About

As a Swedish death metal band that mainly pens and performs songs about Viking history and lore, it makes absolute sense that their name is in the fictional language of Sindarin (created by J. R. R. Tolkien) and translates into “Mount Doom”—the volcano in Tolkien’s fantasy world of Middle Earth. It’s also fitting that Johan Hegg (vocals), Olavi Mikkonen (guitar), Johan Söderberg (guitar), Ted Lundström (bass) and Fredrik Andersson play über-loud hit songs like “Death In Fire,” “Thousand Years of Oppression,” “Without Fear,” “A Fury Divine” and “Risen From the Sea” with as much speed and vigor as wielded by the almighty hammer of Thor. Legions of death metal fans have been grabbing concert tickets since the early ‘90s to witness the fire and fury of Amon Amarth LIVE on stage, performing music that the band’s website describes as “a compelling fusion of buzzsaw riff work, melodic harmonies and soul-crushing rhythms.” Amon Amarth frequently play at metal festivals around the globe and tour with other top-notch death metal acts like Goatwhore, Enslaved and Skeletonwitch.

Over the course of their career, Amon Amarth have played at venues like Arizona Federal Theatre, and have brought The Fillmore (Philadelphia), The Fillmore (Detroit), The Fillmore (Minneapolis) to capacity.

Best live show in a decade

by lameusername on 4/22/11Showbox at the Market - Seattle

Being rather long in the tooth I have seen my share of metal shows over the years and this one was among the best. Amon Amarth really shines live, that combined with the Showbox being a great “intimate” venue pushed this event over the top. Great band, great music, great crowd, good sound and polite/professional staff made this one of the best nights out in a long time. You will not forgive yourself if you miss these guys next time they come to town, in addition to being talented musicians they are great showmen to boot.

Amon Amarth brings Viking Metal to Seattle!

by rattlhed on 4/22/11Showbox at the Market - Seattle

This was an incredible show! When I first purchased my ticket, there were 3 opening bands scheduled, but at some point along the way the tour became "an evening with Amon Amarth" and the show became just Amon Amarth, no opening act. Fine by me! They started the show playing "Surtur Rising" from front to end. I really wish more bands would do this. I saw Megadeth play Rust in Peace in its entirety last fall and that was amazing as well. Bands should be willing to play all the songs on their latest release!! After Surtur Rising, the band took a 30 minute break then came back out to play for another hour, classic songs off thier older CD's. Such a powerful band with an incredible sound. This is the first time I've seen them live and it was worth the wait. The Showbox was near capacity and I think Seattle gave these guys a good solid turnout. Hopefully they will make the journey over the pond again good and keep Seattle in mind!

    Awesome!!!!

by tattoodevilgod on 4/22/11Showbox at the Market - Seattle

My first Amon Amarth show, and it won't be my last. Singer was very entertaining, singing and between songs. They played a double set and never showed any signs of letting up. I was truly impressed by their stage presence, and the control they had over the crowd was amazing. They enjoy what they are doing and it shows.

    Amon Amarth

Show was awesome. They played 2 sets, no opening bands. Normally I go to concerts casually late. Good thing I didn't this time.

This show was fricken awesome. They played all the songs I was wondering/hoping they'd play, and played them very well, as usual. The crowd was great. Venue was very nice. Definitely one to be remembered.

Bow down to your Viking Warlords!

by thenorsehammer on 4/21/11Wonder Ballroom - Portland

Those crazy swedes did it again. The roaring giant Johan Hegg crushed the crowd with his hammer-like vocal and the chunky riffs and terrific blast beats melted our faces off and smashed our ear drums to dust. They played a double set, which is always a treat, and kept the crowd engaged from start to finish. For someone who sounds like they're about to chop off your head, Johan Hegg sure is a nice guy, getting everyone to clap their hands and sing along. To all those metal heads out there, if you ever, EVER have the slightest chance to make to an Amon Amarth concert, DO IT! They are always fantastic!

    Amazing show

    by Tradgedy12 on 4/21/11Wonder Ballroom - Portland

Absolutely incredibly show... they played the entire Surtur Rising album start to finish for the first set, took a 15 minute break, then came back out for about an hour and a half, playing most of their best songs. After the second set, they came back for an encore of yet another 4 songs. Their energy was amazing - I can't even imagine how Johan is able to keep going so strong for so long...

    Epic Metal Show

    by Lugnut73 on 4/21/11Wonder Ballroom - Portland

Ok, the term "epic" gets thrown around a lot these days. Many times, that which is called "epic" is merely cool or interesting and not very epic at all. The show Amon Amarth put on was truly epic in every sense of the word. They played two full sets and did away with an opening act. For their first set, they played their new album (Sutur Rising) in its entirety. The second set consisted of their older material. Both were amazing! Amon Amath is a fantastic death metal band who put it all out on the line for their fans. It was an epic night...one I will remember for a long, long time.

    Amon Amarth

    by d1rt on 4/21/11Wonder Ballroom - Portland

The show was great. Amon Amarth stirred the blood like no one else. The venue (Wonder Ballroom) needs to get some sound techs that know what they're doing though. Even when they were not playing the lead Viking's mic was distorted and warbly. Other than that I was totally great. But I love this band so I may be biased.

    Happy Birthday!

by CrosbyK on 4/19/11Granada - Lawrence

What a badass show! Two great sets of what we came to see. Amon Amarth giving it all they had. Great crowd who sang along to the songs and was rowdy and loud. The impromptu Happy Birthday sing along was pretty cool. Can't wait 'til they comeback. I hope Amon Amarth makes a fortune and is remembered well.

    Amon Amarth brought forth Ragnarok!

    by Bilskiner76 on 4/19/11Granada - Lawrence

This concert was worthy of the gods themselves! Quite possibly one of the best shows I've been to. The energy between the crowd and the band was second to none. Two complete sets by Amon Amarth, what more could you ask for. The new album in its entirety followed by a set of their greatest hits.Amon Amarth really know how to deliver to the audience. Can't wait to see them again! Hail Odin! Hail Thor!

    Amon Amarth delivers once again!

by werade on 4/18/11Granada - Lawrence

From song one they just dominated the stage and the crowd! Opening with "Twilight of the Thunder God" just set the standard of the evening right there, and they just continued with they brutal viking metal for 2,5 hours, making the crowd feeling like being in Valhalla
