3.

    Great show

by Licksdad on 4/15/16Ponte Vedra Concert Hall - Ponte Vedra Beach

My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed the show. It was a mix of rock, blues, bluegrass and gospel. Amy has a strong, nice voice and the band was a talented group of musicians. It was a small crowd - and those that did not buy tickets missed a wonderful night.

Performance was awesome. The layout in the chandelier lobby was not the most optimal but overall the show was great.

Amy Helm & The Handsome Strangers :-)

    by jwmrx on 3/24/14F. M. Kirby Center - Wilkes-Barre

Great show. If Amy Helm plays in your time zone get a ticket and go. Connor Kennedy Band wasn't bad either. If these kids (at least they looked young) play in your time zone go. You won't be sorry. Really enjoyed both bands, great musicians, great show. Two days later and I am still smiling.

A really good and warm show. Amy Helm and band brought down home roots music to the Kirby center. Rock, folk, blues, gospel. It was all put out there for the crowd to savor. All well done and all done well. A fun night for sure.
