Ambrosia on Tour

Ambrosia, an American rock band formed in Los Angeles in 1970, is back in action. Their 2022 tour, ambrosialive, is bringing together a long-running and loyal audience. The band boasts five Top 40 hit singles released between the years of 1975 and 1980. The singles include "Holdin' on to Yesterday," "You're the Only Woman (You & I)," "Biggest Part of Me," and "How Much I Feel." The 2022 tour includes all members of the original band -- bassist/vocalist Joe Puerta, drummer/vocalist Burleigh Drummond and keyboardist/vocalist Christopher North -- plus guitarist/vocalist Doug Jackson (guitar and vocals), Ken Stacey (vocals) and Mary Harris (keyboards and vocals.) The band has been playing together for 25 years. Seeing Ambrosia live is a nostalgic and energizing experience. The tour will span the United States over the course of the year.

Ambrosia Live in Concert

Ambrosia was named after the band's desire to be eclectic in style, encompassing all shades, textures, colors, and styles. The band was originally formed as a quartet. Ambrosia soared to the top of the mainstream music charts despite being progressive in nature. Being from Southern California, the band was inspired by artists such as The Beach Boys and The Beatles. Ambrosia got their start in 1971 when a friend of the band who was running sound for the Hollywood Bowl invited the band to play onstage to test the sound system. Gordon Perry, the head engineer, invited them to attend performances with the Los Angeles Philharmonic. The conductor chose to feature Ambrosia as part of the "All American Dream Concert." After landing a deal with 20th Century Fox Records, the band became an American legend. Today, the band still maintains a loyal and enthusiastic following. Ambrosia live in concert in 2022 certainly stands to be a reunion and celebration of epic proportions.

  • EXCELLENT

by KAT on 9/2/24Hard Rock Live - BiloxiRating: 5 out of 5

The musicians were as good as ever and the sound was so clear. The show was to short. We missed the first act and we were about 30 minutes late by the time we got in the doors, Ambrosia was already on stage. That was the only negative about the show. Maybe next tour they can come closer to the New Orleans area so I don't have to deal with bad traffic and poor hotel selections. The group still has enormous talent and I will go to see them again !!!

  • Wish it had been what I expected.

by PopPop on 9/2/24Hard Rock Live - BiloxiRating: 3 out of 5

I’ve been a fan of the original 4 since the first album. Saw them live at Ebbets Field in Denver in the early 70s. Joe Puerta and Burleigh Drummond were spot on and the guitarist Doig Jackson were tight together. Mary Harris’s playing was very good as well. Unfortunately her vocal parts were not always.balanced as they could have been. Bad mix, bass too loud (as usual) and most vocals not properly mixed. Burleigh Drummond did mention that their soundman wasn’t there. So they got the standard, R&R mix mentioned above. Missing Christopher North and David Cutler Lewis the former keyboardists, the lead vocalist/ keyboardist Kipp Lennon has some real pipes but his ad lib keyboard solos and not copping the signature parts on keys were disappointing.

  • More Al Stewart

by More Al Stewart on 9/2/24Hard Rock Live - BiloxiRating: 4 out of 5

Ambrosia was amazing. Great sound and notable tunes. Great seats and venue. However, need more Al Stewart. Only three songs from him. Would like to see entire set with him and the Empty Pockets. Listening to those around me , every one was hoping for more AL!

  • Great performance

by Woody on 9/2/24Hard Rock Live - BiloxiRating: 5 out of 5

The concert opened with Al Stewart fronting Ambrosia. "Time Passages,""On the Border"and "Year of the Cat."Mary Harris was flawless with the piano opening of the latter. Then, Ambrosia took point, performing all their chart hits and a few lesser-known songs. The members took turns singing lead, with bassist and original member Joe Puerta Jr. handling more. As can be expected with pop/rock music, the songs sounded almost like the recordings. The main exceptions being the human voices vary, and the instrumental solos took a life of their own. The group even threw in a few surprises. "Magical Mystery Tour,"which Ambrosia recorded for the soundtrack of an obscure movie. The film was a documentary about World War II, with the soundtrack inviting several artists to cover Beatles' songs. Another was "Love Is Alive,"which Puerta said Ambrosia performed with Gary Wright - the last time he performed it before his death in 2023. And, the group met an up-and-coming artist whom they invited to join their band. That didn't happen, but Puerta is listed as backing vocalist and bassist for that artist's first hit, "The Way It Is,"by Bruce Hornsby and the Range. Ambrosia covered it, adding to an already fabulous program.

by Dub on 9/2/24Hard Rock Live - BiloxiRating: 4 out of 5

Not just an old band with a name. The musicianship and vocal harmonies were great. These guys and gal can play. Played a one hour set, probably should stay on the stage a little longer.

  • I thought Al Stewart was performing

by Jack on 9/2/24Hard Rock Live - BiloxiRating: 2 out of 5

When Al Stewart came out I started worried- he played 3 songs with Ambrosia —then Ambrosia stayed on and played - they were ok - but other than a couple of “hits” mostly a cover band - I guess I not read tix or something Saw Al Stewart played the next night in Metairie with “full set” and assume his band - he not play very long however- even his live album was hour seventeen minutes I should have bought tix Saturday- my bad

  • Lovely evening back in time

by Nicki on 7/23/24The Showroom at Turning Stone Resort Casino - VeronaRating: 4 out of 5

Loved the Turning Stone Showroom. Ambrosia started right at 8pm which was nice. We were amazed how strong the voices of the whole Group were, given their age. They sang a nice variety of songs including a Beatles Song, Magical Mystery Tour which they explained their version was for a Beatles movie documentary. However, I was a little disappointed that they only did two of their best known, greatest hits:How Much I Feel (was great!) and Your the Only Woman, also sung as strong as the recording. So, overall, thoroughly enjoyed what we heard, but would have been more a more complete show with more of the Classics. I still recommend going.

  • Nostalgic

  • Concert was good

by Chief on 7/22/24The Showroom at Turning Stone Resort Casino - VeronaRating: 4 out of 5

The concert was good but I don't think they sang all of their big songs. Threw in a couple of different ones by different artists.

  • Good concert

by Leesa on 7/22/24The Showroom at Turning Stone Resort Casino - VeronaRating: 3 out of 5

Good concert sang good songs. But something was up with his microphone it was turned up way to loud it just sounded like he was screaming the whole night. Nobody else in the band just the lead singer I don’t know someone should have fixed that. The lady next to me had to cover her ears a lot. That was a Turning Stone Casino problem I feel like

  • Historical Show in the Making

by Dani on 6/19/24Hard Rock Live Sacramento - WheatlandRating: 5 out of 5

Such a wonderful show at The Hard Rock Casino in Sacramento. All these legendary musicians on one stage playing together, Ambrosia with guests Al Stewart, John Ford Coley and Peter Becket the voice of Player who also played a few years with The Little River Band. Fantastic set list with the most wonderful photography video playing behind the band. Showcasing each of the musicians from early childhood, their first bands to chart topping days, awards and some current behind the scenes photos. The crowd was definitely loving the show and the crowd pleaser hits that were played that everyone still remembers all the words to. Only one problem…………… after the last song of the night was played left us all wanting to hear more! Thank you Ambrosia for an unforgettable night of musical history ❤️

  • Memories...

by Ross on 6/11/24Hard Rock Live Sacramento - WheatlandRating: 5 out of 5

For one night we were transported back to the late 70s and early 80s. Al Stewart kicked off the night with four hits ending with Year of the Cat. He received a standing ovation because he is almost 80 now and he was still performing at a fairly high level for his age. John Ford Coley sang his hits but you definitely noticed England Dan (passed away) was the primary voice and missing but he John a super nice guy and asked us to participate with him. It was fun. Joe Puerta from Ambrosia played the guitar the entire concert and shared vocals with a younger singer Kipp Lennon. Kipp was every bit as good as the original singer. The new saxophone player was phenomenal and was the highlight of the night. Peter Beckett from Player was the quintessential rock star even now. He sang all of Player's hits and then wrapped up the night with Baby Come Back. What a night of great memories and sing a longs with the audience.

  • AMAZING

This is one of the best shows this year. Every one of these entertainers' voices were amazing. They were absolutely amazing. It was like you were listening to the record back in the day.
