About

Provocative, irreverent, controversial and wildly creative, Amanda Palmer is a fearless singer, songwriter, playwright, blogger and an audaciously expressive pianist who simultaneously embraces – and explodes – traditional frameworks of music, theater and art.

Amanda first came to prominence as one half of the internationally acclaimed punk cabaret duo The Dresden Dolls. In 2008, she released her debut solo album, Who Killed Amanda Palmer, produced by Ben Folds and accompanied by a fine art photography book featuring text by esteemed author Neil Gaiman (who Palmer has since married). After parting ways with her record label in 2010, she self-released two EPs: Amanda Palmer Performs The Popular Hits of Radiohead On Her Magical Ukelele and Amanda Palmer Goes Down Under, along with a musical theater-esque Evelyn Evelyn album and tour with Jason Webley.

Amanda is widely known as “The Social Media Queen of Rock-N-Roll” for her constant and disarmingly intimate engagement with her fans via her blog, Tumblr, and Twitter (800,000+ followers), and has been at the vanguard of using both “direct to fan” and “pay what you want” (patronage) business models to build and run her business. In May of 2012 she made international news when she raised nearly $1.2 million pre-selling her new album, Theatre is Evil, along with related merchandise and “experiences” via Kickstarter. Theatre is Evil went on to debut in the “Billboard Top 10” when it was released on Sept. 11, 2012, and has been released in over 20 countries on her own label, 8ft records.

Amanda was invited to present a “TED Talk” at TED’s 2013 Conference. To date her Talk, “The Art of Asking”, has been viewed more than 8 million times worldwide. 2013 also saw the release of “An Evening with Neil Gaiman & Amanda Palmer”- a 3 CD collection of tracks culled from a live tour with her husband and best-selling author Neil Gaiman.

Following upon the success of her TED Talk- Amanda expanded her philosophy into a book. The Art of Asking was released worldwide in November of 2014 and became a New York Times Best Seller. In support of the book, Amanda is currently touring solo for the first time since 2011, hitting stages with a mix of rocking keyboard originals, ukulele ballads, and readings from The Art of Asking.

Amanda F Palmer in yet another role...

by EdInSaugus on 12/15/10Berklee Performance Center - Boston

The first half of the show had Amanda on a concert grand (instead of her Kurt Weil) playing some new songs from soon to be released CD -- excellent as usual. The second half was young Tristan Allen playing the piano, showing a strong influence of Phillip Glass -- also excellent. The third half of the show had Amanda and Tristan answering questions from the audience, showing off Amanda in her new role of Mentor with some really good questions and some really good answers, followed by a duet created and played by the two of them on that concert grand, everybody loved it.

    This show was absolutely amazing!

by grrargh on 5/21/10McMenamins Crystal Ballroom - Portland

The Evelyn and Evelyn (EE) show would be more than spectacular but then to have both Jason Webley and Amanda Palmer in the same show is truly amazing. For the EE set it was a sit down event and I was a little concerned knowing that both Amanda and Jason were high energy boot stomping high kicking sweaty fun. But the girls were a little shy and the atmosphere lent itself to chairs; fortunately when Jason came on he said something like 'up to this point the show has been a sit down affair but if you could all get up and participate...' and we were happy to oblige. Jason and Amanda in separate sets Rocked the house in with their different artistic style, but when they were together it was sublime. This show was absolutely amazing! I WANT MORE! I may even try to fly somewhere to catch the last stop of the tour as well... I envy all who have tickets and are local.

    Stunning, as always.

by WerewolfKing on 12/15/09The Social - Orlando

Amanda Palmer gave another stunningly memorable show. Even though the tiny venue was packed, she did not have any trouble making everyone feel comfortable. She gave the impression that we were in her living room, enjoying an intimate performance. She even got Neil Gaiman on stage to read a story out of their book, "Who Killed Amanda Palmer." Needless to say, her performance was one-of-a-kind and very special. If you have not seen her play live, you need to fix that.

    Amanda is a force...

by AFPisamazing on 12/14/09The Social - Orlando

Amanda has a way of breaking every possible barrier between the stage and the audience without losing control. It was beautiful, interactive, one of the best shows of my life. Neil was there and read one of his stories. She stayed afterward to take photos with everyone present. I was a fan before and now I'm even more in love.

    Amanda Palmer was amazing!

    by wolfwind20 on 12/14/09The Social - Orlando

Her energy was over the top whether she was playing ukulele on top of the bar or pounding on the piano. She played a broad selection of songs including fan requests. Another cool part of the show was the segment ask Amanda where she answered questions fan had written down. She was really down to earth and fun.

    Amanda Rocks!

by lmashell on 11/19/09Music Hall of Williamsburg - Brooklyn

You simply can't put Amanda Palmer in a box - My friends asked me to describe her show with Nervous Caberet and I couldn't put it in words. Her words for her act - Punk Caberet- are the best synopsis. A bit of jazz, a lot of rock, punk, and craziness. Don't miss an opportunity to see this show.

by Jpenn1 on 11/16/09Music Hall of Williamsburg - Brooklyn

Being an avid Dresden Dolls fan for years, it has consistently been a great experience watching Amanda perform in such intimate venues. Her talent, musicianship, and humor are always a welcomed experience. It was truly amazing seeing her play again. She is a one of the rarest musical talents and an incredible artist.

    Amanda is always outstanding

by Anonymous on 11/16/09Music Hall of Williamsburg - Brooklyn

The Music Hall of Williamsburg is an interesting venue. Instead of letting concert goers directly into the theater they first funnel you downstairs to a bar and then upstairs to a second waiting area. It makes for a bit of a free for all when it comes to getting a spot at the front of the hall but I guess it has its charm. That said, Amanda rocked. Hard. The Nervous Cabaret marched her in through the crowd and we helped her onstage. I never get tired of hearing Amanda's voice live. It is so powerful and dynamic. Amanda never lets her shows get boring either. There was an "ask Amanda" session and a live art auction. If you've never seen Amanda Palmer live, do. It's as simple as that.

by Berthablue on 11/15/09Music Hall of Williamsburg - Brooklyn

Nothing but awesomeness! AFP was the best, as usual, bringing a bunch of awesometastic people (Nervous Cabaret, Skip Shirey, Franz Nicolay) with her! Venue rocked as well, perfectly climate controlled and the staff were so nice! Yay!
