About

AMERICA IN CONCERT:

Iconic folk rockers America have been performing to sold out crowds since the '70s, treating generations of fans to genre classics like “A Horse With No Name” and “Sister Golden Hair."  Considered a top-shelf  touring act, the band thrilled fans with the announcement of a 2014 coast-to-coast U.S. tour of their greatest hits.

FANS WHO BOUGHT TICKETS SAY:

“The concert was exceptional. The band has not missed a lick in 42 years, which is how long it has taken me to finally see my favorite band.”

“They are just as good as when I first saw them in 1976, and I will continue to see them year after year… Their voices never seem to change, and in addition to all of their popular hits, they sang less popular songs from their albums, which I loved.”

“Played all their big hits and then some, with covers of "California Dreamin" by The Mamas and The Papas and "‘Til I Hear It from You" by the Gin Blossoms—a surprise. They sounded excellent from start to finish.”

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Gerry Beckley, Dewey Burnell and Dan Peek were barely out of high school when they first made a splash in the British folk-rock scene as America. Not only did they score an international hit with “A Horse With No Name,” but they took home the 1972 Grammy for Best New Musical Artist. A string of additional hits would follow, including “Ventura Highway,” “Daisy Jane,” “Tin Man” and “Lonely People.” In 2007, the band surprised fans with Here & Now -- their first album release since 1998's Human Nature -- earning praise from critics and kicking-off another successful tour. In 2011, America once again headed into the studio to record Back Pages, a collection of covers including renditions of songs by Bob Dylan, Joni Mitchell, and the Gin Blossoms.

America is better than ever!!! Great show!!!

by Painterlady on 7/15/09Desert Diamond Casino - Tucson

My husband and I were like kids again! All the old songs felt familar and exciting at the same time! What a collective talent!!! America genuinely seems to love what they do and each other. Not only did we enjoy their amazing musical abilities but were touched by the deep respect and admiration they have for each other. They obviously had as much fun or more than we did! Bravo!!!

    America was awesome!

by sobercataz on 7/14/09Desert Diamond Casino - Tucson

The show was extremely high energy and the group really got the audience involved. The visuals presented during "Sandman" brought back many memories and was extremely well done. I took my 29 year old daughter who grew up listening to me playing America albums and she made the comment "those old guys rock!" I agree! I would recommended this concert to all ages!

    Oldies but Goodies

by Gobigredsal on 7/14/09Desert Diamond Casino - Tucson

Great classic songs. I have seen America several times and I do realize they are getting older, but I think it is time to hang it up. Music was great but vocals were disappointing and even painful at times.

    God Bless America

by goinback on 7/14/09Desert Diamond Casino - Tucson

Although the seating at this particular casino was bad to say the least, the concert itself was fabulous. Talk about a trip down memory lane. To follow along with what a fellow reviewer stated earlier, if you just closed your eyes and let the music take you away, it was truly a memorable experience. Personally I won't go back to this casino for an indoor concert. I took along a couple of 20 yr olds and they actually thoroughly enjoyed the music. Keep on keepin' on America! Thanks for the memories! : )

America was great. They played all the oldies as well as several new ones. The venue at Desert Diamond Casino was one of best venues I have been to. Not a bad seat in the house.

    America was great

by robinj on 7/14/09Desert Diamond Casino - Tucson

As a child of the 70s, whose favorite song for most of high school was 'Horse With No Name', this concert brought back a lot of memories. America played all their standards except for 'Muskrat Love', which was fine since that song wasn't one of their best (plus it was done, maybe overdone, by Captain and Tenille). The acoustics in the Desert Diamond concert hall were fine, the crowd was into it, and my wife, our friends who went with us, and I all had a great time. My only complaint was that, at 1 hour and 20 minutes, it was a short concert, plus I don't recall them playing 'To Each His Own', which is one of my personal favorites.

by L84LOTUS on 7/14/09Desert Diamond Casino - Tucson

I was very impressed overall and am glad I saw them again. They are a part of Rock History and "YES", they still have it. Don't miss a chance to see them if they come to your neck of the woods.

America might start lip syncing now

by Viqueh on 7/14/09Desert Diamond Casino - Tucson

Iv'e been a fan of these guys for years. It was the 7th time I've seen them live. I was a bit disappointed in the vocals. It sounded a lot like they had sucked on a helium balloon. These guys are living legends and it's harder to watch them age then it is to watch me.

by qwert12345 on 7/14/09Desert Diamond Casino - Tucson

Purchased the tickets for my fathers birthday. We all had an excellent time. After 40 years of making music, they still know how to put on a show. If you like any of America's songs, you would enjoy this concert.
