About

Amélie captured our hearts in the five-time Oscar®-nominated film. Now she comes to Broadway in a magical new musical starring Phillipa Soo (Hamilton, The Great Comet), directed by Tony Award® winner Pam MacKinnon (Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?), with a book by Pulitzer Prize and Tony nominee Craig Lucas (The Light in the Piazza), music by Daniel Messé and lyrics by Nathan Tysen & Messé. Embark on a mesmerizing journey with shy but inquisitive Amélie as she turns the streets of Montmartre into a world of her own imagining, while secretly orchestrating moments of joy for those around her.

    Such a shame!

by Pfefferstein on 5/13/17Walter Kerr Theatre - New York

I love Phillippa Soo but this show is not a vehicle to showcase her amazing talent. The story is week, dialogue sophomoric, and so poorly cast. There was zero chemistry between the leads and the remaining cast members were unappealing. Such a waste of Phillippa Soo's talents.

    Worth seeing

by Wake2 on 5/13/17Walter Kerr Theatre - New York

Simple plot but performers were right for their role and you left the show with a feeling that you have had an enjoyable evening. Only negative was no real hit song

    Fantastic!

by Bree14 on 5/10/17Walter Kerr Theatre - New York

It's so disappointing that this show wasn't given a fighting chance. Extremely quirky and light hearted. I intially went into the theatre not knowing what to expect, having not read the book or seen the movie, but I was so pleasantly surprised. Phillipa Soo is amazing to watch on stage, I may have missed out seeing her as Eliza Schuyler, but I'm glad that I didn't miss this show. I'm hoping to see it one last time before it closes.

    Amelie

by MediaTwister on 5/10/17Walter Kerr Theatre - New York

Very sweet story, lovingly brought to life, and extremely well-performed musical. Cast was energetic and fully engaged; Phillipa Soo and Adam Chanler-Berat killed! Bravo to all!

    Fun for the Whole Family

by AJBD on 5/10/17Walter Kerr Theatre - New York

We went with 3 generations of family and friends and we all agreed that it was loads of fun. It's quirky and fully entertaining. The singing was fabulous. Another bonus is that the whole ensemble is excellent. Not a single weak link. Enjoy!

    A Gem of a Musical

by Kirksfolly on 5/9/17Walter Kerr Theatre - New York

If you are familiar with the film you will love this sweet little musical - you may be more confused if you aren't already a fan. Sorry it is closing but so glad we got the chance to see it - Phillipa Soo was fabulous - see it if you get a chance!

Tough one and a half hours

by Caroleboo on 5/9/17Walter Kerr Theatre - New York

This play was hard to sit through. The acting was awful, with the exception of the lead female character, who has an angelic voice and was the only highlight of the play. I found the characters to be very campy and there was a clumsy feel to them. Wish I could say good things about this play, but it was a waste of money.

Amelie is pure joy on stage!

by AllyCatt7 on 5/4/17Walter Kerr Theatre - New York

I saw this show in previews and loved it so much that I had to go back in April after it officially opened on Broadway. It was even better after the changes they made from previews! If you've heard Phillipa Soo, you know she's a reason enough to see this show. Seeing her perform live and hearing her sing in person was an unforgettable experience. Not only is she wonderful, but the rest of the company is so talented, fun and vibrant (shout outs to Savvy Crawford in her Broadway debut as young Amelie and Adam Chanler Berat and Randy Blair who are all so insanely talented). The stage is so bright and the music is lovely. The story is inspiring and teaches us all about kindness and the effect that the little things can have on people. It doesn't take much to do something small that can change someone's entire life. This show is a beautiful world of love, imagination, and kindness--would highly recommend! See it before it closes!

Charming, feel good and funny - the show captures the spirit of the movie with a number of surprises. Philippa Soo is a delight to watch, supporting cast members really develop each of their characters, and the staging brings excitement as the photobooth goes bright.

    Great Show!

by shellyandmatt on 5/3/17Walter Kerr Theatre - New York

Loved everything about the show! Such a sweet story with great singing! The theater was the perfect size......we were in the Mezzanine but had a wonderful view. Love seeing shows in smaller more intimate size theaters. I had no idea what the show was about prior to going but glad we bought tickets for my sister for her birthday.

    See something else!

by upfromOrlando on 5/2/17Walter Kerr Theatre - New York

I booked tickets to Amelie mainly because Philippa Soo was in it. She was very good but the role was not particularly demanding. I was bored with the show after about 15 minutes. I came up for a week of theatre and this was the 6th show I saw. I wish I had booked something else as this was over priced fluff that had me checking my watch and wishing it would end.

    Amelie is a delight!

by BroadwayMelody on 5/1/17Walter Kerr Theatre - New York

The show captured the whimsical spirit of the movie--it is utterly charming, droll, and delightful. Pippa Soo is a true star and shines in the leading role. Her co-star, Adam Chanler-Berat, was just as wonderful, and the two had great chemistry. Be forewarned--your cheeks will get sore from smiling and laughing throughout the show.

    Loved Amelie!

by FanGirlaGoGo on 5/1/17Walter Kerr Theatre - New York

Actors all gave terrific performances. All the supporting actors had additional roles in the fantasy scenes, which was especially fun. The songs supported and moved the story forward. A very pleasant experience compared to the (too) many shows where the songs ARE the story. All in all it was a very theatrical experience with the flavor of the film. If you liked the film, go see it. You won't be disaapointed.

If there was an intermission, we would have left

by Jseven on 5/1/17Walter Kerr Theatre - New York

Very disjointed and the singing was not good for the most part. Felt like a college production. I do not think it will be on Broadway too long

    Most Disappointing...

by MrPotter07 on 4/30/17Walter Kerr Theatre - New York

Amelie is one of my all time favorite movies, so I was excited when I found out that it was being turned into a musical. They did not adapt it very well at all. I can't imagine, having not seen the movie, that I would have any idea what was going on at all. The director did a valiant job trying to inject energy into that boring score, but to no avail. Sad... :(

    Missed opportunities

by JennKenn2 on 4/29/17Walter Kerr Theatre - New York

My family and I were looking forward to seeing "Amelie"! We were excited to see Phillipa Soo perform, which was a wonderful experience. However, she didn't have a lot to work with in terms of the music. I can't remember a single song or melody from the show (saw it two days ago), and I kept falling asleep. There was no French instrumentation or sound to the orchestrations, and even the actors had no French accents whatsoever. At one point the whole cast sang "Emily" instead of "Amelie". There was no 11;00 number, the story was incohesive, and the show could have been so much better with a little more nod towards its French origins- or change the show and have it set in the US. But one or the other please.
