About

Amos Lee was born Ryan Anthony Massaro on June 22, 1977 in Philadelphia and graduated an English major from the University of South Carolina. After graduation, he worked as a teacher and bartender as he pursued a career as a singer-songwriter, and scored a record deal from Blue Note Records after his manager submitted his demo. He toured with labelmate Norah Jones and Bob Dylan, and then on his own before recording his self-titled debut album in 2005, showcasing his unique fusion of folk, jazz, and rock, anchored by his sophisticated songwriting and soulful voice. The following year, Lee released his sophomore effort Supply and Demand featuring the single "Shout Out Loud", and put out his third album Last Days at the Lodge in 2008, diversifying his instrumentation and enhancing his neo soul sound. In 2011, his fourth studio album Mission Bell debuted at number one on the Billboard 200, with appearances by Lucinda Williams and Willie Nelson, and featured his hit single "Windows are Rolled Down". In recent years, Lee has captivated tickets owners in concert with Elvis Costello, Paul Simon, Van Morrison, and Adele, and he just released his folky, country-tinged fifth album Mountains Of Sorrow, Rivers Of Song in October 2013, recorded in Nashville with vocal support from Alison Krauss and Patty Griffin.

    No Band Needed

by AZmusicgirl on 10/5/23Chandler Center for the Arts - Chandler

As a fan of Amos Lee since he began and a veteran of 4 concerts, he is as good as ever! Last concert at Mesa Arts Center included a backup band. This concert was magically acoustic with just Amos and two guitars. Personable and affable, he connects the audience to his art through his laid back vibe. His story telling is timeless.

    Uneven experience

    by Zen on 8/12/23

I believe he said the Chateau Ste Michele show was the second on the tour, and it showed. While it was billed as a Chet Baker tribute, most fans didn’t seem to know and it was apparent early on they weren’t getting in the groove. He seemed put off and defensive about this, and while he was joking, chastising the audience for being too mellow and saying, “I may quit music after tonight” was just too negative for the situation. It wasn’t the engaged, happy-go-lucky Amos we all have come to expect. I hope he righted the ship for the rest of the tour. His band is accomplished and pivoted between the styles nicely. And to be fair, he did an excellent job on the Chet Baker songs.

    Such a great show!!!

    by Lillian on 8/8/23

Had a band member do a pre-show warm-up, and he from Bailen) was really good. Smaller venue, but large enough to have a nice energetic crowd. But the music was by far the star. So GOOD!!

    Amazing Experience

    by JC on 8/8/23

Egyptian is always a great venue but Amos Lee would be amazing playing the bathroom at the fairgrounds. What an experience. I brought my daughter and she didn't really know his music. Her jaw dropped at his first note. Amos walked away with a new fan. Such a wonderful mother/daughter night that neither of us will ever forgot. Thank you Amos for inviting us into your world.
